This is a superb piece of literature from one of the country's finest sporting journos in Rusty Jackson. You can really pick up the passion in Fisher's voice when reading this. A true love of the game.

Top bloke, knows absolutely everything about making a bat that's perfect for how you play.

Makes a bloody good bat, too, anywhere near the middle will go a long way, and as he said, he doesn't really make monster bats, which is even more impressive.

It'll be a shame when I need my next bat, JPGavan and some other joint in Daylesford are the only places I've seen that do anything custom.

When I first brought my Fisher to my cricket games I was scoffed at by team mates for not having a brand bat.

Then a couple of them tried it and from then I regularly fielded requests from teammates to use it at training and sometimes in matches too.

Its middle was outstanding. When you nailed one, boy did it stay hit.

Is it just me or does the idea of a shoe brand like New Balance or the Nike bats that Kohli used to use seem ridiculous? I look at the bats Root and Smith use and just assume that they're planks because of the branding on them. Like those Wills Kings bats the Pakistanis came out here with in 95-96 - a durry company FFS
Yep

I give nothin to anybody who uses them

Remember those Reebok bats?! Disgusting

In regards to Fisher and his bat making business I believe if he had of invested time into some sort of advertising/marketing he'd be doing better off. His only really known through word of mouth and if he had a Facebook, Twitter & Instagram account promoting his product, it'd be out there.

Slazenger Runmaker, Kim Hughes signature, dual bands of pig skin around the blade
Progressed to a Symonds Super Tusker, not a great bat
Then on to a Kookaburra Ridgeback, 330 bucks for a bat in the early 90's was ludicrous. Beautiful weight and balance, however had no guts. Hung on to it for a few years, eventually gave it to a mates younger brother.
Managed to get my hands on one of Mike Valetta's Power Spots, was near the end of its life with a huge indentation in the middle. Got about 3 innings out of it before it snapped in half. Beautifully balanced bat, ball just pinged off it.
Finally a V600. Went for about 12 seasons, huge amount of runs, mostly due to number of people who used it. Beautiful bat, huge middle, also probably lasted so well cause I never batted in the nets. Kept in in the boot for the rare times able to bat in the middle at training.

One of my mates from school is Sehwag's first cousin (this is legit - his pride and joy is a photograph dating back to the Indian tour in 2008 of him sitting with Sehwag, Dhoni, Ishant Sharma and I think Irfan Pathan in his living room).
Sehwag gave him one of his old test bats that he had scored a century with.

We used it a few times in the nets and it was perfect.

You used it????

You used it????

Yeah.
Went down to the high school nets a few times before because we all wanted to try out the bat used in a test century (I was told it was the bat Sehwag used when he scored ~195 in the 2003 Boxing Day Test).

Every shot felt so powerful.

Yeah.

Hope it ended up behind some glass. Indian collectors distort the market for that sort of thing so much it's not even funny when it comes to their players.

If it hasn't ended up behind glass, my friends own a framing shop, and art gallery, where for a small fortune they'll do you museum quality framing, and conservation, I'll even get you a discount. They had one of Bill Woodfull's baggy greens through there recently.

Last I heard its been stored behind glass.

I don't think his old man was that happy with it getting used in the nets
