What are things you like/don't like about the place/town/city you live in?

Pros:

Climate - You get four distinct seasons.
Unlike other Australian cities which are just very hot to hot.

Summer is mild and usually very sunny long days.

Autumn can be quite pleasant as daylight savings ends in early April.
Gradually weather cools down and the autumn leaves look nice.

Winter is great and my favourite season.
Not to cold overnight 0-5 degrees generally.
Often snows on adjacent Mt. Wellington
Some days each year where it doesn't go above single digits.

Spring can be quite cool still and all the flora and fauna gradually come to life.

Friendly people -

Generally people are nicer in my experience as not as stressed and hurried.

Traffic - Doesn't take to long to travel around or find parking.

Good food and alcohol

Low crime rates

Cons - Does feel sometimes like everyone knows everyone.

Sport - While there is 3 AFL games here a season and plenty of cricket and tennis.
I wouldn't mind be able to attend A league matches as well.

Employment - Sometimes a lack of jobs.

Central Queensland (Boyne Island)

Pros:

shorts all year round
no more than ten minutes drive to anywhere
laid back lifestyle
little traffic
affordable housing
scenery

The only real con is not being able to go to the footy every weekend.

Pros:

- good weather for the most part
- beaches
- lifestyle
- multicultural and diverse - many excellent food options
- lots to do
- not too far from some great places - many beaches north and south, decent hikes to the west

Cons:

- tolls everywhere
- traffic
- incompetent and inconsiderate drivers
- housing prices and rent

South Perth:

Pros

- Central location/close to city, without being as congested as northern suburbs that are close to city
- Foreshore/parks/ovals, lots of nice greenery
- Good cafes and restaurants
- Low crime rate

Cons

- Price
- Full of senior citizens and young families

Perth in general:

Pros

- Beautiful nature
- Mild, enjoyable winter

Cons
- Summer is too hot and too long
- Exorbitant price for food/drink/services not in simpatico with the quality you receive

West Horsham

pros
Nowhere near El Dubya
Its West Horsham
West Horsham Oval
Farmers Union Iced Coffee
Villis Pies
Coopers Ale
Barossa Valley
McLaren Vale

Cons
Labor Government
Electricity supply
You really are a sad old prick. Villies and Farmer's Union are brilliant though. Used to love Cooper's, got over them after a while and their politics repel me.

west footscray.

pros:

close to the cbd and good public transport.

close to a good variety of cheap food.

diverse.

relatively cheap.

cons:

not a huge amount of good pubs.

for young people i really can't recommend west footscray enough.

6108.

Good neighbours, close to main roads, sufficient public transport, surprisingly low crime rate, and sometimes we even get Kookaburras in the local area (rare in the Perth metro area).

Only con is the amount of white trash. Fair few junkies around the shopping centre & Spencer Village

Pitt Meadows:

Pros:
- Up and coming neighbourhood that’s growing and becoming more interesting.
- Pretty much the same distance from work for wife and I.
- Walking distance to everything we need.
- We moved in summer. The last suburb we were in was starting to get a bit older and snobby. Kinda like that the new area is a mix of ages and a bit more middle-class.
- Traffic is also much better.
- We’re nestled between mountains and the Fraser river so it can’t grow too much.
- People are friendly.
- Got a good local brewery and golf courses.
- I have some good friends nearby.
- Weather is much milder compared to the rest of the province/country.
- Houses are somewhat more affordable compared to closer to the city.
- It’s fairly quiet. Not really any crime and it’s a good place to raise our kids.
- Some good farms nearby where we can get local meat, produce, honey etc.
- Quite a few tv shows/movies are filmed around here which can be interesting to check out.

Cons:
- In the suburbs a little bit.
- Only a few good local restaurants.
- The schools in the catchment are ok but not highly rated compared to other suburbs.
- No open fires are allowed (I was given a nice fire pit for our housewarming but can’t use it!)

Melbourne inner north:

Pro - not full of lame people, close to stuff, decent public transport, nightlife, urban olde housing charm.

Con - housing affordability is ****ed (though it's ****ed everywhere), zero chance of buying a home, Airbnb and the like have destroyed rental market. Not a long term place to live.

Little over Melbourne in general though I'd probably only leave to move overseas. Sydney is just a bigger Melbourne and I'm decades too young to want to move somewhere smaller with shittier jerbs.

Melbourne

Pros - So far from Perth.
- Do not have to drink tea with Adelaide water.
- So far from Sydney Funnel Web spiders.
- So far from rest of the World
- Best access to great sport in the world.
- Do not have to be concerned of Earthquakes, Cyclones, Tornadoes, Volcanoes, Mudslides or Weather below zero thick in snow and ice.

Cons - Bloody expensive for just about everything.
-Bushires outside Metro areas and into bush can be scary when gets close to or over 40 degrees and really windy.

Lanena

Pros
- space
- quiet
- beautiful views
- very little wind, even when everywhere else is copping it
- no one knows where it is

Cons
- none. I love it here!

Inglewood, Perth

Pros

Close to city so very central to everything

Quiet and safe suburb

Close to shops and public transport

Cheap enough

Cons

My neighbors are annoying asf

It's quite a snobby area where people think they are above you

Perth (South of the River)

Pros
- pretty close to city and road/rail (could survive without a car working in the CBD)
- have my own place that is relatively affordable by modern Australian cap city standards
- pretty close to the river
- mixed levels of density/development so it's not just a cookie cutter suburb like 3/4 of Perth
- close enough to the coast for someone like me who goes to the beach a few times each Summer (a 10-15min drive might get annoying if you go every day)
- tempting fate but there never seems to be any trouble nearby, I'm closer to worst house in the best street than best in the worst territory
- good schools in the area (doesn't affect me currently but is a drawcard to others)
- connects well via air to Asia and Africa/UAE

Cons
- no pub/restaurant precinct within walking distance (Vic Park, Mt Lawley etc)
- house is 50 years old and constantly needing minor work
- upgrading to a 4x2 family home or moving a few km closer to the city is a 100% price increase proposition
- connecting to the city and NOR is a bottleneck if the Freeway is jammed. From the Mt Henry to the Narrows you can only really exit at Canning Hwy or Mill Point Rd and they are about 5km apart. Going through Freo or South Perth/Vic Park to get North is a pain in the nuts.
- doesn't connect via air to the Americas
- time difference to the Eastern states (footy starting at 5.40pm etc)
- nowhere near any snow (trips to Falls, Hotham etc. from here cost a fortune)

Canberra

Pro:
- good services for a small city
- transport on the main routes is pretty good
- not crowded
- lots of greenery around everywhere

Cons:
- weather, minus 5 in winter I can handle, day after day of 38 in summer I can't. at least its not normally humid.
- the campaigners you guys fly in to populate the big top on the hill, seriously, learn to vote better (it took me ages to realise parliament house is shaped like a circus big top, complete with clowns - I wonder if that was deliberate on behalf of the architects)
- cost, renting anywhere liveable in this place is stupid expensive, not Sydney but terrible; and flights, just mad except around lunchtime
- doesn't affect me, but the very limited options for of bars and clubs would be a bummer for the under 25s
