I've had just the one really weird thing with sleep/dreams.. 'Woke' up in the middle of the night, looked up towards the corner of my bedroom ceiling and there was a 'creature' stuck up there, like massive spider legged thing with a head and face looking down at me. Got up ran out out the door and then bang woke up properly, half about yell out. It was like I was dreaming whilst awake or something,. Interesting as a once of but it would really suck for someone that had that happen to them regularly.

Howdy. I have 'awake dreams' as I call them quite often. It is literally sometimes a dream super-imposed over the real life setting of my room or wherever I'm sleeping. I've had some fairly horrible ones of people I know being in my room looking to hurt me, and my room is actually there, I know it's there, I know it's not a dream room, it's just that there's another image or visual that is apart of it. It's frighteningly realistic at times, and as silly as it sounds, there's been a couple of times when I've been unsure if certain dialogue I've had with my girlfriend early hours in the morning actually happened or not. In saying that, I'm not the happiest of people and I sleep very little, so our experiences may be of different things.

I've got two stories.

I was seeing a girl and after a while she told me that her house was haunted and that she didn't like it there at all, she said that windows and doors would open and shut when she was there on her own. I'm open to the idea of ghosts etc but I just fobbed this off. Later one friday night we went out, we had drinks at home and the coffee table in front of the couch was littered with empty cans. We headed out and then came home, not content the night was over we cracked open a few more drinks and sat on the couch. In front of us on the coffee table, a can of Guinness started to move, it went from side to side, nearly tipping right over on it's side each time it went down. We sat there, close enough to touch it, watching it move from side to side about 14 times getting quicker and quicker until it came to a complete stop. None of the other cans which surrounded it moved. I tried different ways to reproduce this but there was no way of tilting it over that much without it laying on it's side, let alone it being able to come back up. After that I heard the odd noise, like dishes clinking in the kitchen. It wasn't long before she moved out.

The sleep paralysis thing is interesting and terrifying. I had two instances of it, both times the "dream" was set in my current reality. I was in bed, I sat up staring at my window expecting to see something, a light flashed and I saw a silhouette staring back at me, i then woke up sitting up in bed staring out the window unsure if it was real or not. I then realised in my dream state the curtain was open where as it was actually closed, only way I was to know it was in my head. The second time i was lying in my bead and stuff was going on outside my bedroom door. Noise, lights flashing and i was paralysed, unable to move as hard as I tried. Eventually I woke up and flew out of the bed with force, nothing was going on and I realised I had had another episode of this. Funnily enough I told my girlfriend of the time about it. Later after telling her this we went to bed. She had just fallen asleep and suddenly woke up frightened, she had had her first sleep paralysis episode/scary dream set in current reality episode. Talk about the power of suggestion! The other time I was paralyses was during a dream where I ended up being shot in the head from point blank. So much for not being able to die in your dreams. Everything went blank, I felt a mild pain around my stomach and i was paralyses. Eventually it faded and I was able to wake up. I don't see this as paranormal but it has come up a lot on this thread.

I call bullshit.

Another 'paranormal' thing that happened to me happened roughly 2 years before that last story(early 2001), my parents had split up roughly a year or so earlier when we were living in Melbourne, after that my mum, sister and I all moved back to Adelaide. While we were staying at my Aunty and Uncles house I was sleeping on the floor in the loungeroom, my sister was sleeping on the couch nearby. I woke up one morning while it was still fairly dark, I saw this dark round shape in front of my face, at the time I thought it was my sisters head, and she was taking the piss out of me and trying to wake me up, so i tried to swat her away and my hand went straight through it. I was a bit surpised by that so I popped my head up as the dark shape floated over to where my sister was still asleep(It was like a spherical black cloud, with wispy edges), it stopped briefly in front of her face(However she didn't wake up) and then floated around the corner into the kitchen. I got up and followed it into the kitchen(probably 10-15 seconds behind it) but there was nothing in there.

I've heard people describe poultergheists similarly to that.

Straight up I don't really believe in ghosts or anything paranormal like that. But this is a story that happened to myself and a few mates back in eithe late 2009 or early 2010.

I joined the navy and completed my initial corse training at HMAS Cerberus on the Mornington Peninsula South East Victoria. There was this place we used to go for BBQ's and drinks and to just get away and bum around. It was a little clearing that led to a beach. It was a pretty decent hike to get there from the road. There was a dirt road you could drive down but we'd normally just walk there from base and just camp on the beach with a fire.

We were all pretty sure the fire was illegal so we used to get a bit paranoid about cops coming and telling us off so as soon as we heard anything we'd automatically freak out thinking it was cops.

