you get what you pay for. Its short, fairways okay. greens are green at least. Cheap. Very easy course and I suggest for beginners to play there

Whats the course like members? Might play there next week.

It's in okay nick does the job for me, right near footy so I can sneak in 9 before training the fairways are nice & the greens are okay for a public course. It is very short but that's alright.

no such thing as an easy course don....unless you go around in par or under consistently. made that mistake before, said it about ringwood. a few of the regulars there ask if its easy why arent i hitting around in < 70?

i am saddened to bring you the news that i wont be down on the penninsula this weekend. was supposed to play on the guest course (ocean) but pulled out. its not that there seem to be many n00bs on a guest course over a long weekend, its just i am fatigued and a break would do me the world of good.

Played today at my local (Riverside) which was the first time I had played in a few weeks. Couldn't hit the ball to save myself, yet still got a PB again with going around in 55 which is 5 strokes off my previous best score. I 4 putted I think twice which wasnt that bad, then getting par on the last hole was pleasing.

Just difficult to find a regular time/day to play as Uni is back in full swing.

Had a hit at Growling Frog. The course is in amazing nick. The wind was up and was expecting a tough day at the office.

BUT....

Came out and played possibly my best round off the stick yet. 83. Really could and should have been a sub 80. Missed 3 very makable birdie puts and a few more that I rushed. Borrowed a driver and was crushing my drives like I have never done before. Some of them would've been easily 300 (after roll). Felt good.

ONly downside was my game from about 120 and closer. I really need to work on this game and its going to be challenging but I am up for it!

re driver - feels good man?

what are you playing off don?

win the comp?

No comps mate just social golf around uni. Often solo which sucks but dont mind playing like that.

I don't have one yet. Only had one card signed off. None of my friends have handicaps and it's near on impossible to find someone to play and sign card off.

Played last week at a gold day and he said I would be around a 12 handicap. Maybe a little higher.

Boy did it feel good having 5 chances at birdies. But it felt shit missing 4 of those!

played with a member of RM yesterday at national. he's been a member at both courses for a long time, reckons the old and moonah courses are almost equal with RM (if not just a tad under).
I know most blokes try to pump up their own courses but I doubt even Robert Trent Jones Jnr would claim that National Old is even in the same post code as Royal Melbourne West.

RMW architecturally is light years ahead of those two.

well playing partner's a member at both courses.

well they're not in the same postcode cause ones in...... :D;)

would love to play RM one day to see the diff

won match play 4 & 3, shot 99 finished the 18th in the dark was a cracka of a evening

one thing i will add the course is fantastic. i went in not expecting much but its a cracka. not all that difficult & the rough is not all that rough just patchy grass but i really enjoyed it. of it wasnt for great rounds i would have never gone there. it does have the potensional to get very windy with the area its in but its good to see a quality public course in the west, the ppl out there deserve it.

Good stuff members. Can already see you improving which is the best thing about golf. Improvement comes but it depends on how hard you want it and work on it (actually thats pretty much a lot of stuff haha)

Hoping to have a hit with these blades next week or the week after. could be a disaster.

Do you ever do any work?

I'm having a hit tomorrow.

I retired from work 10 years ago. I retired from golf 20 years ago but resumed in 05 for medical reasons. It's just a walk around now.

hi all

rosanna gc this morning. lots of dew. no wind (to me anyway). 30 pts, kept finding bunkers and losing balls off the tee.

i hate my life.

I'd hate my life if I played Rosanna as well.
Terrible golf course

The fact that he's a member at both courses is only relevant if he actually has a clue - which it sounds like he doesn't if he thinks National Old is comparable to Royal Melbourne West.

You don't automatically get a Masters degree in course design but forking out $10k to become a member at the National.

Peninsula North was extremely difficult in the 30-35kph winds on Monday. For a relatively short course it can be as tough as anywhere in Melbourne if you're not on your game.

Terrific layout and you'd never get bored playing there. Very well maintained at present too with the Trans Tasman tournament there last week.

Think I am going to have a hit at growling frog this afternoon.

Wind is getting up, could be hot. Could make for an interesting afternoon.
