Yeah keeping the club face square is good for low confidence level juss .
Even a shortened backswing for a bit will help keep it square just so you get that feeling of club hitting ball again and focus on following right through and you’ll hit it far enough anyway.
Like you say no point ****ing about with your swing mechanics at the moment.

In this country we are obsessed with the perfect swing. Contrast with USA where they work with whatever your DNA presents.
I havent helped myself and I know how I got to this, I've got 2 different coaches, I tried both and sort of tried to take the best of both worlds but that in combination with using YouTube has given me too much to deal with and my swing is just a mess now of 100 different focusses and tweaks to fix the problem caused by another fault. That's why I feel so lost now, almost need to start again. I 100% get too caught in to what is the best textbook swing technique, instead of not giving a shit what my swing looks like but trying to actually play golf and craft my swing to get the ball in the hole in as few shots as possible. I partly blame one of my coaches for this as he doesn't even look at ball flight and has me hitting into a net and just focusses on the swing regardless of the result, and wants the swing to be tour level technique. He doesn't really look at the capabilities of my physique, flexibility, restrictions.

If it’s possible I’d say try and jump on the course when it’s quiet and play 9 maybe with only a 7-9 iron.

First step to fixing a slice is understanding why you slice .. for me I do 2 things , open the club face on the takeaway ( I was breaking my wrists quite early), and swing over the top.

From those 2 things I’ve got a handle on my irons to be a fade at worst but I struggle with driver still thought I was getting a hold but without the range I agree it’s hard to fix

But step 1 is understanding it. Slicing comes from swinging out to in and opening the face at impact to try hit it straight (rather than hard left where the plane is taking it)

I’d say take some videos of yourself in the back yard, on slow mo , and see what you’re doing with the club on takeaway.
I'm 99% sure I come out to in, and the sidespin is pushing everything right. Problem is I've gone down the YouTube route to try and solve it but I just can't seem to rectify that swing path. I've tried too many different backswing tips that I've overcomplicated it a bit now, too many thoughts, tension, lack of confidence, non committal, trying something new every swing. Almost need to just go to my next lesson and ask my coach to start again.

92 at Gisborne today. Course and especially some fairways a bit soggy for my liking. Feels like I've extra couple of kms.
Guy in the pro shop told me they have a couple of hundred members that are in the metro area that are now unable to play

Pretty sure I saw it somewhere that Goonawara and Gisborne GC's were working together on allowing members of their respective clubs to play at either of the golf courses depending on which council they are living in during these latest lockdowns.
So it could be that those members unable to play Gisborne are playing Goonawara and vice versa.

Goona members who live in Macedon shire can play Gisborne.

Yeah it’s always just about unplayable from June- August
I usually like playing the course but I don't think I've played it in winter before. Thought i would take the chance while it is quiet at the moment. Wouldn't go back until at least September

Just a cheeky 9 at yarra bend today in the afternoon. Back 9 holes which I l prefer more than the front 9. Had a horror 9 on one of the par 5's which really threw me but apart from that was happy to walk away with 44 after basically having to scramble every hole. Hated wearing the mask

I assume your coaches have checked your grip? It really determines how you play.
It's your inescapable starting point.

I got a grip set up very early on, and haven't really changed it since. Probably something il ask them about, but id lean towards its probably acceptable.

What does it mean when people say scramble?

Mate made me laugh yesterday.
He says “im going to try a DeChambeau next hole, going to ****ing murder my tee shot you watch”
He plays off 3 so he knows what he’s doing but he just wanted to do it!
I was crying after it he missed it altogether and slipped a bit, then next one he hit the ground about two feet before the ball and then just bunted it along the ground.
We were pissing ourselves the pair of us.
Really puts that incredible swing speed of his and control into context.

It is actually a rare skill to be able to have a single coach, take a lesson and then just work and work on only what the coach has given you until the next lesson.

I think it's a result of the constant state of distraction all of us find ourselves in these days. Encourage you to read one of Cal Newport's excellent books to start developing some singularity of focus.

Patience too, when I get something to focus on that might be only half or quarter swings until next time, its hard to just to that and not want to do more like full swings, especially if it's a few weeks between lessons. On books, I just ordered a couple of golf mental game books, mainly because I want to start enjoying my golf more again and not seeing it as something I'm nervous for and failing at. Zen Golf and Golf is not a game of perfect, both were recommended to me and have popular reviews.

its all about trust in the coach
I struggle with this in a lot of aspects in my life, Im quite neurotic and anxious person and it's almost like a type of FOMO, where I'm never satisfied and I question which coach is right? Who to follow? Are there better pieces of advice out there for me? The constant searching for answers and wanting to make sure I'm following the correct advice and validating it is pretty hard. Especially when everyone seems to have a different approach.

I’ve shortened my backswing over the last month and it has drastically reduced my slice with irons and driver, very rarely slice the driver now.

I’ve lost maybe 10-15m of distance but I’m more than happy to lose that to hit more fairways.

Terrific book. He has a very calm writing style.

I think Rotella's best book is The Golf of Your Dreams. It would be a really good read for you Juss. It's a book about the process of improvement. He covers all the things in your post re finding the right coach, shutting out other sources of advice, patience etc.

Will have a look, have the first two on order on the way, so will see how I find them :)

It’s a violation of our rights. How is any of this legal? Is it in the clubs constitution? The day is coming when there’s going to be a major public backlash.
In Australia we don't have a Bill of Rights. We have a constitution and laws but no fundamental 'rights' such as the 'right to bear arms'. So if the government says we have to do something we have to do it. Unless you can find precedent (Law) that says otherwise.
At the end of the day, the demographic of golfers (older) is most at risk so it makes sense to be more precautionary than not. For me it's nice to think that by me wearing a mask/ following protocols it reduces the risk of fellow club members dying. I couldn't live with myself if an outbreak at a club was traced to me.

Wearing a mask on a golf course or exercising isn’t going to save anyone.
