Trying to make threads to get this forum off the ground here...But i thought we could all share some of our Greatest achievments (heh)

Well being a slightly in experienced player, dont play for money online, dont make enough (just a uni student) to justify playing real money for experience either, i only play freerolls online and little money games with mates.

Was in a UK open satellite on pacific, The top 10 in a field of 2000 qualified for the next round (a $10+1 2nd round satellite) played from 2am thinking ill get knocked out early...Anyway 2 hours later i had won the thing and at 4am i had my seat into the next tourney starting....6 hours later!!

So i dragged myself out of bed and found me in a 24 player tourney with the top 2 winning a final qualifier seat ($100 +10) blearly eyed but with early morning coke to get me up i began this tournement carefully and waited for my spots...i soon doubled up with poket 7's V's A3 of clubs and was in a very solid position...We got to the final table and i was chip leader with about 10k worth of chips, When the person to my left tripled up knocking out 10th and 9th position (3rd place won $30 which i was just as happy to win considering i had $0 in my account at the time) so out come the cards...KK...i had the dealer button and the pot had been raised as it came to me and i re-raised i was called by the person to my left who had me on chips by about 3k and the original raiser folded so it was just us....I watched the flop come KJJ..i decided to check the nuts (unless he had JJ :D ) and he went all in, Naturally i called and he turned over J10...so right now there was only 1 jack in the deck that could save him.

Im sitting there about to double up through the chip leader and become chip leader and a clear position to at least win the $30 for finishing 3rd...>Turn comes a 4...Nice, he's drawing at like 2% and then the Dagger...the final Jack comes on the River...ive never been so devastated in my life! i was out finishing 7th and this guy went on to win...

So theres my favourite (or most outrageous) story...Share your bad beats, Big wins and other tales here!...Gooooooo Poker!

Yeah earlier this year, I got into poker and first had a go at empirepoker didnt really know any rules such as the blinds and that, but about 2 weeks of some solid playing, picked them up.

then hit ultimatebet and had a go at their torunaments, remember coming like 700th in one which had probs 2000 people, 2nd tournament i remember getting a royal flush of hearts, still have the foto on my fone. For Memory i came around 300th

The 3rd Tournament I was in solid position early, then left my computer for about 45 mins, but remained playing(posting blinds), I then started playin again got to the final table, was so wrapped with the effort, played safely and watched the others get knocked out
got to final 3
all pretty even
then other dude nkocked this dude out, down to 2, im on like 400000 hes on like 1.8mill, and i just kept folding waiting for a hand, hes like can u please hurry i have to go to work.
im like nope you can wait, he then just sat out and i just collected his blinds and after about 10 mins i was the winner
i picked up like 105 bonus dollars not sure what they mean but yeh it was the ighlight of my poker career.

That'll happen a fair few times, but you made the correct call in folding those hands.

As far as a poker story goes, last night some jackass began stalking me online after I called his all-in with Ace high and busted him out of a sit and go. I don't think he could ever get over it - he kept following me from table to table harrassing me.

I raised pre-flop with A-Ks and hit nothing on the flop. I checked it to him and he raised all-in with a pretty hefty stack, though I was chip leader. I'd had a read on him all game and felt that my hand was indeed the best. And it was. He flipped over nothing and I took home the pot, busting him in the process, and saying "easy call". Perhaps a bit cocky, but I don't think I deserved to be harrassed all night, Lol.

