    Recruiting 2026 AFL draft

A lot can change but looking at that top ten, minus Cochrane and walker who are club tied. I like our draft strategy this year more. A lot of key forwards or small fwd/mids options to fill our needs next year. If merret still wants to go a late teens picks and 2027 1st with us giving a 2nd...

AFL Player 30: Nate Caddy - Reports of groin tightness, restricted training loads for a few weeks - 20/11

I mean it's a long way from afl intensity but footage vision of him running, jumping and laughing today is surely a good sign. Its still early so hopefully just adjusting workloads. He does fly for everything from all angles and land quite awkwardly, a bit straight and 1 legged at times. so...

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

Wright, mcmahon, Edwards, even langford just arent great at always fighting to make a contest and bring the ball to ground. It's positioning, endeavour, playing style and size. Morris does it. aerial competitor. Even durham and durrsma do it better than most of the taller players mentioned but...

Kickett as a rookie or ssp a possibility? although assume the wa clubs might offer a train on spot.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

Happy with hea, not the speed but genuine small fwd need. Should get some games purely for team balance.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

May is the only one who's a genuine key fwd to pair next to caddy. The rest are better suited as third tall. Jones utility and I doubt Edwards and mcmahon are on the list next year. May might not either.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

Yep need some pace up fwd. Mcgrath or roberts might have to be used fwd at this rate.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

Hoping we drafted for needs a bit more with that pick as lack of big key fwd options and small fwds are big holes in the list at the moment. Small fwds at least 1 please. We also need pace.

I dont think kickett makes it pick but id be rapt with that.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

I think the most dissapointing thing about not matching sweid is more gresham next year. Not worth the deficit but hoping we could have got something for a future 3rd. 2027 second or something.

AFL Player 37: Nic Martin - Confirmed ACL in JULY, return in mid-26, ahead of schedule, slipped at training, will see surgeon - 18/11

Big difference between running straight lines and the gym as a starting point and running and snapping a footy on a oval as per the photo. Just suprised by the photo that's all. What month did he do the knee? I thought it was later in the year

AFL Player 37: Nic Martin - Confirmed ACL in JULY, return in mid-26, ahead of schedule, slipped at training, will see surgeon - 18/11

Suprised to see him training, I thought he would be mid year at best.

Is still only 24 and our 2nd best player. Take it conservative and hopefully we can protect him from himself, with his keeness to get back. Seems a smart player so can get him to help coaches if he is out for the year already.

    Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2025 - Picks 9, 10, 13, 37

Do cumming or sharp have any elite points of difference? I really hope we somehow trade up and get a dovaston or Schubert? As well as sweid we need to draft another small fwd with a first or second

Coach Men's Coaches 2026 - Solomon becomes backline coach, McLean joins as development coach

How does the soft cap work for coaching? Just thinking if there any advantages from a low budget/lower reputation coaching group? Can we front load contracts and then load up in future years to poach a senior assistant or cover a scott payout etc? My guess is probably not as just a soft cap...

Agree, i think one of mcgrath/roberts will always be used further up the ground and thrown around more so it opens up a small defender spot for nguyen/Johnson.

Coach Men's Coaches 2026 - Solomon becomes backline coach, McLean joins as development coach

Lastly Solomon will have won me over if i dont see mcgrath takes a kick out for the full year. Some of this stuff isn't hard.

Coach Men's Coaches 2026 - Solomon becomes backline coach, McLean joins as development coach

Coaching panel also probably deserves credit for at least trying the tall wings, Blakiston as a key defender and martins flexibility. Not all work full time but they added weapons in the coaching box battle.

Coach Men's Coaches 2026 - Solomon becomes backline coach, McLean joins as development coach

It comes down to coaching but we lack a bit of strategy. So please move or point to another thread but few things id like too see from our coaches. Jones, Blakiston, Cox all be rotated through back up ruck, kpd, kpf and even wing. Can be in vfl but between the 3 I think we will find one afl...

    AFL Player 16: Archie Perkins

Was certain he was going to be a star early but just plays indecisive and ball watches. I wonder if worth trialling in other spots hbf, wing or even as smaller full forward. Trialling is probsbly in the vfl though. He should have been the stringer, de goey, rayner role but just doesn't have...

Coach Men's Coaches 2026 - Solomon becomes backline coach, McLean joins as development coach

Its the lack of process, ess boys club. Same poor governance lead to biggest drug scandal in the competitions history so reaction is valid for mine. Dodoro had twenty plus year, I think afl expierience is bit overrated generally.

When do tassie join? At this rate we are all jumping ship yeah? My two favourite players of all time solomon and hird are the two ppl i want least involved in coaching essendon. Never meet your idols, efc run like a local footy club. Honestly there is more governance and due process at most...

Hard to sack a board member if he is no good as an assisstant. We are a bizarre club. Crap but bizarre. I like welsh less with every announcement.

AFLW Autopsy R9: Flogged by the dogs

Be good to have at least 1 half decent team. Aflw, AFL, VFL all been pretty average for a while now. As a club need to keep focusing on development, culture and ensuring a mid to long term list strategy. Will the new afl hp team have any influence/insights for aflw. Collectively need to...
