You had a chance to take that rant in an entirely different direction, and you ended up choosing to make it wholesome.
Not sure if I'm happy with that.
Well, I'm offended about the last 20 years in which we have moved to be owned by the AFL and now watch our previous top-few-in-the-league membership numbers stagnate and our relative standing as a club diminish.
Off field and on field we have also never hit the highs we did in the late 90s...
Those are really interesting stats.
Do they say at what point in time during the match you need to be in the lead by 30 points, or is it just "once a team gets to a 30 pt lead they are at that chance to win".
The bottom 6 or so players in our best 22 are not that great. They can all be replaced by better players.
And we still don't have enough elite top end talent.
We can occasionally jag a game with big performances from our best players, but the drop off in quality after say, 15th selected...
Given that, have we had the worst draw in the comp? Must be close.
We've already played all the teams at the top of the "momentum ladder", excluding Sydney... who we get twice, and the run home is a nightmare.
It's actually quite criminal of us to not have someone coming through in that position, given we also clearly don't rate Strachan at all. Where is our up and coming kid?
Welsh will be interesting. If he's any good, that probably means as he transitions in, Tex transitions out. I wouldn't think Fog is in danger.
Murray stays in the backline.
There's probably a few really religous players that would make the whole thing a mess.
I have a conspiracy theory that the AFL would probably try to convince the player not to come out, just to avoid the problem.
Well, it makes sense to.
"If you keep playing good, we'll talk about another year". Nothing wrong with that.
It's the gaming of the system though. If Smith puts forward "I played all but one game, so we're all sweet, right?" and that's accepted, then we're talking garbage.
Dunno... we were really efficient (didn't miss) and Port missed a lot (suck it port).
On balance, I reckon if both teams kick to normal standards, we lose that game.
We did do a good job of making Ports I50 entries wide and shallow, that's true. Still, Boak hit the post, Dixon missed a sitter...
Kinda, that's around the middle of the window, so should be a players absolute peak years.
But an elite player for a long time... you've got to think age 24 through 29 is your tip top, should be at your bestest, you won't be this fit, this young, multiple preseasons under your belt again.
