My first car was a 1968 toyota corolla, It was a family friends car who passed away and it was handed down to me.. I spose you could class it as inherritance.

It was an absolute beast

Untill a couple of indigenous children on the corner tried to steal it and didn't know the real technique for turning this complicated beast on.. so they decided to light it up instead.

It was a sad night when the police knocked on my door and asked me if it was my car up in flames!

my first car was a 2004 BA falcon, got it around 2006, got it lowered, rims etc. ended up being 27k in debt. finished paying it off a couple months ago. biggest regret of my life so far.. absolute waste of cash on flipping rims, insurance and petrol etc. i didn't treat it properly as well, giving it the occasional thrashing. last two services have cost me 2.5k

should have got some 5-6 grand car that costs fk all to run.

Why do people do this shit?

Did you used to drive with one hand on the wheel and one down your pants?

1997 Nissan Bluebird bought in 2003. Paid $5,600 for it, parents covered half so it only cost $2,800. Car got totalled in a car accident when some dude cut me off. Was rapt at the time, i only had 3rd party so getting someone to total my car meant I got paid out. Now wishing I still had it.

Am thinking of selling my 2yr old focus and buying a 12yr old bluebird again. Can get em for $4,500 in good shape.

I used to drive around in my parents vehicles until I got my own brand new ute when I just turned 19 in 2006.

2006 Toyota Hilux;

I still have it but should get something else now that I don't really need it. It has 130,000km already on it. >_<

A 67 VW beetle that used to be my mums. It possessed a lack of appointments and dynamics that would be hard to believe these days, and many peculiarities like 6 volt lighting, cross ply tyres, swing axle rear suspension and a fuel tank up front in the boot.

I hotted it up eventually, which came in handy when I stupidly used it to visit the Ravenswood drag strip one afternoon. About midnight I started the 50 odd kay trip back to Perth, and knew I was in trouble as soon as I turned on the headlights, which were barely adequate with streetlights and virtually non existent in the pitch dark I now had to contend with. I had a very slow trip to the main road which was then only one lane, doing about 40 kph, and then waited for a car to pass so I could give chase and use their headlights. First one turned off fairly soon, and I nearly ended up in a ditch by the side of the road just trying to pull over and stop. I couldn't see shit!

The next car took me all the way to streetlights thankfully, but for some reason, the driver of the 6 pack Charger, who's luck it was to have me for close company, kept speeding up and up, and not wanting to loose him and end up in another ditch, or wait who knows how long for another car at 1 am, I matched him, until we were hurtling along this narrow, winding, heavily treed country road at 90+ mph.

I lived to tell the tale, but my heart must have been doing 180 bpm, and my knuckles were probably white, if I could have actually seen them. Those lights got a 12v upgrade almost immediately. Much better, and the horn actually worked for the first time after that.

Bloody beetles! Despite that, and a succession of fast cars since, I've still got the little bugger in my garage, all these years later.

Mine was a two tone green 65 VW Beetle, I called her the green terror. It was a fantastic little car, only ever had to replace the clutch cable, had it for over 3 years, until some idiot rear ended me & pushed me into a lamp post.

I had a 1966 beetle, green and 6 volt electrics.
Never let me down and was part of many great times.:thumbsu:

Porche and Volkswagon-----say no more.

I always dreamed of owning a red porsche. A very rich friend of mine when I was in my teens (well his parents were rich) had a canary yellow one, I loved it, but unfortunately he wrote it off one night driving too fast & after a few too many frothies, lucky he wasn't killed.

They were fantastic & never overheated, I can't understand why all car manufacturers didn't put the engines in the rear.

They solved that particular problem by not putting a temperature gauge in them, so you'd never know. :) If the fan belt ever came off, you sure could.
They were pretty tolerant though, unlike cars now, where an overheat usually means the end, and tow truck time.

Rear engined cars can have kinda interesting handling characteristics. Americas answer to the VW in the sixties, the Chevy Corvair, provoked Ralph Naders book "Unsafe at any speed", which was probably a little unfair, but if you're used to how a front engined car handles, a rear job can catch you out. Just putting around they're ok, but get into an emergency situation, or just going faster than is sensible (who, me?), can result in tears.

The swing axle suspension on the old VW's and Porsches contributed a lot to this, but even the later Porsches, before electronics driving aids came along, required an experienced hand if exploring the limits, which is something a Porsche tends to make you want to do. Plenty of novice lotto winners ended up in the trees, or worse.

These days it's all about efficient use of space (front wheel drive), and safety (crumple zones, etc), so rear engines are out of style, except at Porsche, who operate in a different market to most manufactures.

Also, emission controls and the quest for ever higher fuel efficiency killed air cooling, in case you were wondering.

.

I just remembered the emergency fuel supply, I had to use that a few times when I forgot to check the fuel gauge, the Beetle was an engineering masterpiece.:thumbsu:

Why spend so much money on your first car, freaking stupid to spend so much money on a car when you are still a teenager, when the chances are you will probably bang it up a but as well.
And its only a car

Datsun 1200 Ute was my first ever Vehicle.. Loved that little thing, drove it from Perth-Newcastle & back twice. So cheap & kept on going.

Ended up stolen & burnt out in Midvale.

I had a 1989 Mazda MX-6 Turbo. Loved it, 2.2L turbo with heaps of torque steer (known as one of the worst torque-steering cars ever). Cost me $5000 in 2002, in great nick. Took it to Kalgoorlie for vac work in 2003, only made it to just before Southern Cross before I went off the road at 110km/h. Car was totalled, folded up from the centre after flipping it through a tree. Woke up in hospital, only got a small gash at the back of my head to show for it. Still have no recollection of what happened, only know what the people behind me who helped me out told me. If I didn't destroy it I'd still have it today.
