Wow. That was an incredible interview. I felt sorry for Bomber watching that. He was on the edge and looked like he just wanted to flip the table on it's head. You can tell how hard he has been hit by this whole saga, along with everyone within the footy club. He is obviously mentally and emotionally drained.

Can't believe people are criticizing the bloke for being honest about what he thinks of it all, of course he'll have a different perspective from people outside of Essendon. He admitted they stuff up, he admitted they should have known more about the supplements program, I don't think he shied away from anything.

He doesn't think they are drug cheats because he's not exactly sure what the players took, nor does Hird. Dank is still the kingpin here.

Loved the way that Bomber, in all his chaotic demeanour, kept reaching for the script.

Don't think he will coach Essendon next year. Reckon he'll walk like he did at Geelong and isn't it funny how the whole thing started in the strangest of circumstances with Knights being pushed, Hird's denial about the job, Bomber's departure from Geelong. Carro needs to write an article backgrounding the dynamics of the EFC at that time and how it led to today. She might even want to compare it with Richmond's rise from the ashes as both clubs were in similar situations at the time.

For a TV interview, that was the first time an interview did my head in.

For the most part Bomber was been honest and frank, which is disturbing given what he was saying.

He was concerned regarding the supplements but not enough was done, by his club, (him?), the AFL.

He gave a real whack at the AFL, to basically sum it up, he said the AFL didn't put enough protocols in place when they knew something dodgy was going on. The talk Vlad had to Hird was merely just a warning but he is saying they should've done more in 2011.

Although this is not new, but he reaffirmed that he doesn't know what the players were injected with (in regards to other substances besides AOD) and that the players don't either. Very troubling. Are we to believe this? He seemed genuine.

He basically accused another party of leaking information in regards to the ASADA investigation, in other words, implying the AFL did not adhere to the non-disclosure. Is he alluding to the AFL systematically throwing out information to the public in order to get the public and the other clubs on their side.

To put it bluntly, he continually stated that he doesn't know what they did wrong besides ignorance, but he didn't believe there was any evidence to what actually given to the players. He was alluding to this may have been lost in the sanctions, that what the players were given has been overlooked now.

How much do you take him on his word? If he does believe what he said, could it be on the other hand certain people at the club have convinced him otherwise, that they didn't know but in fact knew everything. He said that he objected in a meeting that they should immediately stop the injections. When then asked why he didn't bring it up with the players directly, he basically said that he just assumed that they would've stopped.

Tl;dr

He thinks he did what he could to stop the supplements and/or injections, knows now he could've done more but tries to make you understand he did not know any better at the time. Accuses the AFL on their poor governance and their dirty tactics of leaking in the media, thus compromising the ASADA investigation.

Shit bricks when Caro asked him about Hird leaking information.

That was a train wreck. poor bomber. A twitching, quivering mess. Agree with other posters in saying he should've gone home and had a few stiff drinks and chilled on the couch. Compelling TV? I don't think so. Raw TV indeed. Bizarre even.

Bottom line Essendon football club was engaged in the massive systematic program of giving their players substances/supplements/drugs in order to gain an on field advantage. They AT BEST wanted to run a technically legal program in the gray area of legal substances. They were gaming the system AT BEST in order to give their players what they firmly believed was performance enhancing substances.

What they were trying to do was be successful drug cheats who get away with by being technically legal because the substances they were using had not been banned yet. They intended to gain a significant on field advantage.

Ethically they haven't a leg to stand on. Legally , looks like they will get away with it because of poor record keeping. They ran the program with basically no Medical supervision, ignored the concerns pf the club doctor. They have shown total disregard for their players health. James Hird seems to have been the prime mover in getting the people of board and starting the program.

Essendon and James Hird have gotten off Very Very lighty,

Gotta give Bomber props for turning up and telling his story, get out in front of the thing while you still have a chance.

So you're saying going back to the Toorak mansion might have been a bad ploy from James?
Wow for the first time in this whole saga James has done something wrong:eek:

Wow what a car crash. Who is advising Essendon on their media?

When people want to say what they know is right but have to work their story out in their head to match the spin, they bumble.
I don't remember, was Bomber a bumbler before? Before this I remember him as always being pretty relaxed with stuff and usually pretty frank.

Wait till the ACC come knocking at the door with the threat of criminal charges, I bet, away from the glare of TV lights an interviewers, his story is clear and concise to the investigators who could charge him with criminal offences.

And all that bumbling will disappear in one big "it wasn't me it was Hirdy" confession.

Everyone knows it was Hirds baby, that's why he got 3 times the punishment of anyone else.

Looking forward to what Tim Watson has to say on SEN tomorrow morning.

It's nothing just media speculation, the players are all behind James and can't wait for him to lead them through the game against the Tigers

And who was the puppet master pulling all those strings and hasn't had to take any heat for it all?

Sick puppies on here
One moment bomber is too honest, next he is deflecting, next ...

The only poor performance was Caro
She got her scalp and could not be graceful about it
"Don't want to kick a man when he is down" what a croc
She specialises in kicking people when they are down,
As do many on this board

Bomber wins my respect out of this, he. Has worn his heart on his sleeve but courageously
And there are few others involved in this opera who can say the same.
You and I could not be more different in our reactions.I thought Caro was excellent, and if you had been attentive you'd have noticed that she did not ask 1 question in the final 5 minutes. She could see that Bomber was angry with her, and backed out with the grace you said she didn't display.

And if you think Bomber emerged as a person worthy of respect then you are misguided. He lost all credibility with his erratic and unreasonable defence and responses. He was 'honest' but unimpressive and almost foolish.

He clearly doesn't know, what are you exactly having a go at him for? He said he had no idea if ASADA will still find their players guilty, cos he has no idea what they took. Pathetic post.
So he doesn't know if they are drug cheats, you can't have it both ways.
