Your club's best 3 consecutive AFL National draft picks

Have a feeling Rayner, Bailey and Starcevich will go down as one of the best drafting periods ever for Brisbane.

Picks 1,15,18

Remember also we traded in Charlie Cameron with pick 12 that year. Not too shabby

Almost but not quite:
- 08: S Hill, Ballantyne, Suban (not a fan of Subes, but he did play 150 games)
- 14: Weller, Blakely, Langdon (really looked good for a couple of years, but we've traded out Weller and Langdon - and Blakely isn't wanted. Real shame)

Could be awesome:
- 19: Young, Serong, Henry (no doubt Young and Serong will be stars - here's hoping Henry comes through)

Will take some beating because we quite possibly nailed four in a row (assuming the first three deliver on the potential they showed this year):
- 16: Logue, Darcy, Cox, Ryan (We also took Duman with our next pick - Pick 3 in the Rookie Draft - and he will likely play 100+ games as well.)

Hasleby, Pavlich, Leigh Brown 807 games between them

2005 - Thomas, Pendlebury, Danny Stanley - (failed third pick)
2014 - De Goey, Moore, Maynard - although Moore was a F/S
2000 - Didak, Jason Cloke, Lonie - 1 superstar and a couple of decent players at their best
2006 - Ben Reid, Nathan Brown, Dawes, Brad Dick, Goldsack - thats 4 picks nailed in one draft, Dick had his moments
2008 - Sidebottom, Beams, Blight (failed 3rd pick)

2014 is probably the best overall, but 2005-06 was the most important drafting period we have had in ages - 6 premiership players

Even better one for us...

1999:
31 - Paul Chapman
38 - Cameron Ling
47 - Corey Enright

Not high picks either. Imagine that.
can't go past those 3, only Franklin Roughhead Lewis is in the same ballpark and they were all in the top 7

GWS Giants: (2019)

Pick 4- Lachie Ash
Pick 10- Tom Green
Pick 51- Jake Riccardi

I know these guys have only just crested a combined twenty Games between them, but they are all technically still there which deserves a special shout out.

Ryan/Brayshaw/Cerra as a trio is pretty handy even if they weren’t in the same draft.

1997

13 Callum Chambers
28 Rowan Jones
34 Andrew Wililams

Whipping boy trifecta right there.

Does 1989 count?

92 Brett Heady
112 Ashley McIntosh
Post draft: Dean Kemp

2. O’Rourke
3. Plowman
12. Jacksch

Cheers sos.
Our recruiting has improved exponentially since his departure.
18. Brodie Grundy (Coll)

Still looking for a ruck at the Giants, Corr who went 14 is gone as well now. I have heard rumors that it was never going to happen (Grundy).

Most clubs ignored Grundy. And the prevailing mindset was bring in mature rucks.
Also, word was Grundy said he didn’t want to go to Giants.
We’ve got our ruck now.

The only three straight that I’d say are all good players are:

Nathan Broad (pick 67 2015)
Shai Bolton (pick 29 2016)
Jack Graham (pick 53 2016)

Richmond have a few very good back to back picks but the third player is a lot weaker

Travis Casserly (pick 42 2006)
Jack Riewoldt (pick 13 2006)
Shane Edwards (pick 26 2006)
Dan Connors (pick 58 2006)

Andrew Collins (pick 71 2006)
Trent Cotchin (pick 2 2007)
Alex Rance (pick 18 2007)
Dean Putt (pick 51 2007)

If they hadn’t traded pick 19 in 2007 for Jordan McMahon, and drafted Callan Ward or Scott Selwood instead, then that 2007 trio would've been up there
i raise you:
jayden short (pick 11 2014 rookie)
jason castagna (pick 29 2014 rookie)
kane lambert (pick 46 2014 rookie)
then after messing up by taking arnot at 61
ivan soldo (pick 68 2014 rookie)

just counting medals thats unlikely to be beaten from a rookie draft perspective

Ryan/Brayshaw/Cerra as a trio is pretty handy even if they weren’t in the same draft.

Very true - that run of six picks over two drafts (Logue, Darcy, Cox, Ryan, Brayshaw, Cerra - ignoring the rookie draft) has given us the spine of our backs and midfield for the next 10 years. Shame our only key forward in the last five years (Dixon) has just been delisted!!

Almost but not quite:
- 08: S Hill, Ballantyne, Suban (not a fan of Subes, but he did play 150 games)

The 2008 draft for Freo goes a little further than the first three. Hill, Ballantyne, Suban, Clarke and Walters were five consecutive picks in that draft. They all played in the 2013 Grand Final five years later and played 100+ games for the club.

2006 we got Boak, Gray, Westhoff
These weren't consecutive picks though. Looking at that year, it certainly looked like one of Port's better years. You could have a case for:

Pick no.

600 games in total for these 3.

Also, I didn't realise Robbie Gray was that tall, 183cm!

I would argue that 2008 was better than 2009, though 2 of those players were not at the club for very long, one is a top player and club captain at another club, and the other has had a serviceable career.

Pick 10 - Phil Davis
Pick 28 - Shaun McKernan
Pick 44 - Rory Sloane

Also, although not consecutive picks, 2007 was better overall than either of them.

2007 netted us Dangerfield, Otten and Walker.
I actually considered Davis-McKernan-Sloane combo as well, but decided on Talia-Gunston-Shaw, mainly because of Gunston's multiple premierships and a solid Finals player.

Also, this isn't about which player that's played the most for the club, but just any pick of an ace player, regardless of whether they stayed at one club, or moving to other clubs.

Outside of the well documented ‘99 and ‘01 picks for the Cats, 2016 netted Parfitt at 26, Stewart at 40 and Esava at 43. O’Connor was also taken as a Category B rookie in 2016. Encouraging signs.

Had high hopes for Narkle (pick 60 of 2016 draft) but it seems he’ll be lucky to survive list trimmings with reduced numbers.

Watch out for Dees 2019 draft in the future
3 Jackson
12 Pickett
32 Rivers
All look like stars, Jackson could be one of the best rucks ever.

2015: Carlton

Pick 1- Jacob Weitering
Pick 10- Harry McKay
Pick 12- Charlie Curnow
Pick 23- David Cunningham
Pick 53- Jack Silvagni

Like a game of 5 Card stud and a Cunningham "Happy Days", very spinal for five players taken.

2014
Pick 19 - blaine Boekhurst
Pick 28 - Dillon Viojo Rainbow
Pick 60 - Clem Smith
Pick 63 - Jayden Foster

Total of 32 games of AFL footy, and zero of any influence.

2008
#1 - Jack Watts
#17 - Sam Blease
#19 - James Strauss

2009
#1 - Tom Scully
#2 - Jack Trengove
#11 Jordan Gysberts

Come at me bro