That's a tough break, but whenever I fold I try my best to forget what I had. Seriously, try doing that. It may save you a lot of pain! :D
Anyway, my story was a time when someone I know organised a poker night with 21 people. We had three tables with seven on each. We played two games for the night, the first was just a table game where the winner from each table got $50 and second place got $30 (which I won - my first win ever...I'm a newbie). After that we started from scratch and had another game where the top two from each table went to the final table.
Anyway, in the final game we were only a few hands in and I had K,7 in my hand. On the table was K, 7, J, J at the turn and one of the guys calls all in. This guy was a deadset bunny and had been making ridiculous bluffs all night. So I call him figuring that my two pair should hold up. We flip our cards and he's got a full house - Jacks full of sevens. Because we were only a few hands in I was pretty much all in on this hand (started with 60 chips, a loss would've left me with less than 10). Sure enough the river comes up - K. I end up with a full house kings full of sevens. Between our four cards and the five on the table there was only 7, J and K. :D

Just cut and pasted from the forum HighRoller tried to get going

Hey guys just thought i would share a hand i just won on Pokerstars with you
$1 $2 blinds N/L i'm dealt Ace Spades 9 Hearts in late position.
All callers and i raise to $6
Everybody except BB and SB fold
Flop comes 6 Hearts, Ace Clubs, 8 Hearts
Small blind bets $6 BB and i call
Turn comes 5 Hearts, both check and i bet $6 both call.
River comes 7 Hearts Small blind goes all in around $22
Bigblind calls and i go all in $36
Bigblind calls me
Small blind turns over Ace of Hearts giving him ace high flush
BB turns over kc 4 Hearts giving straight flush
I have Ace spades 9 Hearts giving me higher straight flush

All up around $152 pot
BB calls me a river rat and leaves the table and me with a big smile.
Only dissapointing thing is BB had $400 and i only had $32 left to play with
Played for another hour and left with a profit of $220 for the night

my best story is two weekends ago i was playing 1/2 LHE two tabling on Absolute Poker and i was having a great session. I was already about $200 up when im dealt Jd 10d and limp in from the SB

Flop comes 6h Kd Qd

Ok so i have an OESD and a flush draw and i bet out with a few callers

Turn is the Ad

OMG! a royal flush haha first one ever i just check it around it then gets raised and i raise it up again still a few people in the pot

River is a Jh

This card completed someones straight and i think another guy has a flush they both bet into me and we cap the betting woot! SEND IT!

About a $45 dollar pot plus the AP Royal FLush bonus of $100 my way

Oh and did i mention i also won a Free T-Shirt saying Absolute Poker Royal Flush club! LOL (im still waiting on the shirt btw)

You probably made the right move here. I would question a call on the flop with middle-pair, unless he was a calling station.

BB calls me a river rat

That's funny. Didn't he also make his straight flush on the river? And what the hell was he calling with on the flop? Lol

Ahhh I hate idiots in poker.

Started a tourny and this guy went all in for the first 3 hands. No body called him.

4th deal comes down and I get pocket 10s and call him. He has Kc 8d. Flop comes down 2d 10h 9d. Next up is Ad and of course the river is Jd giving this idiot a flush and knocking me out.

ARRGH so frustrating! But now I just got a full house and won $1 playing on the $0.01 $0.02 tables.

my story only just happened, was playing a free money sit and go on absolute poker. I limped in to the final two, but was a massive dog, the chip leader had $19,200 worth of chips, i had only $800. I was in the big blind, which represented half of my chips - and got dealt K Q hearts, so i figure, this is probably going to be my best bet, go all in. Won it with the Ace of hearts on the river...lol

I doubled up a couple more times, and before i knew it, i was just in front by about $400

Then, in the big blind, i get deal a 4 5 off suit, the other guy only called, so i limped in. Flop comes down A 2 3 ... i slowplayed, checked to him, and he bet my twice the big blind, so i raise him all in.... he calls, with A 3 - i couldnt believe it, id managed to overhaul more than $19000 in chips to win the tournament....lol!

I've done that a few times. I was once damaged to the point of having to go all-in on the BB only to come back to win the sit and go. I'd say resilience is a strong point of mine. Doesn't matter how many or how little chips I have, I still believe I can win.

Lol, that's why I fold anything except AA, KK or AKs first hand in - or until the idiots get it out of their system.

hehe yeah i usually do the same but everyone was getting ********ed and I thought 'these are good enough'.

