Freo only have 10 players over 26 on their list,

Ryan - Logue - Hughes
Chapman - Pearce - Young
Henry - Brayshaw - Aish
Sturt - Cox - Banfield
Switkowski - Treacy - Schultz

Darcy - Cerra - Serong

Frederick - Acres - Wilson - Meek

As you can see the defence and midfield are well set but the forward line is dire. Cox is a defender who does not want to play forward and Sturt is the only high pick and he is permanently injured. The rest are low draft pick punts. A textbook example of lousy list management.

Updated with Cerra gone, also Wilson is 28. This assumes we land Clark and take picks 6 and 8 into the draft (and draft one of the 2-3 highly rated WA key position players in the draft).

Ryan - Pearce - Logue
Young - Cox - Chapman
Clark - Brodie - Aish
Switkowski - Treacy - Frederick
Schultz - Pick 6/8 - Sturt

Darcy - Brayshaw - Serong

Meek - Henry - Walker - Pick 6/8

Emergency: Banfield, Acres, Valente, Hughes, O’Driscoll

- 13 x first round picks, including nine top 10 picks.

- Darcy, Brayshaw and Serong probably the best young clearance combination in the comp (23, 21, 20 respectively). The reason why most Freo fans sad, but not gutted Cerra has left.

- And probably the best young back six in the comp as well (shame Pearce, Cox and Young have missed more games than they’ve played in last three years).

- The less said about the forward line the better!!!

To summarise, from the Grand Final team we'd lose:

Gawn, Viney, Brown, May.

Reckon we'd have still won? A decent chance IMO...

McDonald as well.

Still a very good team although those 4 you mentioned are very important.

5 years time, Jackson takes over as the number one ruck, Petty becomes the number one key defender, Sparrow moves into Viney’s role. Think Melbourne just need to find a long term Key forward, not sure Weideman is the guy but I’m sure he’s hungry to prove that he is.

Our 26 and under side is basically our normal best 22 minus Heppell / Shiel / Tippa (28), Stewart and Smith (27)

The highlighted ones are the players that will be taking us forward. Not writing the other off, but I would not be surprised to see others race past them.

The rebuild is going nicely.

Here's what I think the Saints would look like. Pretty close to our current best 22.
Doesn't look to bad but we look a bit tight for genuine talls down either end of the ground with only King, Marshall, Howard, Joyce and Heath being over 195cm on our list. Still happy with our young talent though.

FB: Paton Howard Wilkie
HB: Sinclair Highmore Coffield
C: McKenzie Jones Billings
R: Marshall Steele Clark
HF: Higgins Battle Gresham
FF: Butler King Sharman

Int: Byrnes Bytel Connolly Joyce

Lots to like about the list that North is putting together

Looks good, but a large portion of those players are 24 - 26. Fast forward 2 years and the 26 and under side will look pretty bare.
Hopefully for Saints fans you can start to crack the top 4 in the next year or two.

We can't. We only have 21 currently on the list 26 or under, after trading out Kreuger and delisting Jarvis, Okunbor and Taherny.

We are also likely to lose Clark and could delist Constable and Brownless still, so could be struggling to field a starting 18 26 and under side before the draft. With Ceglar, we can do a 26 and over best 22.

That's absolutely terrifying.

Now look at the ages of the players Grand final day 2007 for some very sobering reading.

26 and under, so born in 1995 or later?

Suns team

B: Budarick - Graham - Bowes
HB: Powell - Ballard - Markov
C: Lukosius - Miller - Weller
HF: Holman - Corbett - Ainsworth
F: Chol - King - Rankine

R: Moyle - Anderson - Rowell
Int: Flanders - Fiorini - Jeffrey - Sharp

E: Hollands, Macpherson, Davies, Burgess, Farrar, Rosas

I reckon this team could go ok.

Midfield young, but emerging with an established leader in Miller. Good mix of in and out with Rowell/Fiorini/Miller - Anderson- Weller/Sharp. Few players that can run through there with Flanders, Ainsworth too.

Need to see more of Moyle in the ruck at VFL level, but looked ok in his short time with us.

Forward line should be able to kick goals, especially with Jeffrey an x-factor on the bench.

Defenders can intercept (Ballard, Powell) and run (Budarick, Markov, Powell) so should give us drive, but clearly need to more KPD depth.

Hollands emergency, purely as he hasn't played an AFL game yet but imagine he'll be in this team (and the legit senior team) very shortly.

To summarise, from the Grand Final team we'd lose:

Gawn, Viney, Brown, May.

Reckon we'd have still won? A decent chance IMO...
That’s pretty scary for the rest of us.

for Freo we’d lose Fyfe, Mundy, Tabs and Walters from our best 22 who are all tough to replace at the moment.

and Colyer who’s borderline and therefore less of a loss.

oh and Lobb too, another loss from an already very week forward line.

B: Cole Barrass Nelson
HB: Rotham Edwards Witherden
C: Waterman Duggan Petruccelle
HF: Cameron Brander Langdon
F: Ryan Allen Rioli*
Foll: Williams, Kelly, Sheed

IC: O'Neill Foley Ainsworth Jones

That's every player 26 or under on our list except Ben Johnson and Callum Jamieson who have yet to debut.

Kelly, Sheed, Barrass, Ryan, Duggan are pretty established at 24-26 as senior players, Allen looks like he could potentially be a star, the rest the jury still out to some degree. And Rioli is still on list even though he may never play again and no one seems to know anything.

B: Cole Barrass Nelson
HB: Rotham H Edwards Witherden
C: Waterman Duggan Petruccelle
HF: Jones Brander Langdon
F: Ryan Allen Rioli
Foll: Williams, Sheed, West

IC: O'Neill Foley L Edwards SPS

Ainsworth and Cameron gone, Kelly 27, SPS, West and Luke Edwards in.

Overall still a fairly unremarkable side. I have faith that we'll have always have dependable talls in the back half, but the midfield leaves a lot to be desired.

My grandma kicking the bucket is on par with Langdon’s kicking of the footy, sad and with no real hope of improvement.

The only list Langers should be on is an orbituary of past footballers.

Out of interest, why do you have Carroll who is yet to debut on field ahead of someone like cuningham who has shown a bit.

and do you think you could actually play de koning and pittonet onfield together successfully?
