So what teams are those? :)

(As for the first design I drew by hand, it was after reading an article by Kevin Bartlett in the local Leader newspaper (he used to have a regular column) regarding former jumper designs. I had a go at doing Richmond's black with single yellow hoop. Did a few others too but that was the first.)
They were for teams I made up for dice footy.
1 & 2 were a miss, 3 & 4 were behinds and 5 & 6 were a goal, but a 6 meant they got to roll again.
10 rolls per quarter. (Excepting where a 6 had been rolled)

I can't remember the team names, but most of the other 8 teams were VFL clubs colours.
(And therefore not a new design)
I think one was Green and White stripes, but that was Airport West in the EDFL.
But I'm still yet to see a club wear Royal Blue with Lime Sash or Red with Gold sash.

the idea came from an episode of The Good Life where Richard Briers was playing cricket using a similar method.
His teams were famous people in similar categories, like World Leaders XI, Criminals XI etc.
So I had something similar with names made up out of the phone book.

Good, good... will have to use this system to simulate my own games. Been trying to find an idea for a portfolio league but the ideas I come up with result in way too many startup teams.

I used to play dice cricket as a teenager... based on a game from the Weet-Bix box, "Dougie's Spin Cricket". I used a d6 for batting and a d10 for bowling. Problem was, scores were massive, cos there's no dot balls. However it was perfect for Super 8s and for six-a-side, and it would seem T20 games would work well under the system too.

Another guy had a similar idea... he ended up writing a program and it became Ultra Cricket, which ran for 15 years as the best cricket game on the net, and it DIDN'T HAVE GRAPHICS. It was plain text. I played UC for 12 years with a variety of teams... so many different themes graced the virtual fields of UC. One guy also had random names in his team, some from the phone book, some from his book shelf etc. There was a team of supermodels, a team of doctors, some people based teams on EPL teams... quite a variety. I think the best themed team I ever did was based on The Bill.

My first design was for a St Kilda Seagulls design

Here's my first one. Made it when I was 10. Love the explanation :p

Considering they first used that particular Mazda 3 sponsor in 2010... how old are you?!?! Serious question because your designs are quite good for someone who I calculate to be about 12 years old.

I found out that we'd be using it at the end of 2008 ;)

I believe this was my first created on a computer- MS Paint of course. Before that I used to print off Mero's jumpers, print off sponsors really small, cut them out and glue them on :) And before that, drawing, just like everyone else.

Haha I remember those coolknot, nice.

Why did you stop designing Gibbsy?

Lack of motivation, lack of time, bit of a combination of things. I might get back into in the future but there are so many great designers on here I can't really compete. I'm more into the history of footy jumpers anyway rather than fantasy stuff.

Please note that these were just the first AFL kits that I designed.... I have been playing around with soccer designs for a while, and have no idea where/what the first design was.

Nice ideas. But download the latest photoshop AFL template. It's easy to use and looks better than the soccer templates with the sleeves cut out (no offence).

link me? I did those a while ago, and currently use a different template, but i'm still not overly happy with the one i've been using...

My one and only design. It was for the first all women's side to compete in the AFL for women's rights  As you can see they won the premiership, defeated Hawthorn making it two heartbreaking GF losses in a row :D
Good sense of humour, poor designer is how i would summarise my abilities.
Thanks to lmach for the template.