Worst thing was, after i got trip 10's I typed in 'good' only to get f*ed on the river. Quickly left the table.

I always fold the first hand in a Tournament because some idiots alwayd go all - in. But in a way it is good because you want players eliminated.

Anyway here is my story from last night...

I was playing at www.holdempoker.com and went into a Tournament in which the buy in is - $3000 + $300.

Prize Pool

1st - $15 000
2nd - $9000
3rd - $6000

You start off with $1500. I folded the first hand like usual and won the 2nd hand so was on around $2300.

It came down to the last 4 players. I was sitting 4th with only $1000ish. 3rd and up all had around $3000-4000. Someone got eliminated so I was guaranteed $6000 at least. I'm still on $1000ish. Then 1st knocks out 2nd so I'm guaranteed $9000 now. Still on $1000ish.

1st was on $14 000ish
Me - $1000ish

Then, I start winning the pots and closing the lead. I got to $4000 and they had $11 000 still. Then I won a big pot to take the lead by a few hundred dollars. Then we were equal for a while. Then they went all in so I called figuring if I lost I'll still get $9000 and I think I had a pair of something.

Anyway, I won the $15 000 from nowhere.

My night kept going along nicely last night as in total I won around $40 000. :thumbsu:

While its frustrating with the early tourney all-in merchants it's also a great chance to double up when you hit a premium pair or have somthing like AK.
Silly players wreck the game because some fool can triple his money early just because he is prepared to go all-in for the first few hands.
You generally catch and burn these guys later on and they are not much more than an ATM in the final tables when they come up against good players with decent stacks.

Was playing in a 45 man, $5 entry sit and go on Stars last night. In good chip position

In the SB and got dealt 8,6s. Flop comes 5,7,9. Got the straight
UTG made a small bet which I raised. BB and UTG remained which was fine by me.
Next card is a 10. Even better
UTG bet again, I re-raised again, BB folded.

Once BB folded thought I was home. I mean who stays in a hand with these flopped cards unless you were in the blinds !!!!
Figured UTG to have high overcard pair or AK, AQ.

River card is a 5.

UTG bets again. He must be bluffing I figured so raised all in. He called and turned over 5,10s. Full house.

WTF !!!!!
Who even plays a hand with 5,10s ????

Very, very frustrating playing online sometimes.

One thing you have to be very weary of is when the board pairs up like in this case with the 5's that someone may be holding a set already or in this case two pair. You should have been betting a hefty amount once you hit your straight after the flop which would have caused this guy to fold his crappy pair of 5's i would think.

I hear what you're saying but have to disagree.
The straight was easily the best hand after the flop and was basically unbeatable unless someone had a 5,7 or 9. Normally players who play with these cards are in one of the blind positions so therefore the only player I had to be wary of was the BB.

Of course there was the chance that UTG had 55, 77 or 99 but if he did he would have re-raised my re-raise after the flop. He didn't so was confident that he had high overcards or a high pair. My thought was he had KQ or something similar.

If I'd gone all in after the flop, all I would have picked up was the blinds and UTG's small opening raise. That is not getting good value for good cards.

And who knows, a player who is bad enough to play with 5,10s might have been bad enough to call in in with his pair of 5s

Nobody likes bad beat stories.

Playing in $5 tourney, approximately 190 players paying top 10.

was up to about 4th with 10000, went all in with AK, up against J10, hit the K on the flop, opponent backdoored a flush on the river, down to approx 1500 chips.

Went on an absolute tear to get it to 20000 chips playing attacking poker to be chip leader with 50 players remaining, fell to about 15000 getting my hand caught in the cookie jar a couple of times.

Up comes AK again, same player as before (also aggressive) with 17000 chips raises to 1000 from 200 blind. Another player calls I go all in, player A calls with QK, hits the Q on the river. :( again.

Though it must be said I did hit a 7 with A7 v AQ when I was down to a couple of thou.

I played in a Freeroll last night on PokerChamps (1500 players) The top 28 get paid...

