Pretty simple exercise and one I thought would be a bit of fun.

Just post your favourite 22 from the years you've been consciously watching our great club. Not your best, just your favourite, picking by position (mine will be far from the best I'm sure, few rogue names)! No need to state why (can if you want though!), just say how long you've been watching at the top and post your side!

1994 - today

B: Manton Silvagni DeIulio
HB: Simpson Sexton Dean
C: Kouta Ratten Hanna
HF: Clape Sticks Lance
F: Pearce Fevola Betts
R: Kruezer Cripps F.Brown
INT: Rice Hulme Hogg S.O'hAilphin

(FAST RISING: Doch Charlie Williamson)

DISCLAIMER: Was in love with Hamill as a kid but he was the first footballer to properly break my heart so he can GAGF

EDIT: TBH upon looking at it this side knocks over most flag sides, and yes, I'm on the cans.

Watching 1983-today.

I’m a bit older than the posters who have responded so far, so here goes:

Hickmott SOS Christou
Meldrum Dean McKay
Bradley Diesel Brown
Kouta Sticks Dominator
Betts Fev Rice
Madden Brown Naley

Pearce Bernie Evans Murphy Ratten

Cripps unlucky to miss out, as was Adrian Whitehead and Michael Sexton. I only caught the last couple of seasons of Bruce Doull, who should have made it otherwise. I’d have loved to have seen Marc Murphy play with some of these blokes - he’d have looked a much better footballer (and I still think he does pretty well). Tommy Alvin was another good player who missed, and I’d have dearly liked to fit in Scotland. Perhaps he could replace Bernie Evans, but he was always a fave of mine. Simmo deserves a spot too.

A tough exercise! And, as has been said above, hopefully even tougher in 2-3 years’ time!

What an ask, some of us have been around for a lot of years. Favourite, not necessarily best or super balanced
Harmes - Southby - D.McKay
Doull - S.Silvagni - Hunter
Glascott - Williams - Bradley
Jesaulenko - Kernahan - Johnston
Ashman - Koutafides - Bosustow
Madden - Cripps - Judd
Crosswell, Walker, Nicholls, C.Curnow

Unlucky
Sorry Paul Meldrum forgot 1AW - Edit
Kreuzer, Jackson, Keogh, Sheldon, J.Buckley, Betts, Fitzpatrick, P.Jones, Ratten, Christou, Dean, Robertson, Crane, Gallagher,
English, Goold, A.McKay, Fevola, M.Murphy........expecting to add Docherty, Dow, SPS, Weitering soon.
May be one or two from the lean years I have overlooked.

This is a great concept.

I've been watching avidly since the late 80s.

FB: Christou / SOS / Franchina
HB: Simmo / Dean / The Vet
C: Bradley / Cripps / Ratts
HF: Lappin / Sticks / Walker
FF: Eddie / Fev / Jeffy
R: Krooz / Judd / Kouta
IC: Madden / Wiggins / Army / Whitnall

Unlucky: Murphy / Rhys-Jones / Mad Dog / Jamo / Alvin / Hanna / O'hAilpin / Manton / Spalding / Scotland / Campo and so many more
Upcoming: Doch / Charlie / Weiters / SPS / Fisher
  • I am a sucker for an underdog or a cult figure; the weird ones, the ones that are all guts but no talent, the ones that are a little nuts.
  • These are often my 'favourite' players even though they are far from the best. Someone like Murphy sh!ts all over my bench (ex-Madden). He's obviously 100x the footballer Wiggo/Army were, but the other guys are the ones I used to get a kick out of more when they (much more rarely) had an awesome game.....

Watching as a kid in the 1970's when Jezza and Doull became my favourite players.

HB Christou Doull Hunter
C Koutoufides Ratten Hanna
HF Keogh Kernahan Bosustow
F Pearce Jesaulenko Betts
R Madden Johnston Ashman

1965 onwards and what I would like to see:

B: English Silvagni Dean

C: Glascott Williams Bradley
HF: Jezza Kernahan Johnston
F: Jackson Ditchburn Bosustow
Foll: Nicholls Kouta Ashman
Int: D.McKay Ratten Crosswell Harmes

Hard for me to fo past this team!

