Medal day - net 76, with a 2 stroke penalty

Third hole is a part three, tee recently redone. Tee is now quite wide, with a small tier in the middle. Basically cut into four quadrants.

Tee markers back left, red tees front left. Me and one of my usual partners, plus two female members.

We hit off the back tee, then ladies walk up to reds. I walk to the front right of the tee, level with the ladies teeing off. I then notice the BLACK markers are front right, and it was the BLUE markers back left.

Could not believe it. I have no idea why the blues were 15 metres behind the blacks, or why the blacks were level with the reds. I would not even have known if not for playing with the ladies, I would have hit off and headed to the path on the left side of the tee and started walking. I bet a few groups today hit off the wrong tee and didn't know.

Having said that, you don't deserve better than 76 when you have triples on two par 3s. Uggh.
You must wonder how many others did the same AND penalised themselves.

A guy a few groups behind us yesterday hit my provisional ball which was on his fairway (great golf by me hey). I told him after he hit it that it was my ball and his ball was further up, instead of penalising himself and playing the correct ball he just continued playing my ball for the rest of the hole. Then saw him again a handful of holes later and he threw my ball back to me lol..

Rules are clearly optional in the mind of some people.

I used to get quite agitated at things like that, but then I came to the belief that if people are loose with the rules they are really only hurting themselves. Half the time they might not even know that rule.

Actually - sorry just re-read and realised he played your ball to the hole. What a clown!

It’s a hard one. Do you want to have a confrontation over it? Do you talk to the pro and create an enemy?

I’d probably go with the time honored tradition of cowardly telling everyone. Behind his back of course.

This reminds me of that time I suspected this bloke in another group played my ball instead of his. I asked him what he was using and he claimed that his ball was the same as mine. I then asked him if he would show me the ball as my distinct an unusual markings were on the ball. He had putted out on another hole while I had his ball in my pocket. Needless to say he refused to show me.
I was ****ing pissed as it was stroke and I was on the first hole. What a start!

Years ago there was a member at my club that had a habit of claiming any ball that didn't belong to his group as a find. Two weeks in a row I sprayed onto an adjacent fairway and watched him coming the other way pick up and pocket my ball until I called out to him.

The third week I took out an old ball and wrote "To G, best wishes, from J", then threw it out on the fairway he walking up. He didn't find that amusing. :D

I hope you reported him to the pro shop, and he then DQd. Dishonest on the course, what he is like on and off the course.

haha

I pretty much just did what sideswipe said. Had he come in with a good score I might have done otherwise but at the end of the day I'm not losing sleep over it, there will always be people who don't play to the rules and I'm not going to say I'm perfect either. But would I definitely have more integrity than that haha.

Only cheating themselves at the end of the day.

national today. beautiful day and conditions. sunshine lead to sunscreen which i forgot about how annoying it is to apply and wear.

i think 4 lost balls, including 2 on one hole after a monster drive (par 5) that rolled out to the middle of the fairway. yes lets got for a long low % shot, ball lost.

What’s sunscreen? 😃

Nope. I usually cover up as much as I can with clothing and leave the face and legs below the knees exposed. It helps that I don’t choose to play in the woods a lot. 😂
do you ever get sunburnt on the exposed areas? Have you ever used sunscreen?

What about pricks not repairing divots and pitch marks?
Hate that - I have the belief that Golf Karma will catch these people. Along with those who don't rake bunkers.

Also a special place for those who half-arse their repairs.

I had a good round going on Saturday. Good drive up 16 ended up middle of fairway a couple of inches away from a "repaired" divot. This repair was actually a massive pile of sand - probably half a bucket's worth - just dumped on the deck. If I had landed on that, it might have been nicely teed up or more likely almost a bunker lie. The latter would have made me a little angry.

That the repairer couldn't be arsed just dragging his foot over the sand castle indicates a lack of care that is so ordinary.

Got hailed on and rained on at national. Did not wear waterproof pants, only a jacket. So moist and wet. After the 9th I think we didnt get anymore rain. It was strange. Windy.

Also forgot to wear my belt.

Score in the low 30s punctuated with two wipes. no lost balls

It'd be pretty weird if you wore a belt when you weren't wearing pants.

Sounds like things have changed at The National since I was a member in the 90s. I might return.

Played at Redcliffe Golf Course with a Toowoomba friend today and finished with a 68 net (par 71) in a stroke event. I was six shots under handicap until the 13th where I turned an excellent drive into a triple bogey on the 14th (hole 10 was out so hole 17 split in 2). My gap wedge discovered that China is under us if you dig enough. Then proceeded to double bogey the next hole while leaving short par putts on the last three holes just short, centre of the hole. 😒
Definitely cost myself another win. However, if you asked me if I would’ve been happy with three under handicap before the round you know what the answer would’ve been!

I like golf stories that start with "I was(insert good score)", because you know bad things are coming.
