I DID IT!!!!!!
After 35 years I finally hit par for 18 holes.
Played the back 9 1st, was 3 under at the turn, dropped 4 shots in 3 holes, missed a golden birdie chance on 6 from 4 feet. I thought I'd blown it, that was a choke. I decelerated the club head and didn't make the distance. Parred the next two and stood on 18 (9th) tee needing a birdie. Drive was perfect, 3w was perfect, maybe 30m short of the green. Pitch went maybe 25m and I drained the putt for birdie and an even par 72. I'm absolutely stoked.
29 putts, 4 birdies. A bucket load of good shots.
I'm so happy, it's literally a dream come true. Nailing that last putt has been a lifetime of work.

Played yesterday and today.

Yesterday. 79. Three doubles. No birdies. Good not great.

Today. Started with a double bogey after topping a drive. Three birdies. 73. One over. Also missed three 6-8 foot birdie putts (all with decent breaks), but made about six 8-10 footers plus a 40 footer for birdie.

12 over Waterford Valley today. 11/14 fairways. 8 greens in reg. 34 putts...no 3 putts woohoo...9 putts better than last week with the zero torque putter so that is promising. Feels very good. No birdies. Got a few up and downs with the new wedge...missed a few as well.

My bucket list is a night with olivia munn and kendell jenner.

Golf in Japan.
Started at 5.10, out of the hotel for the 5.29 local from Shinjuku to Chiba. Arrived at Chiba at around 6.40, 35 min or so wait, then another 40 min train to Togane Station. 12 or so minute cab ride to HigashiChiba Country Club.
Checked in scorecard holder and key for the locker room given over and in to change. First time wearing pants on a golf course, also had a thermal shirt, golf shirt, jumper and jacket, and a beanie. 0 degrees at about 9.00am.
Head out of the club rooms to see the equipment bloke to get my clubs and couple of tokens for the driving range. 300 yen for 25 balls, about 3 bucks, Grabbed 2 of them. Bloke grabs the clubs, takes them to the cart and put them on the back for me.
Range is a little bit of a walk away, grab a driver, utility wedge and a 6, off I go. Range is flat for about 160m, then trails off up a hill, with trees creating a narrow alley giving a nice aim point.
Back up to the gathering area, bit of a problem, carts not there. Carts here there and everywhere, can't find it; off to the equipment bloke to find out what number it was.
Sorted, find it and find my playing group, 3 Japanese blokes, 0 English, me limited Japanese.
Odd to the first tee - very nervous as only gaijin I've seen at the club. 3 partners hit fairways, starter watching, another group behind watching. Nail it - straight down the middle.
2 pars to start, thinking I'm on here.
Next 2 holes, both 3 putts for doubles.

So 4 over after 4, disappointed with the two 3 putts on the previous 2 holes, but still confident I can play bogey golf.
Ice still on the ground, so cart path only, no range finder, so relying on the garmin watch, and not sure about the greens. Japanese courses have 2 greens per hole, 1 for summer/spring, 1 for winter/autumn I'm guessing. Greens were concrete hard, and I was thinking they were astro turf.
Per 5 5th, again nail the drive, 6 iron for the next shot, up the middle. Blind to the green, however garmin showing a bunker 150 away, just short of the green. Play safe, hit a soft 7 to get it about 130 up the fairway. Over the hill, there a bunker 30 or so short of the bunker shown on the garmin, and I'm in the middle of it. Garmin hadn't picked this one up as it was guarding the summer green.
Grabbed the utility wedge, easy enough to chip it out of the rock hard bunker, over a hill to run it up on to the green.Over the hill, bugger in the bunker that was 150. Chipped on.
Problem, old mate had forwarded the cart to the next hole, so Noel's going to putt with the wedge. Not bad first one, didn't quite read the slope at the front of the hole, back down it comes. 3 more putts with the wedge for a 9, and suddenly 8 over.
Profuse apologies from the fella for moving the cart on. /Plenty of 'daijoubus' from me.
Next hole, missed my first fairway, only by a couple of feet, but hitting off ice is a bit different. Little wayward into water, recovered all right for a double.
Par 4, down the middle, then a terrible slice into trees. 4 to get out, a 9.
Next a par 3, very much like the 16th at Araluen. Sun was out, heating up to about 3 degrees. Beanie off, cap on. Hit the green, 10 feet away. Get to the green, there's a divot. Not astroturf, just frozen. 2 putt par.
Double on the 9th to end a frustrating first 9.
Cart then crawled to the clubhouse, given a slip to tell us what time we're teeing off on the 10th. Clean the shoes, upstairs to the dining room. Tempura prawns for me, with salad, miso and rice.
Google translate came out and had a good laugh with my 3 playing mates.

