Controversial take! But that's what we're here for. Bit harsh to judge bunkers when they are that wet.

I reckon Par cops a bad rap. Anyone who thinks they miss out on scoring opportunities because they can't get a 4 pointer needs to remember they shoot far more wipes than 4 pointers. Par scores are usually higher/better than stableford.
Would play your course over it everyday of the week.
As the 6th light plane flew overhead during our round I said to my playing partners now I know why most of the fairways are straight and flat.

I would say dull.
Didn’t stand on any tee and say wow, what a great hole.
Tough school. 3 and 4 at a minimum are world class short par 4s. The bunkering construction is classic sandbelt throughout and it has a lovely set of green complexes.

No one is saying this is Royal Melbourne West but it easily gives somewhere like Metropolitan a good fight in a H2H contest.

Played my first 'proper' course today with a round of 18 at Mt Derrimut with mates. Course was fantastic and conditions were mostly good, with a few periods of pretty challenging wind.

Will remember it forever, because I also got my first ever birdie. And it came on a par 4 (hole 5) which just makes it all the sweeter.

Drove it pretty damned well off the tees today (by my standards) but unfortunately had a couple of holes where I absolutely shanked my irons on the 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th...) shots to end up with a total of 125.

I know I can do better though so it's all up from here.

Obligatory selfie after my first career birdie;

Well done mate. Loving the updates. 125 is getting full value from your green fee

48 on the front...35 on the shorter back (1 over). Go figure. Did not miss a fairway on the back using 3 wood every time. 14 putts on that nine.

You will all be happy that, although in the bag, I didn't use chipper once and backed myself with S iron and executed with no brain farts.

Awesome work Chaddy. Welcome to the great game.

Haha. Not wrong!

The lack of consistency is what trips me up. Especially with my irons. My wedges were actually decent today, as was my driver. But my irons really are where the room for improvement is, and where the stroke reductions will come from.

The only consistency in golf is one’s lack thereof.

36pts yesterday in very strong wind and a brief hammering of rain.
8 fairways hit, 6 greens. 34 putts (41 last week). Course at KH in mint condition and I’ve already seen a few big names on the sheet for rounds in the next little bit. IBF was there a few days ago, might get Rors out there.

With respect PN that is the kind of attitude that can put off beginners. I could walk onto my course - which has as snooty a membership(at least a decent proportion of them) as one might find anywhere - wearing a baseball cap and no one would care.

Maybe a more constructive comment to our mate might be to be conscious of pace of play. Something like pick up once you get to triple bogey - unless there is absolutely no one behind you.

Oh, I didn't take peternorth's comment as if there was an issue with my style of headwear - more about it being a Boston Celtics hat.

PN and I have a long history of Lakers/Celtics rivalry. :D

Rightio!

I think some clubs - especially one down south that tries to make itself seem extra clubby, because it isn’t really one 😀- are extra keen to enforce dress codes.

Firstly, what is a baseball cap?

I did say the greens were good, and yes some of the short par4s were great, but I still didn’t go wow when I stood on any tees. Just the way I am I suppose, like visual stimulation to get me excited about the course.
For example when I played PK Nth with PN, I reckon I let out about 15 wow’s as I stood on the tees.
Just like Royal Qld atm, just doesn’t do it for me at all.

To be fair Also you’re a man of the dunes. Which has natural flora and beauty. And undulations. Compared to parkland courses in the suburbs which are flat.
