Gresham has had his share of injury issues. Talented player but another injury prone HFF on that coin would have been a list management mistake.
Hayward is durable at the very least.
Thought he looked ok from the nose bleeds, liked his first half on the replay. Durdin's first half was one of the better halves he's played in some time. Did well as the high half forward, provided an option in transition and used it well.
Had grave concerns last year at his lack of composure...
Hollands as sub for mine. Could do with reduced load (had a full preseason and looks fatigued). Can come in and impact a game with his run late, has done it before as the sub. Prefer him to a small forward in that role, and Carroll more in need of a spell in the 2s.
If Cuners is fit, give him...
More than just being weak in the contest. He's a destabilising influence down back and is playing due to poor list management and an unfortunate suspension to Sam Durdin.
Poor in the contest, panics with ball in hand, bad positioning and loose checking. Used to be a solid interceptor but that...
With the depth of our injuries and the calibre of player available, it's not a question of who provides the most upside but who is least likely to be exploited.
At the moment, Young, Carroll and Ollie Hollands are obvious weak points for various reasons. Cowan, Corey Durdin and even Williams...
Shout out to Cottrell, who continues to improve his game. Genuinely becoming one of our best inside 50 kicks. That kick to Durdin was a bullet (pity he couldn't finish from straight in front).
Don't like to dwell on the umps, they're going to make mistakes, but their refusal to apply the rules as written today beggars belief.
They paid 24 free kicks for the game (league average is 38). Of those, maybe 2 holding the bl decisions were paid.
We rely heavily on front half pressure and...
Yep, excited for him to get a crack at it at some stage. Would imagine he'd be in excellent nick to go after an extended preseason due to the suspension.
Lacks the fitness to play with any sustained intensity at AFL level. Body's not developed. Add in fatigue and he'll be ragdolled.
Fantasia isn't doing much, but he doesn't do much wrong. Covers the ground well, applies pressure and makes things happen when he gets the ball. Needs to get (much)...
Newman brilliant today with the outs in the backline. Safe as houses when he has the ball in his hands, love him defensive side of the contest.
Cowan impressive, we've got a player here. Kemp growing by the week, could be anything.
My man Cotters, what a player he's becoming. Always adding to...
Cottrell brilliant. Covering ground as he always does, looking very dangerous with ball in hand and finding space.
Keeps adding to his game, one of my favourites.
Agree in general but unfair criticism of Hoyne. He's very consistent with his opinions and has always been vocal about the importance of the turnover game.
Absolutely. Been a frustration of mine for a few years. The threshold for a suspension has reduced dramatically to the point where players are being penalised for split second decisions in genuine football actions.
Whether there's a suspension cap (3+ games deems you ineligible), an offence...
Its not a question of maximising upside, but minimising downside. At least 2 goals kicked as a result of broken tackles (Fogarty early, Soligo in the build up to the Kemp/Williams debacle).
I watched the match again, and to his credit Hollands was tireless on the defensive wing. That chase down...
I think we forget how little footy Kemp has played. Only 27 games. Progressing very well and reckon by the end of the season the brain fades will be long behind him.
I've been a critic of Young's but looking composed with the footy. Not sure it'll translate to AFL level but doing himself no harm.
Cowan been great, might be between him and Cincotta.
