    Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 11 - Walyalup (Freo) v Pies Fri May 24th 6:10pm WST/8:10pm AEST (OS)

What the hell. What an embarrassing decision. No need for it.

Autopsy Round 10, 2024: Hawks get pipped by Power

Boys played amazingly well in the first 3 quarters. Ran out of gas and tried to play it safe in the last. I hope there aren’t too many mental scars from this, no lead will feel safe now which can lead to nervousness and loss of momentum in similar situations. We need to be really strong to not...

    Game Day Round 7, 2024 : Hawks v Swans, 4pm MCG

We are trying hard, but lack A graders who hurt with the ball in hand. Forward line also dysfunctional - can’t believe Rama is sub. The depressing point is the swans are playing at 70% and totally controlling the game.

    Game Day Round 7, 2024 : Hawks v Swans, 4pm MCG

Swans so much cleaner. We are doing the tough stuff but lack the finishing class to take advantage. EG we got a turnover 70m from goal and Mackenzie (?) placed it in between about three forwards. Got to make our touches count and we don’t.

Preview Round 5, 2024: Suns v Hawks, 7:30pm Sat 13th April, People First Stadium

We all know our record vs the GC is pretty poor playing up there. Here's GC's record playing against all teams at home from AFL Tables. Other Melbourne-based teams seem to do fine up there - GC only have a winning record against Hawthorn, NM and Richmond (interestingly). So yeah the humidity...

Autopsy Round 4, 2024 : Hawks get Pied

Showed great heart in the second half and could have pinched it. Just not quite clean enough when it counted. Loved Meek’s game. Newcombe starting to get back to his best. Amon influential. On the flip side not sure we are getting most out of Weddle in the backline. Croc needs a spell.

lol complaining about other teams kicking set shots.. how about we kick ours

Autopsy Round 2, 2024: Hawks go to hell

Partially this, and partially because our forwards don’t lead to the ball carrier. Instead they stand one step behind their opponent and point towards our goal- expecting the ball carrier to nail a 50-60m pass off one step. When the ball unsurprisingly lands short it’s an uncontested mark to the...

    Cricket things that annoy you

Good in theory, but would get overused by the umpires so that anything even remotely close gets reviewed (case in point - runout and fair catch reviews). No umpire would want to take the risk of not referring. I would just make it 2 reviews max per innings, and 15 secs to decide. That way...

Test India v England (5 Tests) + Ind A v Eng Lions (1 Tour Match and 3 FC games)

Don’t care what it looks like. Just judge on the outcomes. Is it a fair contest between bat and ball, does it allow for reasonable rate of scoring, does it reward good skill and technique. 350 vs 300 on first innings and 5-120 is pretty perfectly poised.

Test India v England (5 Tests) + Ind A v Eng Lions (1 Tour Match and 3 FC games)

Have watched most of it actually. Challenging for the batsmen but not unplayable. 650 runs in 7 sessions. The number 9 with good technique just faced 130 balls and looked fine. Give these wickets any days over a road.

Test India v England (5 Tests) + Ind A v Eng Lions (1 Tour Match and 3 FC games)

Not sure why so much criticism of the pitch? 250-350 first innnings usually set up the best test matches. Had something in it for quicks up front and then for spinners. Not impossible to bat on by any means.

Autopsy Round 23, 2023 : Hawks fall to the Demons

Missed Lewis’ presence and also Wingard’s creativity in the high HF role. So much to like in the first half, ran out of gas in the second but didn’t get steamrolled. All in all can’t ask for much more than that against a premiership favourite. Hustwaite was great!!

    5th Ashes Test England v Australia July 27-31 1930hrs @ The Oval

At the risk of quoting myself again.. :whitecheck: :whitecheck: :whitecheck: got the dud ball (before it was changed) and Stokes seemingly forgot Mark Wood was on the field :whitecheck: put him away at >4rpo Very finely balanced at this point. First hour tomorrow so crucial. Lose 0 wickets...

    5th Ashes Test England v Australia July 27-31 1930hrs @ The Oval

Call me crazy but I think there’s one more twist in this series. England way in front but I think there’s still a path for Australia: wicket still playing true and not doing much off the seam England without their frontline spinner England’s seam attack is the oldest in 100 years and it’s the...

    Preview Round 13, 2023 : Hawthorn v Brisbane, 1:45pm Sat 10th June, MCG

I wouldn’t call myself a doomer but a realist. If he’s not getting a game in a bottom 3 side even when Sicily or Frost are missing then there’s a big question on whether he ever fits in Sam’s best 22. Reading the VFL coaches reports it seems to be consistency of effort throughout the 4 quarters...

Autopsy Round 1, 2023: Bombers beat the Hawks

First game in the flesh since 2021 and lots to noodle on. Obviously a young side so will not read too much into a single performance, but the forward line is a real issue. Very disappointed in the lack of structure - when our mids had ball in hand looking forward, our forwards are standing next...

    DRS

i see a few issues / inconsistencies in how DRS is currently implemented. One pet peeve is where there are appeals for LBW with bat potentially involved. The umpire may give “not out” for an LB appeal believing there’s an inside edge, but otherwise believes it hit in line / hitting the wickets...

Unofficial Preview Best 22! Who’s in the team Round 1, 2023?

Agreed he has shown potential (especially loved his first games). If he’s fully fit it would be ideal for the young guns to play as much together in the firsts as possible. Not sure VFL will allow him to develop his defensive, intercept and rebounding game as much. But I guess he needs to be...

Unofficial Preview Best 22! Who’s in the team Round 1, 2023?

Not seeing much mention of DGB in these round 1 teams. Is there some injury concern or just a few ahead of him?

2022 Hawthorn List Management Discussion (including Trade, FA period)

Wish I shared the confidence in our forward line next year. For me it’s going to be our biggest weakness. We were 11th on points for last season and we have lost Gunston. Butler and Brocky have shown some promising signs but are far from consistent performers. Apart from Lewis we are very thin...

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group D - (France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia)

Let's face it guys - we have a weak squad and France has a golden generation. I mean Lucas Hernandez gets injured and they put his brother Theo off the bench who is one of the best LBs in the world. Our best player wouldn't be in the top 100 in France. 4-1 is not a bad result (I expected 4-0...

News Hawthorn Racism Review - No player name speculation - opposition posters tread very carefully

Very very very troubling. Just read the article in full (encourage everyone to do so). The events and actions are extremely specific and the author spoke directly to three former players and their partners, who specifically named Clarkson, Fagan and Burt. Those named should have the chance to...
