If evidence was needed that Stanley is of limited benefit against top-liners..

Disagree, he has shown more willingness than most to make the tough choices there.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2024, Part I

Poor Linc - I suspect that this will be his career done. Honestly, had a decent career, but for a better run with injury could have been exceptional.

If Dempsey misses, then Mannagh picked a good week to kick four.

They could. It wasn't the hardest game on earth and it's not like the extra 12 hours for the seniors makes all the difference.

Anyway... the early meat tray. Conway is a monty to go in for Stanley this week. Reports are that the coaching team was split on it last week; this week, after Conway was rested, it's an absolute must. O'Connor and Parfitt come back; Duncan goes for a rest, Bruhn to miss with injury? Mannagh...

But for an extra goal here or there in a Prelim final... honestly, they are harsh.

Autopsy Cats lose to Demons by 8 points

I should probably add - 2004 is the only year that I thought he actually looked comfortable and settled up forward. Before that, he could still certainly play, but he didn't have much "foward craft" as such - he relied a bit too much on the big mark and winning contests. It seemed to click in...

I'd suggest that if he doesn't have enough impact to justify his inclusion for 30 minutes, then he doesn't have enough to justify it for 120 either.

Yeah, they have made a pretty decent fist of it.

Very, very few players make a success of being a key forward at AFL level having come through as a ruckman, or in fact any other position. Ben Graham and Harry Taylor both had a go at it but with limited success IMO. They always looked a bit like square pegs in round holes.

I think it's reasonable to say that on current form, Hawkins isn't making the side better. I know that guys like Lingy talk up the value of Hawk as "occupying the best defender" and the like - but Lingy captained Hawkins, and played with him for five years and two flags. He has too much...

Everyone who gets drafted looks great in their highlight reel. Billie Smedts looked great in his highlight reel, so did Shane Kersten. Hell, even Cooper Whyte looked great in his draft reel. Draft reels, against other underage kids, don't tell much. Yes, he has potential. So does every single...

I actually thought Ruggles was hard done by. Had a decent season, then one shocker, had a good start to the next year, then got knocked out on Easter Monday and then never seen again.

Expansion National reserves competition in 2025. Are you in favour?

I think that, over the long term, it will really hurt the state leagues... simply through perception. Players, deep down, want a crack at AFL - especially those who are playing well at state level. That means that the allure of being in the reserves system affiliated with a top-level club, even...

I'm not saying that you're going early, but if you were in the bedroom, your wife would be very dissatisfied ;) The bloke hasn't even played a game for the VFL team yet!

Expansion National reserves competition in 2025. Are you in favour?

You’re right, life support was the wrong term. But perhaps the better way to say is that there was only going to be one winner

To somehow state that Chris Scott has a problem with managing a team's mental state following a close H&A loss to a good side, runs completely contrary to the fact that he has the best H&A record of any coach in history by such a large margin it's ridiculous. The two hardest things when it...

I completely agree, but I honestly am looking at Danger like he's one hammy away from popping the boots in a drawstring bag and bidding the AFL good night and good luck.

The season is a marathon so you take risks like that, rather than limping to the finish line. Bluntly put, going 18-5 guarantees us a top two place, going 17-6 makes it 50-50. We should be able to get to 11 and 4 from here with the draw that we have; I would rather continue to rest players when...

If you've got Oliver, Petracca and Viney in the middle, you don't need to win the hitouts. It just helps.

At the moment, we are more dependant on JC than I'd like. He's the one player without whom we cannot compete with the very best. The Dees can go without one of Gawn, Petracca or May. We can't go without JC.

FWIW, I did miss the game because I was at a mate's party. That said, I have always found Rohan a very difficult player, because "if he plays at his best" is such a lottery. I've only known four other players at Geelong to have such a massive gap between best and worst, and they are David...

I'm not conflating you with everyone else, but a lot of other posters were called Rohan the "perfect sub" in the lead up to this game because he was considered an impact player.

Who of the current side would get in a revised "Team of the Century"

There's one of the biggest conundrums of the Team of the Century - is it on the basis of who'd make the best 22, or on the basis of the biggest contribution to the side?
