My house backs onto Royal Melbourne, and I'm around the corner from Victoria.

I need to gauge the viability of joining one of them, or just go with Commonwealth, Woodlands etc. Yarra Yarra would be another possiblity.
you have a plethora of choices!!!

id say RM, cause youre so close!!!

That's what I want to get down to this year. Already dropped 3 strokes this year but still at 22 GA.
i was off 24 just before xmas. consistent golf with good people will help.

Murmurs of $20k a year and a $100k joining fee are a bit disconcerting though.
do it.

then invite me

Got picked to play pennant tomorrow, any other week I reckon I'd be stoked but after my horrible, horrible round today I'm not so sure haha.

-3 playing Par and that could have been much worse had I not scored +'s on the final 3 holes. Couldn't find any rhythm at all today.

Absolutely nowhere near that Pykie I can guarantee it! I've got the data re all 4 that you mentioned - will try to hunt it down.

My recollection is that there is not a single sandbelt course with a joining fee over $15k or annual subs over $5k.

Approx joining fees: RM $14-15k, Vic $13k, Metro $14-15k, KH $13k.
Subs: RM $4.6k and the others are all within say $300 either side of this. Metro the dearest traditionally. You also need to pay $400-500 in advance over the bar.

given the facts and stats you've provided, id go KH for cheapest and value for money. However, Pykie for personal standpoint, please go royal melbourne.

Moonah at the national yesterday. wasnt in right frame to play for a few reasons:

1. one course taken by a corporate day, parking was gonna be a bitch
2. morning tee times on moonah taken by pennant
3. had a guest who has barely played, but wants to get into it.

i just wasnt mentally prepared. anyway, guest and i rock up, no comp. cool i say.

first hole, 2 guests from recip club tee off in front of us. nice guys..it was apparent they would take some time, looking for balls during that hole. cant fault them too much given its their first time at the Nash.

my group about to tee off, another 2 players rock up. they tee off. so in front of me are 2 x 2. ok. play ball.

first hole, my mate guest toes his ball low and hard into the shit. gone. note he's only started playing moreso recently at local public courses. 2 lost balls on the first hole for him. my rhythm was broken throughout the round as we had to wait for the 2 x 2 in front, as there were 2 x 4 womens groups in front of them. ok, that's life. rhythm wise, my fault for not staying focused.

anyway, so were on the first putting (we have 3 players). suddenly the group of 4 behind us are waiting to hit their second shot into the green. wut? we checked the time, they teed off 5 mins early (ie not 20 past, but quarter past!). got my mad.

throughout the front 9 they were always there or there abouts. up our arse. we couldnt move any faster. group in front of us apologised unecessarily for the delays. they were nice people.

reckon hit 107 off the stick. slight wind, but nothing to cry about. just couldnt get things going. my swing was all over the place, here and there.

highlight was paring the par 4 4th (index 2).

grrrr.

Speaking to some people, Huntingdale and Kingston Heath may be the go.

Huntingdale is pretty good price wise atm. Around $2k joining and $1500 subs which seems like a bit of a bargain to me. No comp fee's either.

Kingston Heath you can haggle down the joining fee for younger players (I'm late 20's), but they don't give out prices and you MUST get your membership form off of another full member, they don't give them out.

Metro's waiting list is about 2 years and that's for potential pennant players.

Played to my HC today. Made some nice putts, but lost some strokes when i was around the greens and not setting myself up for enough 1 putts.

Dropped strokes on the final two holes today which was disappointing. Was asked to play pennant again tomorrow but had to turn it down. The mrs will kill me if I spend another weekend golfing and spending no time with her haha.

Plus tomorrow is at Woodend GC and thats not a course for a bloke as unfit as I am haha. There is a hill so steep they actually have a motorised pully system to assist you climb it with your clubs. It doesn't help that much though haha.

Played in our Saturday comp yesterday. 29pts in a Stab with 2 close washes. Played like a dog, an insult to dogs I know, but only had 25 putts.

i played in sunday comp today, Old Course. my fave. for some reason i lose less balls here in comparison to the Ocean and Moonah courses.

14 points front 9. couldnt hit the bloody thing. first three holes went 1, wipe, wipe. lol. came home on the front 9 hard obviously.

back 9 went beserk. pars here, there, making 3 pointers. unfortunately was putting for a few birds, but just missing.

20 on the back leading to 34 and some prizemoneies!!

The positives of living in QLD. Had a 'battle of the codes' comp day at golf. I would have been one of a handful out of the ~200 person field who nominated AFL - easy money from the NRL peasants.

I am putting extremely well at the moment. Butchered the par 3s (3, 5, 5, 5). I did 3 putt the 18th which was a pain.

Only played around once a month for the 6-8 months prior to March. Have been playing once a week for the past 4 weeks. Still don't play enough but the HC is coming down a bit.

Only club I'm struggling with is the driver. Massive slice. Basically aim far left to end up on the right hand side of the fairway :$

Reckon with a bit of practice each week and a lesson or 2 I could get down to single digits (current GA 15; w/slope 18) reasonably quickly. Just don't play enough.

Played the Ellenbrook 18 at the Vines today for the first time in a while. In absolutely laughable condition. They'll be losing members by the droves shortly.
