Social round last night. 37 points playing to 8 with 30 putts and x2 wipes. Need to hole more 5-10 footers. Had x7 GIR for no birdies. Only birdie came from a putt in off of the green.
Played very well generally.
Only frustration is that I've been playing the same level of golf for years with no improvement. Just can't get rid of 2 or 3 bad drivers every round. Hitting a few crap shots is going to happen, that's why I need those putts to drop, a few birds would go a long way.

Golf is a funny game.

Went out and had a round of 9 at my local (Altona Lakes).

Hit the driver really well by my standards today (7 out of 9 fairways hit off the tee, and the 2 that missed were still nicely in play). But my irons really let me down today, so overall I wasn't feeling too stoked about the round.

Then at the end of the round, I finally looked at my total score and noticed it was a PB for the course by one stroke, and by far my highest stableford score on the course.

So... that's nice, I guess? Haha.

23 points today

Worst day in history off the tee, from Driver to 3wood to 2iron - all took an R.D.O today. Very disappointing as none had approved leave forms submitted

That's golf

Saturday was 32 points and was very different

Same same! A shocking round at peninsula kwood today. Perfect conditions//....too perfect for me. lost many balls....i think 4.

Spent over an hour pre round on the range, hit a large bucket (80?) and flushed every one.
On to the course played like 💩 , 29 pts.
Stuck in a rut atm, hcp gone from 11’s to high 14’s in a few months.

I played last Tuesday back in Toowoomba. My first game in nearly three weeks. I was there for work for a couple of days but squeezed the round into my schedule. 😃
Anyway, I shot 88/72 (par 70) in the last Sporters Monthly Medal for the year. I was one under handicap for the back nine and finished three under handicap for the front nine. This included a birdie finish on nine.
I nearly wanted to play again the next day after the birdie finish. 😂

Hopefully, I’ll get a game in tomorrow at Wynnum Golf Club, Brisbane.

Played for the first time in about 4 weeks today. Had a massive crowd on the 1st so tee'd it up low and striped it down the middle. Ended on 8 for the hole...

Interesting point regarding warming up on the range.
How do folks here approach this? I usually hit a small bucket on comp days but am leaning towards just hitting enough to start to feel good. I find sometimes I can hit myself out of form when hitting too many.

A vexed question. I believe scientists have proved that there is zero correlation between range form and performance. But 110% of golfers prefer good range form to bad.

It’s a warm up, not a practice session, is probably the best theory.

I stunk today. After feeling good with my $9 little bucket.

I like to feel ball on face (club) pre round. A bucket of balls (dunno how many in it). See what im doing pre round. like you, hit till feel okay whilst watching the time. hosel rockets be damned.

At national i go to chipping area if time permits and get the body moving.

of late i prefer spending time stretching.

Always warm up on the range.
Start with chipping, works great to feel ball on clubface and demands you have tempo...or it sprays everywhere. Might hit a few out of a bunker, then to the long range. 7 irons, again just tempo. It's amazing how well you can hit them when you're just trying to get tempo at 70% power. Couple of 5 irons, maybe a wedge to the target holes. Hit driver until I nail one or two. Then putt for 5-10mins depending on time. Long range just to get the speed then 10 footers to dial it in.

Royal Pines at the Gold Coast on Wednesday. I love playing there but my putting is usually pretty shit at this course.
Just hit your putts harder and allow for less break. There's heaps of grain we're not accustomed to as Victorians.

No more than 20 pre-round.
Starting with LW finishing with 4iron. Then 2-3 chips w ~60, 2-3 w ~56. And finish with putting, drop 2 balls on each of the compass points 4ft from the hole. Make them both before moving from N > W > E > S.

Always finish with a long putt where your aim is to get the distance/speed. Then walk up to #1 and hit your driver ~260m up the guts.

It's an easy sport if you don't think about it too much.

The one thing I'd do is get into the habit of working out where you want to hit your 2nd shot from, that removes trouble (doubles potentially). Do this consistently well and you'll drop 3-5 shots quickly.

Also most ordinary players have their balls too far forward in their stance, try moving it back (therefore de-lofting your irons) and hitting it further and a tad lower. Works a treat. Also helps ball striking from non-fairway lies (another few shot you're probably wasting)

You can’t just drop this without a 2000 word description of every detail.
Short par 4 playing about 230 yesterday. Green is well protected by bunkers front right so you need to hit a fade and avoid trees overhanging left of the fairway. My stock shot is a draw and you can’t hold the green hitting a draw as the green also slopes off to the left. Usually I’d try hit a draw short left and leave a relatively easy chip onto the green.

Yesterday was Ambrose though so I went for it, given I’d never actually hit the green before so I didn’t hesitate to hit while the group ahead were putting out, apparently it rolled through someone’s legs and straight into the hole. We couldn’t see the bottom of the flag so only had an inkling it went in because the group in front were all carrying on celebrating lol.

Amazing.

As good a story as there is!

....over-hanging trees on left (obviously) means room for a fade - I've had it wrong all these years lol

Brutal at the national terrific start NOT. Scrambling for a point on one. Lost ball double on 2. Thought it’s gonna be poo. Somehow pared 42% of the remaining nine to clear 17 points. Holy 19 putts!! Though didn’t mind given the wind and large greens. Just happy to survive.

Two 🐧 on the back 9 helped offset a double and triple 😂 87 off the stick off 17

Windy as ****. Gusts were scheduled for 60-70 km/h. one of my putts, a birdie putt from not far, was so limp wristed in the back swing that it was smashed by said wind. weak.

couldve been a very very good round
😂