Would you describe playing a frozen course as fun/enjoyable? Or more in the 'golf experience ' category? I've played golf in Darwin in November and it's definitely the latter.

4 over on the back 9 tonight. Generally comfortable with the round after the highs of Wednesday. Still hitting the majority of shots and putts well. A couple of mistakes but that ok.

18 over at half time, not really how I drew it up. Aim now, bogey golf, keep it under triple figures. Plan was to keep away from trouble at all costs. Used the 18 birdies app to give me a view of every hole.
First 6 holes followed the same script - driver off the tee hitting fairway, jump out of the cart with my 6, utility wedge and putter. 6 bogies in a row, solid, safe golf, couple of putts had've dropped could be going really well.
16th, par 3, GIR, 2 putt, you beauty, bit of breathing space, sub 100 looking good.
17th, hit the fairway again, 170ish to the green, bunker 30 short of the green. Big dip in the fairway, lots of space to the left where the fairway leads up to the summer hole.
Changed the formula, got the 8 out rather than use the utility wedge, which had been working a treat btw, to get me a bit closer. Went slightly right, unfortunately a rather severe drop to the right into dirt and trees. Anyway, quadrupled it.
18th, par 3, needed a birdie, bogeyed, 101.
Slow cart drive back to the clubhouse, staff come out, grab and wipe down the clubs, over I went to clean the shoes.
Into the change rooms, strip down, then into the onsen. Bliss.
Get dressed, go to the front desk and ask to get a taxi ordered. Told to wait in the foyer. 20 minute wait, I'm thinking somethings been lost in translation here. Yep, a miscommunication, sorted quickly, taxi arrived in about 10 minutes.
Back to Shinjuku at about 8 o'clock, long day.
Cost - $70 to Golf in Japan to find and book the course, $120 for the round, including hire clubs, cart, lunch, onsen.
Well worth it, beautiful course, lots of fun, undulations, dog legs, trees in fairways and a bit of water.

Golf really is insane. Played terribly yesterday in the wind and scraped around in 81 with no birdies and a double.

Struggled with ball striking all day and putting was inconsistent.

Calmer conditions today and shoot 72. Again choking on the 18th to three putt bogey for one over.

I know this sounds ridiculous but had four birdies and an eagle after hitting a six iron to ten feet on the 11th. Unfortunately also had seven bogeys so no idea what to make of it.

I know I'm late, but HELL YEAH dude what a round.

7 over today. Don't want to sound like a knob but felt like I played better than that.
Hit 12 GIR, drove beautifully, but 35 putts. Left a few short and x2 par putts hit the hole without dropping. Used a Ping 440 LST from the proshop which I'll go into on the equipment page.
Game is pretty solid ATM.

Nah - improvement typically manifests by improved scores of say 4-5 shots as one part of your game takes a step forward. This is your new normal.

Here is the light-fingered little fella. He did abandon the ball. After dropping it and having a roll on it. I guess mediocre golf does have a scent.

Saturday Comp 84 off the stick. Hcp was reduced to 15 after last week, so a 69 nett. Winner finished with a 60 nett. I was disappointed with my hcp being reduced from 27 to 15 but I think I played better with the added pressure of a lower hcp.

I think I can get down to 10 which is my next goal.

Something crazy happened on the 7th par 4. I'll try to explain. I've attempted a bump and run from 50m. Playing partners ball is 20m in front of me. I've hit a nice little bump, it's cannoned into the partners ball upon landing, his ball has then proceeded to roll 25m onto the green, then it kept going........ right into the bloody hole!!!!!

We had never seen anything like it. I thought perhaps rub of the green came into place and maybe he should be awarded the eagle. Wiser heads prevailed, he replaced the ball to where he thought it was and proceeded.

Once back at the clubhouse it caused a fair bit of debate. The rulebook was found and the wiser head had made the correct decision in replacing his ball. Good fun!!!!

Similar to my ball being pinched by a fox and me replacing it without penalty, your ball was the fox. An "outside influence".

If you are regularly shooting around the 15 over mark with only a few cards in, your mark should go a lot lower.

Sure is - would be quite the loss (albeit they are suggesting only a partial divestment).

Cerberus less so.
