Howard, although a rookie now, is still languishing in the VFL reserves after being St.kilda's second round draft pick in 2006 national draft. Was named in the best, but it seems like he will not make it at AFL level.

I listened to the broadcast a few times during the day, but switched off when I heard we were regularly kicking into a forward line with no structure.
This is one of the problems of having Sautner. Great player at VFL level, but every time I've watched Zebs games he seems to demand more space than he should (he ain't Plugger!!!). Problem is, other teams just plonk someone in the hole for an easy possession.
The Zebs have a team which should be near the top of the ladder, but do not play as a team and have dropped games they should win.

Seems to me that the Sandy players kick it to the Sandy players a bit as well, but that could just be me.
They are definitely underachieving.

The truth is he never left the ground and played through what would be severe pain.
Something to think about for those keyboard warriors who have questioned his courage or dedication.Also it has been suggested he was suffering from the 'Flu.
Come back quickly Armo.,we may still well be in need of your talents.

but yeah I read that on saintsational, the guy appears to legitimately know Armo. Terrible news but, bad as it may sound, it couldn't have come at a better time. Realistically Armo was unlikely to play this year, especially with us flying.
If true a break might be good for him, give him time to rest up, come back and it a real crack at VFL level just in time to make it back in for the flag assault.

Come off it mate, we've dropped what 2 blokes all year, you really think he was gonna force his way into an undefeated side? Who for? Even when we've had injuries he's been behind others. Not to mention the fact that he hasn't exactly been demanding selection at VFL level... Fact is we are top of the ladder and to put it bluntly his injury is not going to cost us any games this year, better it happen now than when we actually need him.
by the way, in case you didn't bother to read my whole post because you were in a blind rage at the fact someone dare badmouth Armo, I actually agree with the second bit there that he could be handy come finals and I reckon he could come back better after a break.

It's fine to be pro Armo brother, but quit forcing it down everyone's throats. You make him out to be the messiah, when is yet to prove himself.

Don't quite know how you can try to put a positive spin on a player being injured.
I still consider that after Armitage became one of the leading goalkickers for the Saints last year, with another preseason under his belt , he could have a positive impact this year. He has been first on the emergency list for a while, but if injured he now has the longer path back through VFL onto the emergency list.
In case anyone hasn't noticed we dont have many goalkicking midfielders.
Joey and Dal get the odd one but are often heavily tagged. Gwilt is very effective at providing assists and pressure but is yet to make much direct impact ( I still want him back in the team ).
Mini was good but has slowed down and needs a break, lets see how he goes after a week off.
Who do you guys think will be the Saints senior rucks out of Stanley, McEvoy and McGrath?

In three years time? Who knows. They could all be failures, or maybe two of them will form St.kilda's number one and two ruckmen. Really impossible to tell. The club are expecting big things from McEvoy, with the hope he could be St.kilda number one ruck for several years after the retirements of King and Gardiner. He is a number 9 national draft pick after all, a big investment from the club draft wise.
So I would say McEvoy. I think thats the question Bomber Man was asking.

don't get me wrong, when a player is injured there are no positives. It's bad news but it could have come at a much worse time is all I'm saying.
btw I agree about the lack of goals, but I reckon the most likely spot Armo would take would be the tackling half forward role currently filled by Mini. And even though Armo might be more talented, I don't reckon you could argue Mini's showed more this year than Armo did last.

For Sandringham, which drops to ninth after its fifth loss, St Kilda-listed Raphael Clarke was outstanding with 21 disposals and five marks in the midfield. Clarke will be considered for Sunday's game against Richmond at Etihad Stadium, as will Leigh Fisher (22 disposals), Matt Maguire (17), James Gwilt (18) and ruckman Ben McEvoy, who had 33 hit-outs, three marks and six disposals.
In more positive news for the Saints, Sean Dempster got through the game unscathed as he recovers from a knee reconstruction. Dempster had 18 disposals roaming across half-back and played about 75 per cent of game time. "He (Dempster) rarely got beaten one-on-one," Zebras coach Andy Lovell said. "You've got to keep it pretty simple coming back from a major knee operation so for him it was about getting through, beating his man and using the ball well."

thats pretty poor stuff...
first of all, no 'break' is good for a player, especially saying it out aloud to people that have connections to him..
secondly, your assuming that he wouldn't have any impact this year.. has it occurred to you that some players actually excel at AFL more than VFL?.. otherwise some players would never get a crack and star VFL players that go terrible in the senior team would always be playing...
thirdly, i would think that most of the team would be excited about going for the flag this year... not next year...
poor stuff... jeez you'd think I was dancing on his grave. I just thought at such a good time for the club, amongst the inevitable angst I'd point out that all is not lost for us or Armo. But yeah, okay I can see people don't take kindly to any attempt to say an injury is anything but the end of the world, next time I'll stop at 'that's terrible news' like everyone else and not bother. but mate please keep in mind I wasn't in any way trying to say his injury was anything but bad news.
in response to your points a) there are plenty of examples of players having a forced break and coming back better for it e.g Hayes after a mid-season form slump last year. obviously there are just as many cases where it's been detrimental, but excuse me for hoping it would be the former not the latter for Armo. b) sure some players shine more at afl level than vfl, but from his 13 games last year I dunno how you could say Armo is one of them and c) I meant this year, as in Armo could come back fired up in time to crack the team for finals (I read 4-6 weeks, so comeback round 16-18 in the VFL, a few weeks strong performances and he's in the mix for finals)
p.s that's the last I'll say on the matter, I'm not gonna argue with fellow Saints fans, we're all mates here. If you took offence to my post, sorry but it wasn't intended that way.
