These incidents are happening across the state, I believe caused by the poor standard of umpiring and leagues that are not strong enough to take stern action.
The standard of umpiring across Victoria is dropping, you are correct. The reason being is because of the ageing list of umpires and lack of recruits. The question you need to be asking is why and the answer is, why would anyone want to umpire these days, the amount of abuse they receive is a disgrace and until the idiot footballers and spectators get it stuck into their very thick skulls that the more they abuse umpires, the less they will recruit and the worse the standard of umpiring will become.

Would have to agree, Alvey has had a teriffic year and was good again today, but unfortunately he may umpire a little to much while he is playing, which might count against him when the votes are handed out.
Haha, very funny, from a person who may know something, he has been very very far from it, quite the opposite actually this yr.

What about the idea that it's the home clubs resposibility to provide a safe environment for umpires to work in, eg asking ppl in the crowd to leave the ground, I don't believe being called "a cheating F**** C*****", would be accepted anywhere in the community other than it seems to be OK on a saturday at the footy.

One would hope clubs would do the right thing and police that sort of thing.
There's always a thing called 'self discipline' too. Worls for most of us. If the majority can behave and do the right thing, I'm sure the minority can.
Umpiring is a real issue and the actions of few seriously place the policing of the game in jeopardy!

Righto people, time to discuss the McLeod Medal prospects, as well as the SFNL Team of the Year. Brad Eaton must be a Monty for the McLeod, with Jackson, Lando, Peake, Featherstone, Dawson also in the mix, can never forget Falvo either...

The VCFL stated in their recent report to AFL Victoria that umpire numbers have increased and more umpires are completing their programs to improve the standard of umpiring, these programs include the green shirt, acedemy and accreditation.

Lets get away from the crap surrounding the SFNL and get to todays game, an absolute ripper in the end.....
Wind was blowing across the ground from the pavillion side from the start to finish, no Eaton which I believe evened the game up.
The game was close from the outset, with Irymple's run making it hard the Eagles to match up on. Eventually, the game turned into a one on one slog, accountable football at its best which Robinvale excell at. John Jackson in the second and third quarters got plenty of the ball on the half back line and cleared with confidence. 'Stinky' Smith was also fantastic in the Eagles backline, and the old man Falvo cleaned up in the third and last. Brodie Hodson and Byrnes tried hard for Irymple, Crossling was good in the first half and Moncur needed to do something in the last quarter. He put himself in the middle and was all over Irympes ruck division, needed to though because he had done bugger all up to that point. Zac Peake got some goals in junk time, very good kick for goal but at that stage the Eagle had already flown the cage. John Jackson BOG for mine, second Smith and third Falvo. The D Train tried hard all day but was always up against two or three, Brodie Hodson battled well and probably won his position, Byrnes was good in the stoppages but had little help. Irymples little men just couldn't get on top, while Robinvale turned the game into an accountable slog which they eventually won with ease. Big ask now for Irymple to get up over Wentworth who are flying, but they do get the Rolls Royce back. Still, I reckon the Roos are up and about and will play off against Robinvale in the big one......

Great Summary there Schnail73......hopefully your conclusion for next week is wrong......but there is no denying that the roos are flying ATM. will be a great prelim thats for sure!!!

Grand final predictions
Premiers: Robinvale by 2 points (close grinding game if it rains)
Best on ground medal: Brodie Hodson (Irymple)
Reserves: Robinvale (will want it more after last year)
Under 18s: Mildura (still the best U18 group going around, young class everywhere)

well done mildura under 18s 4in a row. congratulations too all coaches , trainers, familys and mildura football netball club.:D:thumbsu:

Congratulations to the Irymple, Robinvale and Mildura Football Clubs yesterday. I heard that the crowd was enormous, the biggest one in years and the senior game was a cracker. Gotta hand it to Irymple, as a club they have got their sh1t together and are now reaping the benefits. Excellent junior structure with some fantastic players, and the core group of the seniors should stick around for some time to come.
Huge effort for Mildura U/18s to win their 4th flag in a row. That has to develop into some senior success sooner or later.

A great 2011 comes to an end for the SFNL, kudos to all involved in any way shape or form....see ya all in 2012..

Does anyone know if all three grades were taped by the league on Grand Final Day, and if so, where can one purchase the DVDs of the games? :)

Which coaches are safe for 2012??
Obviously Byrnes and Eaton at Irymple.
Other safe coaches would be (im guessing)
Merbein's Walder, Wenty's Alvey ( although hes been doing it for a long time and he may want a rest) Mildura will stay with Hughes.
Clubs on the lookout for a new coach could be Imps and South
Clubs definitely on the lookout are Red Cliffs and Robinvale.
Any local prospects
There are a few "Intent to Interview" forms on the go (not for coaching roles) with one club in particular keen to recruit.
I guess you have to try.

The Sunny daily has answered some of the above.
Now we only have to wait on Robinvale and Red Cliffs.
Any definite movement within the clubs?
Or indefinite as well.

Just replying to the Motlop to Dimboola story, my mail does indeed have him heading down the sunraysia

Just heard that Shannon Motlop last night signed with St Arnard in the North Central and will possibly be joined by Nick Coghlan who has a meeting with them tomorrow night and they are also courting another Motlop and John Jackson!! James McNamee is the coach apparently?

Seems not many of the stars will be playing at the eagles next yr??

Cogs would go with Irymples blessing. He was always going to go home and St Arnaud is a lot closer to home than Mildura.
Not that Cogs was on a lot at Irymple but it will free up some cash for 2012 recruits.
