two mates whom i have invited for a round have declined. this despite both talking up their games (both are hackers, not even weekend ones at that!). one of them actually accepted, then i explained green fee/cost of the round and flyover of the course. nek minnut, oh sorry got a lunch on.

We have a group of 13 golfers playing Saturday and Sunday.

Any ideas for vompetition format?
Usually we play
Whack / FK / drink on friday
Stableford saturday
2 or 3 man Ambrose on Sunday

Thoughts for a 13 man format anyone?

Whack ball
Watch it and say FK
= drink
Very casual round to say the least

I'd like stroke but its been vetoed in the past.

Thinking of combined SFord scores over the 2 days
Or SFord Saturday
And 4bbb on Sunday and someone randomly gets a dble pairing., however we'd then have to play as a 4,4,5 or 4,6,3

I'm sure we all have some terrible luck stories to share. Yesterday I was out having a hit and chipped a lovely ball from about 70m out that was looking right at the pin. The bloody thing hit the very top of the flag stick. Launched into the air and went 30m over the back of the green! Lucky it was just a practice round!

looks nice on the website. how were conditions poor?
They have 6 greenkeepers for a 36 hole club, they just can't maintain it. Fairways very unevenly grassed (lots of bare patches) as well as some pretty horrible weed. Greens are putrid, particularly on the turn and the back 9. Lots of eweed and moss (!!!) running through them.

Sounds like yet another club under serious duress. By way of comparison most sandbelt clubs operate with between 14-16 for just 18 holes.

Also smells like they are struggling to settle their account with their herbicide supplier.

Speaking to some people, Huntingdale and Kingston Heath may be the go.

Huntingdale is pretty good price wise atm. Around $2k joining and $1500 subs which seems like a bit of a bargain to me. No comp fee's either.

Kingston Heath you can haggle down the joining fee for younger players (I'm late 20's), but they don't give out prices and you MUST get your membership form off of another full member, they don't give them out.

Metro's waiting list is about 2 years and that's for potential pennant players.
Staggers me why anyone would ever want to join Huntingdale unless cost is the overriding factor. Make sure you ask how crowded their timesheets are in your membership interview!

And I'd be interested where you heard you could haggle down fees at KH.

First comp and round in a month of two this arvo. 19 points after wiping the first. Was pretty happy with that. Pitching wedge was working well which was a pleasant surprise.

Peninsula Golf Course today. such a lovely course (North course). nice facilities, although with the South course being redone there is a lot of sand and excavating machinery around.

Comp today is 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford and my usual partner is playing footy this season so not sure who I'll play with yet.

Running off about 3 hours sleep so will see how I go.

After a pretty poor round yesterday I was surprised to get the call up for pennant today. Played Mt Macedon today. Played socially there before but only the front 9. It's only a 9 green course but different tees on the back 9 and some of them are quite tricky. Being handicap pennant, I drew a bloke with the same HC as myself which was good for all. Was two up after 16, lost the 17th and squared the 18th to beat my opponent. Team lost 3-4 though.

Gone missing for a while on here... form was shocking a month ago... got belted in my first pennant match around a prick of a golf course (kikuyu grass is a noxious fking weed) ruled myself out of pennant for the year, a few work commitments etc were going to make it tough for me to practice.

Anyway a casual Saturday comp 3 weeks ago saw 39 points off 4 around the temp par 65 course at Northern, made a few putts hit it OK but hard to tell how you are going with SOOOOO many par 3's. Our new holes opened last week 40 points which was enough to win me the "Harold Strange" Memorial trophy!! which was aggregate stableford over the 2 Saturdays. Then strolled around today in -2 and doubled my 10th hole (1st on the card which is not a hard one) finished birdie birdie which is always really nice.

Just did the numbers I hit 16 greens in reg today!! pretty sure that is my best ever!
