Given the $US9m salary cap and the values players were auctioned off at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPL_Auction_2011 who would you have chosen? My strategy would have been to go hard for the quality Indian players and get under rated overseas players. It seems to me most teams bought near the max of ten overseas players when only four can play in one game- go figure but I did the same anyway to make it more realistic. Anyway this is who I would have gone for (basically to get the price I paid for each I added 25,000 to what they did end up going for).

Went for a nice blend of youth and experienced stars with this squad. Went for quite a few young guys from the recent India Under - 19 teams with Jaidev Unadkat one of the most promising. The young guys not picked up in the auction I have valued at the high value of $50,000. So a fairly well balanced squad. Really happy with my top end guys who should perform most matches.
