Forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain the pennant matches/competition to me?

Not something I've come across yet.
They are interclub team match play singles competitions. Typically 7 players from one club play another club and there will be a league of say 4-8 teams. There are leagues all over the state with promotion/relegation between divisions. It's essentially the best players from one club taking on others.

Division 1 sees the likes of RM, Metro, Vic, KH, etc all fighting it out. Nearly all of the great Australian golfers cut their teeth playing pennant and to win a Div 1 flag is a big thing for any club. There can be quite a recruitment drive if a player from the boonies is spotted by someone from a decent club.

edit: as soon as peternorth takes you down to PK, I wouldn't be surprised if some clubs come knocking.

Appreciate the response!

This is exciting. Just another thing for me to get absolutely invested in haha.

BTW, the matches are played off scratch.

When you start playing for PK, make sure that you never get your opponent's name right. If his name is say, Mark, on every hole, call him by a different name starting with M.

"Great putt Mike"
"Pick that one up Matt"
"Think you're away Mal"

Never acknowledge any attempts to correct you and never stop butchering his name. This is the only advice I can give you. Go well.

Indeed. Div 1 is stacked.

Metro
RM
Vic
Nash
PK
Hunt
Commie
KH

Clubs are stacked as well in many cases. the PK team in the past few years had some absolute guns

They also have abbreviated nicknames

I'm guessing it's not a coincidence that all the prestige clubs are Div 1? More money = better players you can recruit, etc etc?

Money!? Wash your mouth out! These are lily white amateurs. It’s a bit of a self-fulfilling system in that the attraction for a prospective player is free or subsidised membership into a “prestige” club along with the chance to be exposed to the highest level of competition.

There’s also typically plenty of home grown players as well.

I don’t know the ins and outs of it but there would surely be a bit of involvement/integration with junior talent programs at Golf Australia

Yarra Yarra is in Div 2.

And as sidey said below, they are ammos. and members first and foremost. dont forget there's only so many spots in pennant, and heaps and HEAPS of gun players at these clubs who arent interested in playing pennant. so its not a fait a compli.

You need to do the right thing by your club and show them the magic of Chadwiko the Boy Wonder.

He's a peacock, let him fly.

There are Q school finals being played on the course I live on atm and it's pretty cool being able to watch some high quality golf from the backyard. A nice change from the usual choppers.
Sandhurst? Would be worth getting out there on Friday to see some high stakes golf.

I watched a bunch of guys play a hole today, so cool seeing some of them able to drive the green on a 335m par 4. Overall it looks so bloody miserable though. They’re so talented but 4 days of high stress just for the chance to try make a living is brutal. Glad I’m just a chopper.

which course?

I also agree with you. Having been up close and personal last wednesday, thursday and on the weekend at national its another world that we and they live in

Have been on fire with my new driver.

Not sure if I’ll ever get there, but 9m shy of hitting the big 300! Location marking looks off, but push cart was in line with the tees and I walked up next to my ball to mark it, so assume it’s pretty close to 291m.

300m drive and 25?
Have you got the chip yips or something?
lol.
My iron play is very hit and miss. 😂
Last lesson I had, he changed my grip and I just can’t feel confident hitting irons.
Going to the range today to hit some and try to work on the new grip/back swing feeling.

I played the same 9 on Thursday arvo and hit this drive. I then hozel rocketed my 58’ into the trees circled in red. 🙃
