I know many are lamenting the remaining teams left, same old same old, but I'm still pretty excited about the matchups. There isn't much in the prelim battles imo, although Geelong and Collingwood deserved favourites.
As for matchups:
Geelong vs Brisbane: my worry is it will be a repeat of the QF, unless Fagan's Lions really learn from that game and bring heat similar to last year's grand final. Can they also bring the footy IQ and accuracy? Can Brisbane's forwards break Geelong's brick wall?
Geelong vs Collingwood: my least preferred matchup, 2011 rematch. I feel Geelong are clearly above Collingwood and will stifle their rather meek forward line. Pies backline would need to be exceptional. Hill in might provide an x factor.
Collingwood vs Hawthorn: this might actually be a really good grand final. These two successful Victorian sides have never met in a grand final, so there would be a factor. They've traded wins and losses, with the last one the Hawks spanking them, but Pies have lifted again. Definitely my preferred non Lions gf matchup.
Brisbane vs Hawthorn: while the Lions have been good at the G, the Hawks area other proposition at home, and in the AFL era have only lost once to an interstate side in a granny (albeit one win was at Waverley). Actually feel it will be another very even battle. If I take out me wanting to give the Lions the best chance, I kind of might slightly prefer Coll Haw actually.
