Dream Live Set Game

It's their (his?) best by a landslide. Lifted.. is pretty cool too and he experimented with a heap of new sounds and it's basically Conor's 'Figure 8' album but it's not on the same level. I'm Wide Awake was him at his creative and poetic peak.

His earliest albums are good too; raw and insightful and full of nice little observations and poetic surprises.

After he got off the drugs his music became pretty boring, but he's still got a nice little legacy which has never been overstated or exaggerated beyond how conceivably good it is.
The early albums are ok but with Conor Oberst it's more the song than an album I like, for example I Will Be Grateful For This Day off a rarities album could be my favourite of Bright Eyes.

I would have the drum end to song two also start song three. Bangertown. Barely Legal's guitars go well into 12:51 too, which is something fairly easy to recognise and get into live but'll help steady the set. Nothing worse than everyone using all their energy by the seventh song... I also think Red Light (so underrated) and Under Cover go well. What a singles band.

I can't help but differ the strokes from a certain five people who like going in a single direction.

Now I've already seen these punks live which I never thought would happen. I used to love them when I was about 15 to 18. Seeing them play one of my favourite albums cover to cover was pretty special. It's probably the one show I can remember the least of, on par with Japandroids, and ever since then I barely venture down to the 'W' (or should that be the '=w=' section?) of my iTunes. If I do see them again I'd like it to be in the festival atmosphere where they churn out a bunch of their impossibly dumb and lowest common denominator-attracting numbers. Mixed in with the good'uns from the Matt Sharp days. Alas...
  1. My Name is Jonas
  2. Hash Pipe
  3. Dope Nose
  4. The World Has Turned and Left Me Here
  5. Undone - the Sweater Song

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is one of my favourite albums of all time, but for some terrible reason I've never listened to anything else by them. What are the next couple of albums you'd recommend?
That album, personally is my favourite by them. So to recommend one would be hard.
But I would say Lifted or The story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground is the next album I would suggest.

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is so far ahead of anything else they have done. Heard a new song last week from an upcoming album and it was comparable. Really looking forward to it.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse:

1) Hey Hey, My My (Out of the Black)
2) Down By the River
3) Powderfinger
4) Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
5) Pocohontas (solo acoustic)
6) Long May You Run (solo acoustic)
7) Lotta Love (solo acoustic)
8) The Losing End (When You're On)
9) Winterlong
10) Cinnamon Girl
11) F***in' Up
12) Cortez the Killer
13) Homegrown
14) Danger Bird
15) Like a Hurricane

16) Over & Over
17) Cowgirl in the Sand
18) Roll Another Number (For the Road)

Of course, with those songs picked, the show would run for 5 hours. Not that I'd complain.

Never been a fan of F****n' Up. I change my favourite Neil Young song every time I listen to him, so that set is pretty fantastic.

Funnily enough, either am I... however the 'Cinnamon Girl' > 'F***in Up' > 'Cortez the Killer' run was used heaps in Crazy Horse's 1996 tours and it killed. Gotta include it.

Bloc Party.
This was really tough to keep it to 18 tracks! Never been a fan of Intimacy so there's nothing from that era in here. Very skewed towards the Silent Alarm era but it is their best album by some margin. Enjoy.

1. So Here We Are
2. V.A.L.I.S.
3. Little Thoughts
4. Hunting for Witches
5. Positive Tension
6. Skeleton
7. Children of the Future

No 'The Prayer'? Brought me to tears seeing it live.

Okay, this is impossible to do. The old Bloc Party forum had a big thread on these dream setlists and I always struggled, I'd always work on a "general gig with common and plausible songs that'd be an absolute ruckus to be apart of," "a festival set," and a "total dream, Koko like set."
  1. Song for Clay
  2. So He Begins to Lie
  3. Hunting for Witches
  4. Waiting for the 7:18 …
  5. … Banquet
  6. Truth
  7. The Once and Future King
  8. Luno …
  9. … Plans
  10. On
  11. She's Hearing Voices
  12. The Prayer
  13. Positive Tension
  14. Like Eating Glass
  15. Pioneers
    -
  16. The Present
  17. This Modern Love
  18. Helicopter

So this was a bit hard. Helicopter the belter to end with, I don't like shows that don't go out without everyone pouring the rest of their energy into a fast number. Pioneers is the typical, traditional closer. The last five songs are banger central and I'd probably look for a substitute for She's Hearing Voices, but whatever, I haven't seen it live. Luno and Plans bleed well into one another and so I'd have that transition. I think Truth goes nicely into The Once and Future King, which keeps a bit of momentum, but yeah, I'd have the delayed guitars bleed into that four-to-the-floor drumbeat. I like Waiting for the 7:18 going into Banquet. Also, On has never been played live before. Dim the lights and make em blue and everyone'd have a moment.

The Present is beautiful. I'd have them do this long, live version. Why don't you come over?

This is impossible in 18 songs for me because I hate to neglect some other gems, but a good show is all about a good flow. The whole says more about the sum of its parts with an album and a good gig. So you need to know how to time things, how to pace yourself, how to keep the people going. This might.

Pretty cool idea for a thread. Some great set lists on here. Are there many Mogwai fans on BF?

Queens of the Stone Age

I figure the best thing about this is that I get to pick which QOTSA will be playing, so I choose:

Josh Homme: Vocals/Guitar
Nick Oliveri: Bass
Mark Lanegan: Vocals
Dave Grohl: Drums
Dean Fertita: Guitar/Keyboards

The show is a walkthrough of all of QOTSA's current discography. Ideally this would be an outdoor gig at an epic venue, something like Stonehenge.

Queens of the Stone Age
1. Regular John
2. Avon
3. How to Handle a Rope

Rated R
4. Feel Good Hit of the Summer
5. The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
6. Auto-Pilot

Songs for the Deaf
7. A Song for the Dead
8. Go with the Flow
9. God is on the Radio

Lullabies to Paralyze
10. ...In My Head
11. Little Sister
12. Everybody Knows that you are Insane

Era Vulgaris
13. 3's & 7's

...Like Clockwork
14. I Sat by the Ocean
15. My God is the Sun

Encore:
1. Monsters in the Parasol
2. I Wanna Make it Witchu
3. No One Knows

I would sell several non-essential organs to fund my way to this gig if it ever happened.