The only guy i would add (not because of talent, but love how he went about it) would be Phil Maylin :dizzy:

B: Tom Williamson SOS Wayne Harmes
HB: Doormat(VC) Swan McKay Ken Hunter
C: Phil Maylin Diesel Petrevski-Seton
HF: Dominator Rob Walls Buzz
F: Charlie Curnow Sticks Paddy Dow
R: Wow Jones Jim Buckley(C) Kenny Sheldon

IC: Crippa Judd Alan Mangles Rhys

Even though i don't remember Wallsy playing for us i am reliably informed that he was my 1st favorite Carlton player.

Swan was unique. I only remember the old Swan. I almost marked his sealer in '81. I liked his pot stirring in retirement too.

Harmes, Doull, Hunter, Maylin, Dominator, Buzz, Wow, Jimmy and Kenny were my favorites as a duffle wearing young teen in our glory years.

I played my own footy, concentrated on local footy, lived life, and Carlton was just a bit of a blurry sidelight from mid 80's to early 2000's so no real favorites from then. As boring middle age hit, AFL took more a priority again last 10 or so years.

I bought in very early to the 4 young kids in this team, and Crippa has a certain aura.

SOS, Diesel, Sticks and Judd, just true champions.

Rhys was unique, like Swan.

Alan Mangles i used to follow as a tacker when we'd get to Princes Park early every week and he'd usually dominate in the guts in the early game.

Top thread:thumbsu:

Been watching (in love) since the 90s, here's my favourites:

Christou SOS Franchina
Yarran Sexton McKay
Bradley Williams Kouta
Heaver Sticks Lappin
Pearce Fevola Hickmott

Allan Judd Cripps

Murphy Walker Ratten Hulme

Six premierships old but cannot remember the first one and Jezza past his best by the second one ...

Dean. SOS. Hunter.

Doull. Sexton. McKay.

Glascott. Johnston. Bradley.

Harmes. Kernahan. Koutafides.

Betts. Fevola. Bosustow.

R. Allan. F Brown. Ashman.

I. Ratten. Simpson. Judd. Whitnall.

E. J Buckley. Naley. Hickmott.

Having followed the Blues since '67 I could easily leave it at the '72 GF side - I hated those sniping Tigger b*st*rds.

But here goes:

B: English Silvagni Dean
HB: Doull D.McKay Hunter
C: Crane Williams Bradley
HF: Jezza Kernahan (v/c) Johnston
F: Betts Ditchburn Bosustow
Foll: Nicholls Kouta Judd
Int: Ashman Rhys-Jones Crosswell Harmes
Emerg: Cripps Southby J.Buckley
Captain/Coach: Nicholls

Lots of fave players missing out but this team would demolish any team in the AFL today and have a ripper of a night afterwards :)

IC: Madden / Cripps / Dean / Whitnall

Made 2 changes

1) Horrified that I had to move Cripps onto the bench, but think you have to have Diesel in the guts

2) An all-important positional change :D

1995 is the first year I can remember clearly.

B: Christou - Silvagni - Dean
HB: Simpson - Sexton - McKay
C: Koutoufides - Ratten - Judd
HF: Williams - Kernahan - Lappin
F: Pearce - Fevola - Betts
R: Kreuzer - Cripps - Bradley
Int: Brown - Rice - Murphy - Whitnall

Hickmott SOS Harmes

Dean Sexton Mckay

Brown Diesel Blackwell

Hunter Sticks (C) Buzz

Sheldon Fev Eddie

Foll - Kreuzer Kouta Ratten

Bench - Simmo F.Murphy Bucks Judd

I could easily come up with a second team too, apologies to The Duke, Molly, Ashy, Doully, Ang, The Dominator and current guns Crippa & Doc and future faves in Charlie, Willo, Paddy, Samo and the Plow.

Mid 70's onwards

Harmes ... Silvagni ... Swan McKay
Hunter ... Perovic ... Doull
Yarran ... Williams ... Rhys-Jones
Dominator ... Kernahan ... Jezza
Pickett ... Bosustow ... Percy

Wow ... Judd ... Buckley

Walls ... SPS ... Cripps ... Kruezer

Emerg : Stan Gilday (55) ... for you Stig

All time favorite : Sir Bruce Doull
Player id love to have been : Dominator
Current day favorites : Pickett/SPS
