It’s the one change I hope they never make. The less Americanized we are the better.
Our system probably needs to shift a bit that way. The players have literally all the power right now. Most that demand a trade get it, even if the compo isn’t sufficient. Clubs are really hamstrung on bad contracts or over hyped players.

They’ll be 28 and 30 next year.

Along with virtually ALL of our (current) best players.

That's the whole point.

All of steele, marshall, wilkie, sinclair, wood, hill, crouch, webster, membrey, hayes, howard, cordy, ross are 28+

The next gen (owens, pou, wilson, windy) etc will only MAYBE (massive maybe) become reliable guns in 2+ years.

By that time most of our current best players will be coming out of their prime years.
Net result in 3 years = us not much (or any) better overall than we are now- which is a midtable at best, battler team.

We need to roll the dice and go for a flag properly in 25, 26 (or 27 at the latest, not the earliest).

So, with those collection of players hitting 28-30 you also want too add more in that age bracket which will hopefully get us above mid table? Do you want another perpetual rebuild lol

Might have to barrack for another team.

Seriously though- if we do something serious about our midfield- why not?

We have one of the best coaches in the caper.

We have a genuine gun backline.

One of the best rucks in the league.

King owens membrey higgins hayes is a very strong fwd line.

Genuine gun wingmen in wood and hill.

Add LDU/Mcluggage and daniel and mcrae (or similar) into the 22 (for stuff all draft pick cost) and relegate the likes of bonner, ross, byrnes, crouch, to very decent depth/backup.

We have every piece of the puzzle apart from a gun (or even decent) midfield.
We can fix it pretty quickly if we are brave enough to step up and not be satisfied with merely not being bottom 4.

Tyson Stengle contract is up .
Exactly the type of player we could use in our forward line for the next 3 years. Stengle and Collard would give us a dynamic forward line next season.

There is room for Higgins as well if he maintains his form, but more importantly allows us to manage our small forward brigade more strategically , resting one / bringing in one , when the draw gives us 2 or 3 games in short succession.

Butler is cooked imho and will need to be managed. His body can’t make it through a full season. Hotton doesn’t look like he is going to survive beyond this year.

Yes we need mids more, but if we have this war chest then a goal kicking small forward should be on the list also.

When we beat GWS in 2017 I thought we were two gun mids away from being a top four team. I think that’s part of the reason Pou is getting so much game time. We need to find out what the ceiling of our young guys is and get them there asap.

The club would absolutely pull a rabbit out of a hat to get a flag in the next few years , we always seem to be in no mans land , we cant attract top liners that would really make a difference and are finishing mid table and not getting high draft picks .
There are a few holes in our list that need to be fixed before we are going to win a flag

Brad has already volunteered to organise the welcoming party

But seriously- yeah nah.

Blowing a big chunk of our salary cap on a small forward... when our midfield is a dumpster fire- is not the way to go.

How many players in the last 10 years have been taken from Geelong?
