Given that Geelong is our next opponent, what has been your favourite Essendon vs Geelong game from the recent past? There has been some corkers in front of some mammoth crowds in the last 10 or 12 years.

1996 was good, however Mick Long doing his knee took the gloss off that victory,so i`ve gone for the `93 match, magic.
Used to enjoy my trips down to the cattery with the old man (drive) or mates (train) always ended up very p issed on the train, one year they actually served grog, stopped for the next trip !

QF 1989 for me. Earlier in the year we had been annihilated on the Queens birthday before 87,653 (we only kicked four goals)

In the qualifying final, Geelong were warm favourites after their record breaking year, but we jumped them with two quick goals to Van der Haar and ended up winning by 76 points.

Pity about the preliminary final two weeks later.

My favourites are not listed there.

1995, a huge crowd at the G and Essendon leading for most of the mact. A great 3rd quarter by the Cats and they were within a kick at 3qtr time. The last quarter was a classic - enter Gary Ablett. A one-handed mark against James Hird and a goal to give us the lead. It was gloomy, the lights were on, and everyone was doing the mexican wave. The ball was kicked into the Geelong forward line and Gazza kicked one of the goals of the year accross his body, followed 20 seconds later by a snap from Riccardi. All of a sudden the score was 111 to 94 Geelongs way. That was a great match!

My next favourite was Essendon v Geelong, round 22, 1998. The dons were playing for a spot in the finals, the cats were not. Nobody gave us a chance, and we made a gutsy win over the Dons, who ended up anyway taking 8th spot, even though thye probably did not deserve it.

My least favourite was in 1997 when we lost in that latter round. That was not a game Essendon won, it was a game Geelong lost. Practicly dominated all day, had 5 more scoring shots, and we threw it away in the end. There was one stage when Barnsey (playing for us) marked in the goalsquare and was put on the dodgyest angle of all time and kicked a point, to the boos of the umpire. That was the match that took top spot from us... and paved the way for Adelaide. Thanks, Essendon!

I'll always remember that game for the amount of abuse the Essendon supporters were giving Sheedy. They wanted him sacked.
I wonder if those supporters are still following Essendon.

That would have to be my favourite too. Pity we don't have the great man nowadays. That game was played in front of over 75000 and the atmosphere was awesome, especially during our comeback in the second half.

Yes it was a great game. The crowd was about 81,000. I can remember sitting in the great southern stand on level 4 looking across at teh ponsford and they'd started to open up the MCC members to the public.
