Not for me. I've never been to a pre-season game in my life to be honest, and that's not going to change. Probably ever.

That'd be true whether we were represented by Spiro the burger guy from Oak Park, Jobe Watson or the Harlem Globetrotters.

Just never been able to get into it.

Yeah, true that. I was arguing earlier against the death penalty on an entirely unrelated board and I probably got accused in some corner of the site of making it all about Hird.

Anyhow, back to the topic of the stellar thing called the NAB Challenge.

Ive never been. Being incredibly close to my home town I might go.
I dont really care whos wearing the jumper. Hird will be there. The support staff Im sure many other players will be and its a game of football.
Thats about as far as I care.

I think the solution is a decent compromise - i mean what other realistic alternatives were there? Not playing - Don't want to think about the penalties/backlash for that one - not worth it. Letting our other 2012 players play - backing down on our word. We had no choice and all up its not a bad solution.

Our kids will be free to play with a few of the old heads and get some experience. We may even find a player really steps up in the absence of our main crew. Meanwhile our senior players will be free to do some intra club matches to get match fit - no real worries there. Even if we start behind the 8 ball slightly the difference won't be huge. Basically we are making the best of a lousy situation.

But make no mistake - if our players are not charged - it will be like this preseason mess never happened for all us supporters. Its games lost in the real season that matters not this rubbish.

The real winner out of this will be Foxtel our 3 matches are set to be televised, and I envisage that these 3 games will be among the top ratings for them.

Bombers Fans, The Haters, The Curious will all be watching for their own reasons, so the saying "there is no such thing as bad publicity" will ring true for Foxtel.

My concern is the nab is mainly a set of match practice games where you can not only top up fitness but crucially test out all the theory you have worked on all pre season. All the structures, all the plays.

We lose this and are behind the 8 ball instantly, worse still we bring in a bunch of ring ins who are not privy to our set play s and structures, so we end up with a rabble structure which could actually detriment the listed players that do actudlly suit up.

I still don't really understand what is happening but surely the players who are not part of the tribunal hearing play with the top ups coming from our VFL list?

Would love to get a look at Coghlan for example. Marigliani and Polkinghorne would also be physically capable. Tippa would be good for a couple of extraordinary things. It would be interesting to see how players like Hickey and Schroder adapt to the pace.

I don't buy into the solidarity argument at all. Anonymity is not hindered because we know which players are before the tribunal. As many players should be playing as possible. It's a good opportunity to get a look at some players we might not otherwise have been able to see in pseudo AFL competition.

I find it extraordinary that we are in limbo at this stage. We can't seriously be expected to front up without top up players. What happens if a handful of the available players aren't fit? Talk about OH&S issues.

****, the AFL can drop the ball with the best of them.

Essendon are going to come out of this so much stronger should these VFL guys be given an opportunity. Cogs for example may come out and show he can mix it with AFL players, we have the inside word under our noses and come seasons end, bang! Listed. Ditto guys like Schrodder, Tagliabue and even Freezer.

The AFL is so caught up in the here and now pressure from the rest of the comp they fail to see the bigger, longer term results.

If Coghlan impresses in the NAB and then throughout the VFL season, I doubt we will be the only club after him.
