4. Dean Kemp was sublimely skilled and should have won the Norm Smith medal despite Matera's 5 goals. He was no bigger than a twig, but boy was he a player. Fitting that he handed the cup to Simmo this time round.

NAh Matera absolutely dominated that game. They weren't just any 5 goals either, there were some pretty freakish efforts among them. Clear winner.
I acknowledge that Kemp was fantastic but I still would have had Heady in 2nd place after Kemp. He had a quiet first quarter then just exploded and was amazing in that game.

Was watching that game recently (desperate times?) and when Matera snakes through the middle, bursts clear and goals on the run...it's like wow, how often do you see that in the modern game? Degoey in the GF came to mind, but Matera had speed, poise, mongrel and that raking kick.
Kemp was sublime, Matera the excitement machine and Heady imposing on the flank.
There's that quote- a team of champions or a champion team -this team was really both I reckon,
maybe like our current team, which is what sets them apart.
But they face a new challenge as the hunted in 2019.
