In interschool soccer I played keeper and for the whole season I had only let 2 goals in. We had a back up keeper and at the final my coach decided to put him in when I left through one of my 2 goals. Tommy (the backup) let in 6 goals and we lost 7 - 2 against Padbury I think it was.

This was disappointing because it's the only final game I'd ever been in while playing soccer.

I am a sporting disappointment

Of my litany of sporting disappointments, the biggest was this one.

I was a fullback in a ****poor soccer side (St. Andrew's Primary) that got regularly demolished - season low of 18-0. Got sick and missed one week, in which we actually scored a goal (one of two or three for the year) and drew the match. Only positive result we had that year.

My first and last season (six months) with the year seven Basketball team. I was so crap! i had no idea what 'box out' meant and i spent all the time on the bench!
i thought it was a good idea at the time.

Once, as a kid, at a friend's birthday party, I was determined to win the prize for "Simon Says".

It got down to 3 kids - myself and 2 girls. We were locked together for five minutes, in a battle of concentration.

The host's mother, who was running the game, shot off these instructions in rapid-fire succession:
Simon says hands on head.
Simon says hands down.
Simon says hands on head.
Simon says hands down.
Simon says hands on head.
Simon says hands down.
Step forward.

I, slowly and deliberately, took a great step forward.

As my foot touched the floor I was met with squeals, howls and laughter from all the other people in the room - the other remaining contestants, the mother, and all the kids who had been eliminated.

I was shattered. I ran off into the lounge room and had a bit of a cry. It was the longest I'd ever lasted at "Simon Says", and yet it wasn't good enough.

Little wonder I have avoided much competitive sport since then

My youngest brother lost 2 basketball preliminary finals in overtime, one by a point, and a Grandfinal in overtime
