Zimbabwe suspended by ICC over 'government interference'

Zimbabwe likely to miss T20 World Cup Qualifer after becoming the first Full Member to be hit with suspension

Zimbabwe have been suspended from the ICC with immediate effect. ICC funding to Zimbabwe Cricket has been frozen, and representative teams from Zimbabwe will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events while under suspension, making Zimbabwe's participation in the T20 World Cup Qualifier in October highly unlikely.

Bit confused as to why ICC suspension = no games allowed when the same was not true for the USA, and still isn't true for Nepal, whose cricket board has been suspended for years.

Even more confused as to why the ICC has demanded that the old (terrible and corrupt) board be reinstated. The best thing to do would be to ask for new elections.

Also curious as to how Kenya went away unscathed, even though Croatia and Zambia were also suspended and Morocco was expelled. I realise other full members with political interference, such as the one ruled by the Supreme Court (that's India if you didn't know), get a free pass anyway, but Kenya's much lower down the ranks than them.

More news coming through suggests that Zimbabwe will not be able to participate at the World T20 Qualifier later this year, as they will not be able to challenge their suspension until October.

The ICC hasn't really had a habit of caring about precedent.

That's no really the kind of political interference they're worried about. That's more political consequences than anything.

Zimbabwe and Nepal readmitted as ICC members

Zimbabwe are now eligible to take their place in the Men's Under-19 World Cup in January and the ICC Super League that begins later in 2020

Zimbabwe are back. They do miss out on the T20 World Cup but will be able to compete in the ODI championship starting next year.
