On the back of a typically dominant performance on Friday night against Hawthorn, Lance “Buddy” Franklin has joined some of the greats of Australian football in the top 10 goalkickers of all-time.

Buddy’s five goals in Sydney’s narrow loss at the SCG was enough for him to jump Fitzroy and Footscray great Bernie Quinlan to reach 819 goals.

With a contract that could see him play until he’s aged 36 in 2022, Franklin looks set to continue to storm up the rankings over the next few years, perhaps even reaching the magical 1000 goal milestone.

However, Tony Lockett’s record 1360 goals looks like an unlikely achievement from here, with Franklin 541 goals in arrears of Plugger. The Bud would need to average about 100 goals a year until his contract ends in 2022 to break the all-time record.