Anyone one night we were down there. There was about 6 of us (all guys). Two of my mates went for a walk to this old submarine base that was about a five minute walk away. Anyway there were gone for ages and we could hear talking and whispering in the bush behind us. At first we thought it was cops and kind of hit behind trees and stuff. No one emerged on the beach so then we started thinking maybe it was some locals. We tried to sneak up behind the whispers and voices to see who it was but the more we walked around the more the voice seemed to be surrounding us. We started freaking out thinking we were going to get robbed or something and ran back to the beach. One of our mates was asleep on the beach. we didnt even notice that we left him there. We decided that we should get our other mates from the subs base and bring them back here. I went with another mate and headed to the sub base. After about 300meters into the bush we could see shadows moving and the voices were back. We ran at the shadows but they would just vanish when we got to where they were. Then we'd look around and they would be moving around behind us. Then we could hear the voice above us in the trees. We ran to the sub base and saw our mates. They said that they had heard people in the sub base with them but after walking around they could not find any body. We told them about what happened to us and then ran back to the beach.

When we got back there was no one there. We called out to our mates and one came. He said that he went for a piss and when he came back our mate that was asleep on the ground had vanished when he got back. There were no foot steps or anything around the place apart from the ones that were clearly ours. And it didnt even look like he had gotten up as there were no marks in the sand apart from the spot that he was lying in. We started to really freak out and then went looking for him. We thought he might of walked back to base and then started running up the road trying to catch him off. After getting about half way we decided if he was walking back we would of caught up to him by now so we went back to the beach and there he was, asleep in the exact same spot he was in before as if he had never moved. We were more annoyed than anything else and when we woke him up to ask where the hell he had been he just started screaming.

Eventually he stopped and calmed down and we were like what the hell is wrong? He said he had no idea, apart from the fact that he just didnt feel ok about anything. And he wanted to go back to base. He didnt want to be on the beach. He wouldn't say why though, just that he didn't feel right being there.

The whole way back we could still hear the voice and whispering around us and above us and it really felt like we were being watched.

Horrible night really lol we never went back there again after that night.
Most likely wind.

I just saw a flying object in bentleigh I can't explain. Maybe 30 mins ago.

I saw a bright light shoot upwards really fast from my window which made me pay attention to it. It then dimmed and moved around really strangely before going bright again and heading downwards and out of sight.

Was like no other thing Ive seen in the sky in real life.

Im thinking it might have been kids with a toy helicopter. Possibly some sort of drone, possibly some army helicopter or a legit u.f.o

Possible launching of homemade missile

A friend of mine has one of those little drone copters he uses to ferry his GoPro camera around, it's pretty cool but it freaks out the neighbourhood kids and I'm fairly sure he was in a bit of trouble for flying it around in the city, haha.
Might've been someone flying one of those things around.

MH370?

I haven't had anything as exciting as some of these stories, but one experience when I was about 18 has stuck with me all this time, still as clear in my head as the night it happened.

I was back visiting my folks when I woke one night to see a shapeless, smoky white form floating above me like a mini-cloud. Now plenty of times I've woken up and been startled by some weird image or strange shape only to blink and realise it was just a shadow or something thrown over a chair, but this was different. I felt instantly awake and completely calm.

I stared at this thing for what felt like ages but was probably only 15 seconds or so, not moving a muscle except an occasional blink which I expected would dissipate what I was seeing, but it floated there looking exactly the same as the second I opened my eyes. Eventually it started drifting slowly towards the hallway wall my bed was pushed up against. Still assuming it was a trick of my eyes I looked back to the original spot expecting the cloud to move with my eyes, but it kept drifting towards the wall in my peripheral vision.

I watched it very slowly disappear through the wall then lay there completely awake for about an hour afterwards pondering what I'd seen. After reading this thread it sounds like some form of sleep paralysis, but it's certainly nothing like I've ever experienced before or since. Perhaps the strangest part is the overwhelming feeling of calm it gave me; even thinking back to it now brings a strange calmness over me.

Sleep paralysis is a whole different kettle of fish to a normal dream though.

It's kind of like you are dreaming with your eyes open and are semi conscious, not conscious enough to properly control yourself but conscious enough to be aware of your surroundings. It's also like the part of your brain that formulates dreams is in complete control and as in dreams adds all sorts of crazy stuff to your reality and also just so happens to render yourself paralyzed and unable to move around sometimes in this half actual reality half brain manufactured reality that you are in.

Either way it's usually an unpleasant experience and does not always come with being paralysed, though when your moving it's hard to say if you are controlling it or not.

In my experience these episodes usually involve some kind of paranormal entity like lights flashing in the next room, noise, footsteps or a flash of light with a strange figure staring at you. The sort of stuff that you'd expect to come from hollywood in a good horror movie.

That or it's possession! :p
