Things that sh*t me the seventeenth

I have done this in previous roles where dissent is less accepted by management for sure. In my current situation we have robust and healthy debates and end up with a way better outcome, because I'm being honest with him.
That's the way it should be, though seems a rarity.

I once had a Team Leader (15 odd years ago) say when I asked to change a process "Yep, great idea. I'll need to run it by her & give me time as I'll need to frame it as her idea to get it through" haha

Currently in my first stint in a manager role leading a team of security architects. Real lessons I am learning is first trust them to do what their role requires an fulfil their responsibilities. Higher ups (such as certain Chief level staff, not all but some) blather on about going above and beyond to get further their career but I call bullshit on that. They signed a contract for an agreed salary clearly stating what their roles and KPI's are and as long as they meet them then I'm happy as that was the agreed employment contract.

I'm pretty lucky as every one of them is excellent and they don't require any sort of babysitting. There are times when projects require extra hours and they do them without fuss. In turn I get them days off outside of sick or annual leave to chill out and have an agreement with my boss that they aren't to be bothered on those days and all questions come to me.

We are now getting directives that all staff must attend onsite for three days a week which I took exception to. I go in every day as I like it and hate working from home but my team prefer working from home, they always get shit done and attend every meeting via Teams, their work ethic and results are excellent hence I pushed back. I do ask they come in one day a week for a team day as face to face is still important but we go to lunch and once a month Ill shout a few rounds after work.

Treat hard workers with respect, give them the freedom to work their way and more often than not you will get the output desired. Of course there are some that take the piss and need to be called out by their respective managers but simply put Covid changed the workplace, it wont go back to pre covid times. Get used to it or lose quality staff.

Yeah I agree that it’s not a newsworthy story. I think it’s pretty common for doctors to have poor bedside manners but taking your hurt feelings to the news happens way too much these days.

It's the other way around. Journos seek out this type of content because they know that Boomers will blow up over it.

It's outrage farming, like those articles where they interview rich kids who were gifted homes on how they manage their finances. They know it's guaranteed to get pissed off clicks and comments.

Are you calling me a boomer

I work in a shared mailbox and there is this ****ing bloke at work who will always assign me tricky, hairy, tough, rough, requiring thinking emails straight into my name. Hates to do anything requiring thinking.

Then when I am working on something and i assign myself new email that I will reply to that are simple, he will pick them out of my inbox and "work" them. Not only do i lose continuity, but it just ****ing shits me.

The amount of times i respond to a customer and then he responds after i have completed it, is just insane.

Man Utd part owner wants to end the WFH culture and wants everyone back in the office by June 30 or they can.find other employment
Most of the team haven't turned up this season so I can see where he's coming from.

Good mate called me this morning, haven't spoken in a couple of months. Lovely guy, lovely family. He told me his nine year old daughter has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. ****ing heart breaking, I was dumbstruck, literally speechless, I didn't know what to say its not really a "ah shit mate" type of answer.

I just asked what might be cliched is there anything I can do?? Need to catch up? etc I want to give him space as well. ****ing nine years old. They had no idea, thought it was just a common flu or bug, more tests done, then specialist tests then the diagnosis.

I cannot belieeeeeeve businesses are still having the WFH debate.
Only businesses with poor management and the public service, who almost by default have poor management, are still having the argument. People voting with their feet will force change slowly again

When I worked as a workforce analyst for a health network (public service), the stats suggest unplanned absence drops greatly when people can WFH in roles that can do it. managers complain people aren't as effective (I'd argue they are mostly) but even if that's true, isn't 80% efficiency better than unplanned absence of 0%?!

This issue irks me no end haha

Working in a new building estate in the northern suburbs cant believe how lazy the blokes doing the nature strip landscaping are they would be lucky to do one hours work for the day. Whoever is paying must be getting paid a fortune as these blokes spend more time talking and standing around than working. No wonder costs blow out it’s a joke

When people leave the work ute for you with no fuel in it. Just fill the hecking thing up, it really isn’t that hard. We have an onsite bowser so it REALLY isn’t that hard.

this push to age verify the interwebz, so cringe an overreach
I honestly disagree - social media is probably one of the worst thing to happen to children recently. Probably the major vehicle behind the mental health crisis teens are experiencing right now. I'm not too far out of my teenage years and I'd say a decent portion of my peers would agree that it's a huge issue.

It's hard to deny social media's effect on younger people but levels of mental illness among teens is slightly deceptive in that it's only quite recently that people have really recognised it as an issue among young people so we don't really have much data about adolescent mental health prior to the era of the internet to compare it to.
