I'll post again on this one shortly re: Qld .....

But my wife's uncle from WA was over last week .... had a great chat to him about that WA league .... he's a diehard "swannies" man! .... we got to crapping on about some of the real hard bastards he's seen .... he mentioned a couple which mean nothing to me, but reckons Ron Boucher(?) could an "equalizer" when he had to be. Also some brothers called the Narkles(sp?) were mentioned.

Any info on these blokes or others ?

Ron Boucher was a real tough guy in the 80's.
He was only 6'2 or 6'3 but played in the ruck. He was also a marshall arts man of some repute so not a man to be trifled with!
One of my favourite memories of footy was a state of origin game In 84 or 83 where he got a game. The entire last 1/4 he rucked against Roger Merrett. At each centre bounce they charged like 2 grumpy Rhino's at each other - neither actually touched the ball at any of the bounces so intent were they on killing each other! W.A won that game by a couple of points. The Narkle brothers weren't tough guys but were brilliant players . Younger brother Phil played for St Kilda & West Coast wore a helmet. Keith the older brother was probably the most accurate kick I ever saw.
But the toughest (maddest) was Basil Campbell from South Freo - He was mad the worst sufferer of white line fever ever as he was a gentleman off the field. In the 1st SOO game in 77 he belted the bejusus out iof Don Scott. He put players in hspital regularly.
He also near killed Jacko when he was a teamate for making racist remarks.

Marnoo once had a defender by the name of Pickthall.

His nickname was 'Nails'.

That answer your question?

Still in the Lexton Football League. Langi Kal Kal prison fielded a team at one stage, known just as Kal Kal. I wasn't around at that time, but after Kal Kal ceased as a footy club, Lexton FC continued to recruit folks from the aforementioned correctional facility. They were 'hard sonsuvs'.

But here's the best of the snippets I know, a direct quote from a history book, referring to the Ararat District Football Association :

1975 - ADFA - Donny Aldersea sparked plenty of interest when he set the league goalkicking record. His 175 goals is impressive enough, but the feat is lent added lustre by the fact he was one of four players to emerge from Ararat prison every Saturday to play for Caledonians. Aldersea later went a step further by coaching Prestige while he was imprisoned.

Wouldn't be free for quids!!!
