I pulled the cord to start the lawn mower at precisely the same moment the deafening noise of F18 Jets hit as they flew overhead. Was in the midlands in England and had no idea they were flying through. Put my hands on my head and ducked for cover. Calmly resumed the task of mowing the lawns about 15 seconds later but for a few seconds there I thought I blew up the place.

don't care if it's a lie or now. i'm pissing myself over this. :D

anyway, i don't think i've been involved in anything serious. i'm pretty sure i might have mentioned this in another thread. but when i was working in the concrete industry, i was moving a pile of these shutters about to one side, they were anywhere between 4-6m in length and easily a good 100kg. these shutters have really sharp 'lips' on them which form an edge on the concrete when you pour it. anyway, there was a massive pool of water surrounding the area and i didn't see an electrical cable just near me as i was shifting them. i dropped one of the shutters on the electrical cable and the next thing i know there is a massive 'bzzzzz' type noise and my whole vision is surrounded by a white/blue flash. quite lucky i wasn't standing on the pool of water, otherwise i might have been in a bit of trouble.

Was mowing the lawn when I was 13 for pocket money. I hit something and the blade came off and hit me in the leg. I screamed that loud my mum could hear me over two lawn mowers while she was inside.

If the blade hit me on the edge I would have lost my foot, luckily it was the flat side.

it never ceases to amaze me how many times in life we have near misses... i can't think of any specific examples for me right now, but i've never forgotten when a mate jumped off a second or third story balcony (about 5 metres high) into a pool and there was a concrete wall at the back. we were pretty pissed (naturally) and he's almost just launched straight into the wall. **** knows what would've resulted had he hit it.

Probably two spring to mind.

1) Having molton lava fly over our heads on our honeymoon in Vanuatu. We visited the active volcano on Tanna Island. The guides take you to one of two spots depending on wind direction. The wind changed and started blowing in our direction right when the big pit blew. Took about 5-6 seconds to realise that a few big bits of molton rock were heading right where the group was standing. Everyone bolted, wife tripped over, rock about the size of two basketballs goes over our head and lands about 4-5 metres behind us. Very scary

2) Driving through one of the blind corners on a country road on the way to work at 100km/h, sheep must have got out of a paddock and is standing smack bang in the middle of the road, quickly had to pull to the inside onto the gravel, lost the back end of the car and spun onto the opposite side of the road when a truck was coming the other direction. Only pure luck that the truck missed the car.

Re: Your most scary moment.

Been under some decent sized waves. Swimming for the surface in turbulent water can be pretty difficult, particularly since you really have no idea how much farther you have to go or if you're even getting anywhere.

I don't think I've ever been under long enough for a real scary moment, but I have had some dreams where I was under and couldn't make the surface.

Yeah when out surfing bigger waves (6+ foot back) are actually really scary at times. Never enjoy the feeling when you know it's going to break on top of you and you can't do much to get out of the way.

Re: Your most scary moment.

When I was younger (about 17) I was in my mates car and he lost it going around a corner in the wet. We spin around and are sliding sideways towards the park on the inside of the road. Theres two things to hit, a tree, or a horizontal metal bar that ringed the park. My brain quickly realised we were in a Honda CRX with the springs completely taken out and I started hoping for the tree as I think the bar would have decapitated us. We hit the tree. :) Still took a decent hit, my forehead broke the windscreen and I was knocked out and the car was so tinny it wrapped around the tree and flattened the roof out.

If you don't mind could you explain this?

He went to a place called Bishek in the country of Krygyzstan. (Central Asian country near the Aral Sea - used to be part of the USSR).

He had a gun pointed at his face.

I was at the bus station in Bishkek about to board a bus to Almaty, Kazakhstan. A security guard calls me over into a small room. After he closed the door he told me to open my bag so he could inspect it. My dad was traveling with me. I actually had my dad's bag and he had mine. He had a bottle of medication for his blackouts that he suffered from after fracturing his skull in a motorbike accident.

When the security guard saw the bottle of pills he pulled out a gun and pointed it at me, must have thought I was a drug smuggler. He held me at gun point while he got some other people to inspect the pills. After a while he was satisfied that it wasn't drugs and let me go.

Interested in how you came to be in such a remote part of the world? :thumbsu:

I lived in Bishkek for three years teaching English at an international school.

driving through the middle of the desert in new mexico, fuel light comes on, look at gps, nothing but a straight line for 100 miles....

Were you fapping at the time?

Standing in the pavilion after cricket training, there's a bloke out on the oval mowing. Next thing i hear this massive bang like a gun shot and the window smashes about 30 centimeters away from my head.

Turns out someone left one of the pegs holding one of the nets up on the ground, the mower and the window were about 30 meters apart and their was literally no gap between the bang and the window smashing next to my head, would of definitely killed me had it hit.

Was in a pub in Dublin that was robbed by gunmen wearing balaclavas. That was pretty scary, lying on the floor of the pub with a dude pointing a 9mm at my head.

Had a brief moment of shitting myself when in Lebanon when a taxi I was in stopped on a street in South Beirut, like absolute Hezbollah central and the driver go out. Suddenly realised I was alone and phenomenally white and American looking. But then I realised nobody was paying me even the slightest attention.

Taxi driver duly came back and we headed off to Syria, was all good.

Thank god the office is on lunch now. Just burst into a fit of laughter.

Man I hope its no lie :P

Probably being in Phuket just recently when we had the Tsunami warning. Was pretty scary because they thought initially it could worse or just as bad as the 2004 one. Kids screaming, crying, streets empty ect.... Didn't make it any better because the hotel was right on the beach.

Going on a 6 day bender in Amsterdam, spending all my money then not being able to find my passport. It was buried in my bag somewhere but the 10 minutes it took me to find it were unbelievably scary. The thought of spending the night on the street in Amsterdam were sobering to say the least.
