Pretty disappointing effort with a decent team up against a bunch of former (ordinary) AFL players like Cory McGrath, John Baird, Dylan McLaren, Bo Nixon, Adrian DeLuca, David Fanning, Blake Grima and even Phil Raymond who we delisted some time ago.

Macca and Rhys were ineffective in the ruck, and we had no-one down back with any height - particularly when Max went off (I did not see him return). Simpkin was on 200cm forwards almost all day.

Ball had a great first half but faded.

Lynch's knee is heavily strapped which might explain his form over the past 4-5 weeks. Presented OK and kicked a couple but no major impact.

Jack had plenty of it and carried the ball.

Begley looked OK at times, but a couple of bad clangers.

Eddy was prominent but a few turnovers with handball (part of the Saints game plan but obviously not the Zebs).

Geary kicked 3 and had numerous possessions, but turned it over a few times as well (at least 4).

Macca - worst game I've seen from him. Looked lumbering and wouldn't have had many marks.

Stanley - couple of spectacular efforts including 50m goal against the wind, but is trying to ruck and contest without body contact which is limiting his effectiveness. Maybe getting sore towards the end of the season.

Fisher - very good last quarter, but until then thought the game had passed him by even at VFL level.

Simpkin - disappointing day, but still high hopes for him when he gets a bit more size.

Miles - tries hard and is quick, but over-committed many times and ball got behind him.

Not sure what happened to Heyne (did not play).

Cahill has busted his ankle to cap off a fairly average year in which he trash talked about Riewoldt before he was drafted by the Saints, and has pretty much played all games in the reserves (and not really been in the best players).

Do you think he'll get a run, Bourkey?

hope so!:D:thumbsu:

but to be honest i doubt it.

Only reason i can see him playing is if one of Schneider/Milne aren't right but even then you'd think someone like mini would play their role. Perhaps Ross wants to give him a crack to see if he can add something in September but after losing last week i'd be suprised if Ross was planning on mixing things around at such a crucial point in the year.

Best players probably about right for a change.

Port Melbourne 18.11 (119) v Sandringham 13.10 (88)

Goals: Geary 3 Lynch 3 Sautner 2 Gallagher Summers Stanley Steven Garrubba
Best: Ball Geary Steven Biddlecombe Gallagher Eddy

Reserves :
Port Melbourne 10.11 (71) v Sandringham 13.12 (90)

Goals: Eddy 3 Gilchrist 2 Tungatalum 2 Cosson Allan Smith Howard Johnston Connors

Best: McGrath Hardiman Gilchrist Connors Smith Gribbin

McGrath again the best.

Best: Hardiman.

is a mutual friend of mine (eg. mate with one of my friends) so i always look for his name in the best and has found his way into the best on quite a few occassions in the 2's this season for Sandy.

Only just turned 21. Any Sandy regulars out there? what's he like? worth a rookie spot?

seems like a really nice kid.

Bit harsh on the young man Squizz

Is Cahill a long term project? I seem to remember he was a decent grab at pick 70 odd with quite a few tipping him to go 3rd round. But to spend most of the season in the magoos and rarely be named in the best? (Although you could argue that they're useless and incorrect most times)

Anyways, shame for the Zebs. As I think they can't make finals now.

Feel bad for the big guy. Lives in the next street to me and have got to know him. has been doing extra work to get back to good fitness level after missing a lot of last year and the preseason. Hope he gets over it quickly and it doesn't effect this preseason too much. Played his best game for the year last week and looked to be improving, so shocking luck

I was wrangling kids, so only had one eye on the tv, but I thought that his second half (while not as good as his first) was good.

One thing that was interesting was that a number of times he seemed to be hanging around the outside of packs (was also on the inside of about 50), as if he was trying to be a receiver. Doesn't suit the lad. Never will.
