THE RECRUIT is back, and it is on FOX8.

Out there, playing somewhere in Australia right now, is a weekend warrior the AFL recruiters have either never seen or missed, a man dreaming of an AFL career. He is ‘The Recruit’ and he will win arguably the biggest prize ever given away on a TV show – a
guaranteed place at an AFL club.

THE RECRUIT is a reality football entertainment series that will follow 12 ‘Recruits’ who will live and play together as a team, while at the same time competing against each other, in order to win this life-changing prize.

Fitzy and Vossy will be putting the 12 Recruits through their paces, both physically and mentally, in order to discover a player who is truly worthy of a place on an AFL team. The series will culminate in a live finale in which an unprecedented AFL Draft will be held, with the winner signing a contract with one AFL club.

The 10-part series will air on FOX8 from Wednesday, July 16, at 7.30pm with an encore screening on FOX FOOTY the following Wednesday at 5.30pm.

The winner gets sent to the Lions until they're homesick and go to another club (even if they're from Queensland)?

The cricket version was actually pretty good. Some of the boys were very talented.

I'll have a look

If they were going to do this, why didnt they do it while the suns and giants were setting up ? Would have been a better use of funds than folau and campaigner

how does it even work...has one club already given up a rookie spot??? I find that hard to believe!

There is something funny going on because when someone was questioned about it on the radio today (Voss?), was it a rookie contract or what, they just said it was an AFL contract and wouldn't give any more details.

It'll probably be a provisional contract. You aren't actually on the list.. but if you show enough around the club and in the seconds (thirds?), you have the chance of being drafted exclusively by that club.

I agree it's a bit of a wank, but I also have no doubt that there are plenty of guys out there playing in local leagues who are better players than the ones currently on AFL lists not getting a game.

Spoke to one club's recruiter who has canvassed all the participants and says there's nothing worthwhile at all. And apparently one kid from up north had to be expelled from the show for attending certain 'establishments' instead of turning up to training!
