Well I had no pathway to professional sport on account of having no real talent but I remember a girl on my cricket team who was easily the best player on our team. I did not think about it at the time (since I was 12) but it must have sucked for her not to really have any access to playing professionally one day.
When my son was playing Auskick and even into the under 10s, there was this girl who was chunky. Not fat. Just well built. She could kick the ball better and further that any of the boys. She was fast too, both in speed and thinking. I never knew her name and I always wonder is she running around in a team today. She would be 20 now.

If 20 then would she still be in Swans academy?
Gosh I hope she is playing somewhere in AFLW.

Adam Gilchrist played cricket for Manly. I reckon Kahli would be short odds being related to him.

The Swans Academy defence held strong throughout the first quarter, restricting the undefeated Falcons to just one goal despite the strong breeze in their favour. During the second quarter, the team displayed tireless physicality and applied quality pressure on the opposition, who managed only one goal from numerous forward entries. The players held their nerve in the final term, running the game out strongly and achieving a remarkable victory against a quality opposition playing on their home ground. Well done to the players and coaches.

Looking forward to Swans getting a team in the AFLW. I have two nieces who are sports fanatics and the said to me at Christmas that if AFLW had been around in Sydney when they were young (they are early 20s) they would have been playing it. They both play soccer and touch football.

I love all the opportunities that girls have these days with AFLW, cricket, Matildas, ...
If AFLW was around in my younger days ;)

Almost disappointed I'm away for the week as it would have been good to go an cheer them on. I noticed the boys academy are playing down the road at Shepley Oval, Dandenong in May so if it doesn't clash, might head down and watch them.

Jess Doyle is an absolute gun. I think I read somewhere she’s only 17 (maybe just turned 18). Excellent skills and great kick and at this rate must be destined for the AFLW.

Does anyone know what the plans are for a Swans team in the AFLW?

With the Swans losing $6 million during 2020 covid and cancelling/postponing/pausing their $65 million redevelopment of both the Hordern Pavilion and the Royal Hall of Industries (RHI) for new training and administration facilities, everything may be on hold with lack of facilities??

The write-up after the girls beat the Geelong Falcons

Jessica Doyle (Sydney Swans Academy)

Whilst Doyle might be lightly built, she certainly packs a punch and plenty of talent with her work in the forward half. Working between midfield and forward as one of those taller mids who can provide a marking target inside 50, Doyle has that X-factor about her that catches the eye. She got the ball rolling for her side against the momentum in the first term with an important goal, then stepped up with her side’s third major of the contest, to finish with the two goals from an equal team-high 19 disposals. Moving well around the ground, Doyle was a key playmaker, driving the ball inside 50 on multiple occasions.
