I like Browny's opinion on the matter... basically says that not too long ago, players went where they were told. They get paid bucketloads and unless they've truly earned their stripes through Loyalty, their club should be able to trade them if a deal is good enough.

Hell, it happened with JJK in the Judd trade.

100% agree. in most other pro sports the players just get a call saying 'pack ur bags m8', here for some reason the players have too much power. if you become a pro athlete then it should be an expected aspect of your career that you go wherever you're told.

Deledio is the better player and can be nursed through the year, whilst being primed for the pointy end of the season.

Tuohy makes for a good soldier for them but he isn't the match-winner Deledio could be. High risk, high reward?
I don't have any hard evidence except for my dodgy memory but Deledio seems to be unavailable at the worst possible times, like Daniel Wells.

If I couldn't get both, I'd take the guy who's going to be there more often than not and provides consistent form, the team knows what to expect and how he plays. Delidio may be a better player, but he's not that much better.

I think Deledio can win you a game, whereas Tuohy is more of a foot-soldier.
That may be the appeal for Geelong who may want to be able to wheel out a big weapon when required.

Why?

It's a market, clubs negotiate with players.

Not all pro-sports are the same. These arguments make no sense.

I disagree but that's fine. I really think the Cats must get both. Without Tuohy , Deledio will suffer the same fate he does at the Tigers, no support. Sam Docs terrific form is (IMO) in no small part to having Zac as his support, allows him to be the attacking defender.

Let's see of they are able to roll him out when they need though.

Awesome. Now both of you just need to quit squabbling and go out and find this guy:

My best guess is Darling stays with WCE

Zach doesn't exactlyshy away from the big moments though...was that WCE final really five years ago?

Think I've recorded over the MM years. No bad thing.

Cats offer 4 years and best our 300k+ offer and don't want to do anything to facilitate a trade. 38 take it or leave it is the word. 38 and 42 is overs.

Seems as though SOS has a lot of homework to do over the weekend then.

That would be an awful outcome and may force us to back-track on our dealings with Tuohy.

Tuohy needs to go.

He will be 27 in December and isn't a star.

Would rather a youngster get a go, for AFL standards our squad is quite old considering we are a bottom team.

Wrong on every count.

Have a look at our 24 and overs. Not many dead set best 22 players there. Quite a few will be gone within 12 months.

This one feels like its really backfired on us.

Well we were thinking Sydney's 1st initially, then North had some potential players, then he settled on the team with no capacity to give us our price. Definitely a misstep.

The real problem I think with 38 and 42 is the fact they will be pushed back a few places. would give us what we need for hrovat though.

42 on him 38 to the draft.
I don't see many picks jumping up the order before then. There's actually a decent chance the order will thin out if there's some high bids on Bowes, Setterfield, Perryman, Mutch and Macreadie.

Alternatively, perhaps we can give them to GWS via GC and pick up 22 off them for 38, 42 and some of GWS' uncontracted names.

I think a one year contract for a quality bloke like Bartel wouldn't be a crazy idea. If getting Bartel off the Cats books then gives us more leverage in the trade - to get someone like Guthrie - I reckon it would be worth doing.
Problem being these players are legends in the cats eyes, and valuations may vary a lot.Touhey wasnt happy with our 3 year offer in a club that is trying to build, yet we have developed him to where he is.i can see this being renegotiated,he would be fine staying at halfback flank he does an ok job.Unless Geelong can find perhaps an unlikely player where they have a surplus of in position.Darcy Lang they wont budge on,must be close to the mark though?

Not sure this is any different to our Docherty trade. Cats have no obligation to offer fair value and are well placed to take advantage the situation as we did with Sam.

Docherty hadn't shown too much at that point. Jury was out amongst the fans.
