Has anyone on this site ever seriously considered it? I am sure a number of you on here would have really good ideas that could take off. Or basically, any channel focusing on kids, tech reviews, sex and relationships, and such, would surely do well. These people are making anywhere from $2m to $11m a year just on YouTube views, not counting endorsements.

I don't personally believe in money, as a god, but I guess the smartest form of income is that where you just sit back and gain royalties/views, not working to get paid by the hour.

Not much money in it for me. Advertisers steer clear of 3 hour videos that are just me in a garage ranting about the Serbs.

Croat, Bosnian or true blue racist? :P

I've got a channel with a thousand subs, people like my videos but I've only ever done it as a hobby and have never considered it a career.
What's your channel content?

I would sooner jump off a bridge than come up with the cringeworthy clickbait titles that a lot of people do. I've noticed a correlation in clickbait headlines to shite content. Don't forget to hit that like, click subscribe and press on the bell. I also have a Patreon that provides nothing but money for me and nothing of value to you.

There's a car reviewer I like to watch. One of videos in the you may also like section was the guy who owned the car lent to the reviewer doing a video called "why X reviewing my car was a horrible experience", I was thinking like, gee, maybe the guy is a complete arseh*le! So I watched it, and no, he talks about his car and meeting and hanging with the reviewer, turns out the owner had the runs that day. Nothing juicy.

I watch mountain biking videos almost every night, find them really therapeutic.

The money is actually made from Patreons, not the ad revenue. You'll find most popular youtubers can get upwards of 10k a month and significantly more if enough of their followers throw them $5 a month.

On one of my late night interweb surfs I found THIS site:

https://graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators

Because I was curious when one of the webcomic guys I followed started drawing..."lewds'. Basically his characters naked. It was weird.

But he gets $4k a month currently and its slowly creeping up, from people who want to support his...drawings.

Being a YouTube creator can only be a "career" for a select few at the top. Channels come and go. Most of the people who were big 4-5 years ago now only have a fraction of the audience they once did. It's not something that you can realistically do for 10+ years, even if you're one of the lucky ones who attracts a big following.

Getting into YouTube purely for money these days is just a dumb idea. Should only be making videos as a hobby if you have a passion for it, and if you manage to find some subscribers and make a bit of money, take it as a bonus. The gold rush days are gone. Too many people are making channels and uploading the same dross as everyone else for the sole purpose of making money, instead of actually doing anything interesting.

Heard on the radio last night that one of the best fortnite gamers is making half a million a month from his youtube videos.
Ninja has to be one of the luckiest people in internet history. Was streaming for years and years to a meager audience with no one knowing who he was. Jumped on Fortnite before anyone else, and when that game exploded in popularity he skyrocketed to the top. Now makes $1 million a month for playing a video game for 10 hours a day, is signing brand deals with some of the biggest companies, and is more famous than just about any other internet celebrity. Can't blame him for making hay while the sun shines.

I wish I could be as happy and easily entertained as this train bloke.

Good on him
