i saw an article recently that Meesen was on the edge of selection before the Port game... and that he's been playing well in the VFL...
as a supporter, do you think he'll be a regular in your team next year, or will he be delisted.

...Jeff White is 32 for goodness sake...
firstly, no team would trade anything for him...if a team does take him, it'd be in the PSD...but seriously, a 32 year old...

He played one good gamein the VFlL, I think it was the first time all year he was selected in the best for Sandy.

He is contracted for next year so wont be delisted this season, so all depends how he travels in 2009.

He may turn out ok, but I doubt it.

How could we do worse? By picking a 20 year old or younger that may give us 10 years??

May being a very very appropriate word, you don't know what we'll get in the draft, I'm not saying chase him at all costs but he should be considered, as I have previously commented we have a young ruck brigade and lost alot of experience in Biglands and Hudson in a short time, Thus leaving Maric as our most experienced ruckman along with Griffen (I prob stuffed up the spelling for that but suck it up) who is doing a good job of fading fast, Moran who is newish to the game and Tippett also newish.

Would you disagree that maybe we need a more experienced ruckman in there with them to assist their development? even if this said ruckman doesn't play that much. Maybe not even White but a player in the middle of their career that has had more exposure??

Our Midfielders have/had in recent years Mcleod, Roo, Edwards, Goody

Defence- Torney, bassett, hart (of course they are now at a different stage as they are all players with experience)

Maybe 5 years ago, it would have been awesome to have Adam Yze (OzzzzzzAAAA) on our list.

Sadly his time has passed.

White's biggest problem is that he's useless when not rucking. He was used to rucking as the ONLY ruckman, and playing almost the entire game.

Today's game, you really need two rucks, and they need to offer something when they aren't rucking.

White doesn't do that. He's got great skills, is a great ruckman and can kick a goal - but you can't rest him in the forward line, you can't play him down back and you can't put him on a wing. He's either benched or rucking, and it doesn't fit with the way most teams have so many rotations thesedays.

Yze is just too old.

if their only value lies in teaching and mentoring the younger players, shouldn't their job search be directed at a coaching type job...like Clarke and Hart have for the crows.

no point of having a 32 year old ruckman (he will be 32 before the start of the 2009 season) on the field as a leader/mentor to guide the younger players...he wouldn't be able to keep up with them.
definitely a waste of player space in a team that will make some harsh decisions at the end of this year.

we also don't need any mature aged ruckman at the moment. with Maric and Griffin as the main ruck stock and Moran and Tippett as backup, we don't have space for anymore ruckman.

Yze is actually younger...31 years old...but passed his time. i doubt any team would consider picking him up in the PSD. White might get picked up, but only because some teams are desperate for an experienced ruckman...even if it is only for a year.

That way we don't have to pay out McGregor's 2009 contract.

Yze is past it and while White might have some value playing solely in the forward 50 I can't really think of any team that could use him. No developing team would take him and no team in the 8 is a ruckman away from the flag.

Having said that. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Saints delist Gardiner and recruit White as his replacement.
