Yes I'm a stat nerd.

899th round today at my course of choice, in the previous 898 I've broken 40 on a nine a total of 17 times (par 73).

Did it twice today.

AGU handicap at the start of December was 14.3 (17) now 9.2 (11) :thumbsu:

Great effort mate, Keysborough is a tough track also so breaking 40 on either 9 is a good effort the back nine there is particularly strong!!

Great golf!

Assuming no wipes?

No one pointers, no wipes. 1 bird 12 Pars 5 bogies. 8 GIR

Would be the first game I've ever played without a 6 or worse on the card. (not counting Burnley)

I really need to learn my club carry distances, how did you guys do it? What method is best for determining club carry to a relatively accurate degree without the use of a launch monitor or pacing out shots?

Practice
And aim to hit a distance not hit the club

Hi all

played at The National GC today. Members course was Ocean...yay. from the outset > 40km winds, northerly. so yeah. first hole into the wind par 5. managed to drive into the middle, 4 hybrid, chip and a few putts for a 6. fun.

50 off the stick for front 9. wind just kept on keeping on. balls had to be marked quickly. putting was nearly impossible!

anyway, 51 back 9. net 80.

submitted card, only for golf ops to advise comp is called off due to conditions.

Club that I'm a member of has had discussions and released an info paper to members with focus group discussions to come all regarding the future viability of the club going forward - which under current expenses, revenue etc is unsustainable.

Info paper proposes the club undertake a development, merge with another club, merge with a social club, sell the entire club, sell a portion of the club, reduce the club facilities (kitchen is losing money year on year I think), transition to a private club and double fees or continue same as now and raise fees substantially.

Not a great place for the club to be in. A range of options to consider.

Lots and Lots of clubs going thru it unfortunately

Is sell land and build elsewhere an option? heaps of Vic based clubs did that recently

I don't know enough about our exact situation but have heard the relocation and merging options have been successful elsewhere.

The areas highlighted blue denote the land which could possible be sold/redeveloped.

Top left is a par 3 course, bottom right is unused land and will never be used. Top right is a par 4 and if that land was sold the hole would become a par 3 (so I guess par 71 course). Bottom left is - carpark, clubhouse, pro shop, putting green, part of the first hole and storage sheds.

Generally a terrible idea as a) you are just kicking the can of an unsustainable business model down the road, b) you will be moving to a venue a large distance from your members and c) the land you'll acquire will be crap as it will be unsuitable for housing and that's why you're being offered it

Regardless of what is done, the bleeding needs to stop or be slowed to manageable levels before anything else is put in place.
Easier said than done however. Generally clubs in the situation you describe have tried to do this and find themselves having to explore extreme solutions as a last resort.

I'm led to believe that the kitchen/restaurant is the biggest loss maker by far. So if that is addressed then its a start.

Just had a look at the subs for your club mate. $1500 for a 7 day unlimited membership? A lot of your retirees are getting super cheap golf.

It is cheap and part of the reason I think is because of the age demographic.

pissed down today at National. couldnt get my driver going. bad slice. had to aim at least 33% to the left just to get it in the middle. a paltry 26 pts.

on the good side, hitting 4 hybrid well. straight. irons coming off low due to closed club face/

whats your take on rain golf? lots of slippage in the hand/shaft? putting for me becomes harder, ball picks up more shit off teh ground (sand) and slower greens.

I have a 3 hybrid that I can't hit to save myself and my 3 iron isn't much better. Yet my 4 iron is probably my favourite club in the bag right now and I have a 5 hybrid that I absolutely love.

Regarding golf in the rain, I find it gives me an advantage if anything. Obviously I don't enjoy it but find it really makes me concentrate on each stroke and give it the attention it deserves where I know other golfers just don't want to be out there. I apply the same login on really windy days haha.
