Mega Thread The Big Roughy IS IN THE CLEAR!!

My mum just had a melanoma removed from her face. The procedure itself if fairly straightforward and was done under local anesthetic .
What is hard is the waiting to find out whether or not it has spread and thankfully for Mum it hadn't. Just makes wearing sunscreen at all times even when it's not sunny so important. All the best to Roughy for a positive outcome.

I hope it's early stage and Rough makes full recovery. Football is nothing compared to this.

I really hope they have caught this early. Can't say I like the Hawks all that much but Roughhead was an absolute gun and a great person to boot. No one has a bad word to say about him.

Had a boss years ago who had a melanoma that wasn't caught early and he passed a month after it was diagnosed!

Screw football ..... all the best roughy!

He's always been careful with the sun during pre-season training. Maybe he needs to pile on the cream during game day as well now?

Sad to hear, hoping it was all cut out last night and there's nothing more to it now than rest and recuperation. Fingers crossed for ya, Roughy!!

That's right - he's super careful and its even a running joke that he takes part in re easily getting sunburnt. Sux

Sorry to hear this. One of my favourite non-Crows.
I have had them cut and burnt off for over 30 years, and a few years ago a melanoma was discovered on my chest. It was non-carcinogenic, but the wait for the biopsy results was a strain. Get around him people. He will need support.

He needs a sun burn cream for his lips called 'sun Zappa'...I work outdoors and surf regularly.Best lip sun cream ever!!

Hopefully roughy doesn't need any follow up treatment.

By the sounds of things it's all positive and the big fella will be up and about in a few weeks. I'm positive in a good outcome for him! This has got me thinking about melanoma.. I have spots on my shoulders, nothing raised or anything but I really know F-all about the disease.

I have had a fair few removed (12 - more scars than Darth Vader) -- go to your local GP ask for a referral to a skin specialist and then book it in , very simple, and worth it for peace of mind.

Read the Fagan presser quotes on the clubs twitter. Sounds like he's just being given the time off from footy while he waits to hear back about the other tests that will hopefully clear him of any further issues. No suggestion that there is anything more to it but obviously while he's in this state of unknowing his head space doesn't need to be on footy.

Hopefully he gets good news back soon and he can get on with life and footy next week. Thoughts are with the big Rough.

My brother in law had a similar thing. it was removed then he had to wait 4 weeks for another test, then another 8 weeks after that before being cleared. Now he goes back once every 6 months for a test for the next 3 years....so my bet, if its all good with Rough, he will be back in 8-9 weeks.

Aaaah Roughy....you are going to be missed while you are off big fella.
Heres hoping all is well and you get a clean bill of health...cause I aint ready to watch the Hawks play without ya.
Rest up.....looking forward to your return already mate.
THE BIG ROUGH....ALWAYS HAWTHORN.

Get them checked... I've had a few spots myself and everything was fine, but you just never know.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I had them checked a few years back and the doc said no dramas.. Don't think they've changed, I've had them for years! Prob best to get checked again..
