I know many are lamenting the remaining teams left, same old same old, but I'm still pretty excited about the matchups. There isn't much in the prelim battles imo, although Geelong and Collingwood deserved favourites.

As for matchups:

Geelong vs Brisbane: my worry is it will be a repeat of the QF, unless Fagan's Lions really learn from that game and bring heat similar to last year's grand final. Can they also bring the footy IQ and accuracy? Can Brisbane's forwards break Geelong's brick wall?

Geelong vs Collingwood: my least preferred matchup, 2011 rematch. I feel Geelong are clearly above Collingwood and will stifle their rather meek forward line. Pies backline would need to be exceptional. Hill in might provide an x factor.

Collingwood vs Hawthorn: this might actually be a really good grand final. These two successful Victorian sides have never met in a grand final, so there would be a factor. They've traded wins and losses, with the last one the Hawks spanking them, but Pies have lifted again. Definitely my preferred non Lions gf matchup.

Brisbane vs Hawthorn: while the Lions have been good at the G, the Hawks area other proposition at home, and in the AFL era have only lost once to an interstate side in a granny (albeit one win was at Waverley). Actually feel it will be another very even battle. If I take out me wanting to give the Lions the best chance, I kind of might slightly prefer Coll Haw actually.

When Geelong aren't in it I basically barrack for justice these days.
Lions learnt from that QF and went onto win the SF. Also QF-GF rematches since 2000 have been flipped apart from 2018 unforunately
True, but I'm not sure last night counted as learning anything; rather they just did it all over again and the Suns couldn't stop them.

Heading into the series my big fear was beating them and then losing the rematch. I'm not so afraid of that now; the Lions are too banged up and, unlike the the other QF-GF rematches you may be thinking of, the QF wasn't even close.

Neutrals surely won't pick the two Big Vic clubs?

Collingwood vs Hawthorn is a neutrals nightmare

Think everyone will be happy to see Brisbane win to make it and play Cats.
QF rematch, two sides who have had battles across multiple Finals over the last 5 years.

Great rivalry as well. Would be like 2020. Lions going back-to-back (swap out Richmond), Geelong sending off a few veterans (Danger and Jez) on a high

Also an all-feline GF at the G for the first time since 1967

Lions Cats with Lions winning a close game.

It is my nightmare scenario Hawthorn Collingwood. Not sure I'd even watch because I think i would be physically sick throughout the game

Good thread.
I haven’t been this nervous since 2007/08. Losing to hawks or pies would be horrendous. Losing the prelim and potentially having a Hawks v Pies GF is the stuff of nightmares.

Would be nice to knock out Hawthorn finally and we’ve already beaten Collingwood in a GF so don’t need to go through that again.
So I’ll choose Cats v Lions.

Cats vs Lions is like 2003 and 2015 with the loser of the QF meeting again the GF. Hawks lost a QF by 32 points to WC in Perth and the Lions lost a QF by 38 points to Geelong in Melbourne before both bouncing back with big semi-final wins

Of the 3 other teams, I’m most confident of beating Geelong.

Cats have run through Pies in Finals to win each of their 4 AFL era Premierships.
What's one more hey ;)

Collingwood v hawks collingwood win the flag winning margin is 27 points same as their prelim winning margin

Geelong are the biggest villain left, so I'm surprised to see people voting for them vs Brisbane.

Hawthorn vs Collingwood is intriguing because both teams flogged one another this season, and it would be the deciding game. Also never met in a GF.

2010? *2019 (as alerted to me by my learned Pies fan).
Not sure 2022 was a convincing victory.

Pies just seem to cause the Cats problems more often than not.

I think we are better than the Cats and, if we both make the GF, I expect us to win by 5 goals.
