There are no `own goals' in AFL, it is always paid as a behind regardless of whether the ball goes between the goal posts or the points.
Re the ump's signal as touched, I have never seen that situation happen where a player has kicked the ball through the oppo goal from so far out before, so I assume it was the correct one.
