Warner is one I'd be happy to take out but I'd say it's a similar situation to your team with Watson at four, he's the best T20 opener in the world so I think he must open. Kohli can come in at six and hit the gaps straight away and can play either the power game, or he can get bat on ball to give the power batsman the strike.

When in form, Gayle is the best T20 opener in the world. Warner would probably pip Watson too, in my mind.

Watson's versatility means he can slot in to, say 3 or 4 more easily than Gayle or Warner, so it makes sense to have him there and the other two at the top.

Kohli does his best work (by a mile) at 3, that was my rationale for including him there. Each to their own!

Haha yep, all comes down to preference I guess. :thumbsu:

Umar Gul is pretty handy to. Good death bowler and can hold a bat.

Wanted a left armer in my team, and couldn't leave out Malinga or Steyn (who is very underrated in the format). Starc just got the nod ahead of Junaid Khan, who I'm a massive fan of.

tbh, I actually didnt think (or know at all) Starc was that good a T20 bowler, but I'll take your word for it. I havent seen alot of him playing that format. Obviously we've seen him hit a few balls to, so seems likely.

Did you watch any of the World T20 or the Champions League in South Africa? He's about the best T20 bowler in the world right now.

I'll be honest and say no. Couldnt get into it. To much T20 going on for my liking. But good to hear he's doing well :)

I'll chuck his stats up for your benefit!

World T20 - 6 matches, 10 wickets (3rd top wicket taker), average 16.4, econ 6.8

Champions League - 6 matches, 14 wickets (top wicket taker), average 12.35, econ 7.2

Thems some elite stats. :thumbsu:

Good stuff. The big part there I reckon is his economy rate.

Starc really has just the most insane T20 record.

T20 world XI obviously hard 'cause 90% of the batting options do they stuff opening, and obviously....Even middle order options like KP and Hussey have moved up to opening/first drop lately. Ross Taylor & Morgan couple other middle order options that spring to mind (See here for more). MSD is such a no-brainer because you can so easily fit him into a tricky spot to fill. (I should note that I am a fan of a specialist keepers in T20, if the situation deems a keeper who won't drop Gayle on 0 is more important than picking the better batsman who will bat at 7, and hence probably not bat anyway, but more teams should really try to develop their keeper into the 4-6 area, instead of lazily throwing them up to opening or 7. Aus. with Wade an obvious example)

uh anyway there was a bit of talk about Shaun Marsh, but that he never got close to displaying his domestic T20 form on the international stage is a pretty huge black mark against him. You could argue, to a lesser extent, that it's a similar problem for Warner

Gayle
Watson
KP
Taylor
MSD
M. Hussey
Shakib Al Hasan
Swann
Starc
Steyn
Malinga

That's my team which focus on not playing T20 openers wherever. I kinda dug myself into a hole 'cause Gayle and Watson can be expected to fill back-up overs with ease (Watson indeed may be under-bowled. But I'm picking him based on his batting anyways), so instead of a shitty all-round option at 6 (hai Pollard!) I had to pick a batsman, and Hussey was the easy option (and he may well switch spots with MSD). Yurvaj or Duminy were options but out of sheer dislike I over-looked them (I probably should pick Yurvaj). Taylor the most likely removal if I was to try to squeeze in more openers. But I like how he can adjust depending on the situation at no. 4. Number 7 was tricky because obviously a bowling all-rounder was the go here, but I wasn't really happy with most of the options, and then I remembered Shakib and it was happy days. I think sometimes people forget about Swann (probably because of no IPL) but the record stands up, and there's no worry about mystery spin becoming all of a sudden ineffective (Mendis and Narine say hai), so it's 50/50 between him and Ajmal, and given Thorne went with Ajmal, I'll rep Swann

I should clarify, I don't think Pollard is a crappy option so much as that 6 I want more flexibility with the batting. Pollard really is 6 or dot. If you're chasing 50 off 20, that's fine. But chasing 50 off 35? You want a guy who can hit 2's as well as 4's and 6's, you know, avoid the dots. I think the recent Strikers game is a good example as to why Pollard is easy to over-look at 6.

and anyway, 50 off 20?Hussey's got it

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yuvraj,

Strike rate of 148 with the bat which is the highest strike rate for anyone over 500 runs and 7.08 with the ball.

When in form -

C. Gayle
S. Watson
K. Peterson
B. McCullum
Y. Singh
M.S Dhoni
S. Al Hasan
M. Starc
U. Gul
D. Steyn
L. Malinga

Yuvraj isn't a bad choice at all, can be devastating. Not sure you need 4 front line seamers though, and Kohli is a lock in my book.