$35 pool prize.

I started off average but won a few big hands early to get up to 8000ish and was in the top 20 for most of the night...I knocked out a few players as well to win pots over $10 000 to get up to $40 000 myself at one stage. At the break I was around 15th with $35 000 (about 120 players remaining) I knew I would get very close to 28th and win money so I played it safe but still won enough to not let the blinds affect me.

Eventually there was 29 left and I was on about $34 000 still so I was safe to win a dollar so once there was 28 left I felt relieved and didn't bother about my placing because from 4th to 28th won a dollar.

I came 20th and won myself $1 in real money :thumbsu: :D :thumbsu: Now I can use that to get more...

Not a personal story but I was playing at Burswood Casino a few weeks ago, I got a crap hand of 8 and 2 and didnt even bother to look at the flop, Anyway flop was A J Q, then there was a flurry of betting by bout 10 ppl which ended in bout a 400 pot, next card was J, another huge flurry then came 7, 3 people went all in, leaving a pot of about 1500, one guy had 3 J, one had 3 Q and the other had 3 A, it was crazy betting, One guy lost like 500 bucks, he was crying.

Odd hand that one

The guys with 3 J and 3 Q deserve to be crying. They are terrible hands to play.

I played 4/8 holdem at Crown on Friday night, walked away with a tidy $700 profit after 10 and a half hours work.

I don't know if it's a record but there were some people mightily impressed/unimpressed with my chip stack.

Well done.

There are some truly terrible players at those low limit tables at Crown. Especially on Friday nights when the office workers come in after having had a few drinks.

A few simple rules I follow at these tables.

1. You cannot bluff. Don't even try and get away with it. Someone will always call.
2. Kick away any cards lower than 10s. Even paired cards. Because there are usually at least 4 players seeing the flop, its more than likely someone will pair up a picture card.
3. Never play if you are UTG unless you have AA, KK, QQ, AKs, AQs or AK. There are at least 2 re-raises normally and you don't want to be calling a big hand UTG with a medium hand.

I'm sure you've got it sussed anyway.

4. Try to be unpredictable.

The thing that got me the most chips was I had everybody sussed, they were all fairly predictable. If you know what they're doing and they don't know what you're going you have the advantage.

Here's the table where i won most of my chips. Starting from player on my left.

P1. Strong, but will push anything from 2nd pair all the way to the river, worth calling if you have top pair and definitely worth a re-raise on the river. Had 5-5 caught a 5 on the flop, called down to the river, re -raised, $100+ pot. If I had signalled strength early he was gone.

P2. Complete knob who liked to raise, never bet when he was in the pot because i knew his chips were coming, left the re-raises to the $8 mark and he paid me a lot of chips.

P3. Hard to read because he didn't know what he was doing, about 8 times he thought he had the pot when he didn't, I just kept betting against this bloke when I had a good hand.

P4. Took it as a personal affront every time I raised and just had to call, loved him, though he did catch 2 rivers in monster pots to take $200+ off me.

P5. Tight, if he bet I knew he had a good hand, best to fold unless 2 pair minimum. At on stage must hav gone 90 minutes without betting.

P6. Beginner, liked to see everything, caught a couple of good hands too but playing too many crap cards caught up with him. I took a lot of pots off him with 2nd pair etc. I din't know what he was doing and neither did he and neither of us seemed to care.

P7. Compulsive bluffer, if I flopped something I checked, he bet I won.

P8. Solid, tread warily.

Basically the theory was break even with the solid players and rip the poor players.

and be aggressive, if you have the flush draw on the flop, bet it, it comes up 40% of the time and your putting in 25% of the chips most of the time. Raise pre flop with most decent hands, you'll get bitten but the odds are good and it chases the solkid players away leaving the readables, and when you have a monster they will call, that goes with the bluff theory too, show heads up that you will bluff and every man and his dog will be calling your monsters.

O and I got a lot of good cards too ;)

and play later at night and don't drink
