Decided to go on road trip with son. Left it too late to book any accommodation over Xmas.

Reminds me of a Tassie trip I took a few years ago. Had no accommodation booked for the 28th of DEC. Figured I'd wing it. Early in the afternoon I was atop Mount Wellington. Nothing in Hobart (except the $600 a night suite at the wharf. Plan B). Nothing at Hamilton, New Norfolk and some other town I can't remember. Nothing by the airport. Started criss crossing my way north. Nothing at all the little places. Eventually got a room in Launceston about 8PM. Thank heavens Tassie is small!

* Side note to this story, is that I'ma middle aged man travelling by himself, and more than a few places are a bit shifty about letting rooms to that demographic. I don't know why. Prefer "families" I guess. Anything with the word "historic" in the motel title can be prone to this. You don't get it in big, urban, or proper hotels. I only add this because I'm sure you'll have a less adventurous trip on the mainland! Have fun! :)

Perth gal probs not appropriate to go w it h your son- but what about a hotel stay in Perth cbd?? Pamper yourself/day spa, act like a tourist. I do that here instead of flying somewhere. And in off peak times its cheap af for a 4 star hotel.

Sounds fine to do with your son. Little trips like this within your own city can be fun. We did this as a family a couple of months ago and I'd definitely do it again. We just visited a few attractions checked out some nice restaurants, walked along the waterfront etc. Good to support local places and then when you're done it's an easy trip home.

Got a fulltime gig back in August (Victoria) when the economy looked like it was dead. Position isn't entry level and usually requires 3-5 years experience to enter into. I don't even have my university degree yet.. (official results come out tomorrow). I earn more than I ever thought I would, I really don't do much work (public service lol) and I'm working from home. I want to quit and have applied for a role that is entry level and a $20k decrease in salary.

Hence the first world problem. I'm getting paid too much, doing too little work, and don't feel challenged. Funnily enough I want to make a difference :(

Spend some time in the corporate world, you'll have those virtuous tendencies bred out of you very quick!
